Those teams don’t need help. They are talented as hell. Also, they had very few stars opt out. If you don’t think that the Hoosiers benefited from playing in empty stadiums on the road (Wisconsin/O$U) and teams that had stars opt out (Penn State/Michigan) I don’t know what to tell you. A highlight of the Hoosiers season was them coming back and making the final score respectable in the Horseshoe… And some 2021 preseason publications even had the gall to insinuate that Hoosiers were ascending and were a threat to Ohio State.

Impressive and definitely the Hoosiers' ceiling. Wins over Ball State, UConn and Eastern Illinois got them nearly halfway there. Which is why the Hoosiers should schedule 3 cupcakes annually.

Late 80's/early 90's you could watch about 3-4 college football games on TV every weekend in the midwest. Michigan, like Notre Dame was guaranteed to be on each week. Notre Dame bored me. Michigan had superior helmets/uniforms, a superior fight song, a superior stadium and Desmond Howard made one of the greatest catches in college football history that particular fall afternoon.

Fleck is the Big Ten West equivalent of Allen. Rah, Rah sideline guy with cool team mottos and one liners. I’m not sure Minnesota is even a top half of the Big Ten level outfit, let alone to 20 nationally. The boat is sinking.

Minnesota is NOT a top 20 program…not even close. Their RB got injured last season in the opener so Fleck (like O’Shea at the high school level) will be judged largely on this fall.

Speaking to point 5, has IU ever been “out of the abyss” for any substantial amount of time? Not an Allen guy by any means (I think he’s an attention seeking phony) but isn’t he just the latest guy to have marginal success in Bloomington and move on to a coordinator/assistant job elsewhere once canned?

The ends definitely don’t justify the means, particularly for those who are relatively healthy/under 60. And don’t even get me started on kids. Being cautious in the spring/summer/fall of 2020 was understandable at the time but from that point forward the only “science-based decisions” being made were those based in “political science.” (And I fear it’s about to happen again…but will not have the outcome desired.)
