Does anyone know why HHC games are scheduled in the same exact order every single year? I’m not talking about non-conference games. I’m aware each team has designated weeks for conference games. I’m just asking why, for example, I know year-in and year-out that Columbus East gets Seymour in week 3, Jennings County in week 4, New Albany in week 5, Floyd Central in week 6, Jeffersonville in week 8, and BNL in week 9. Why can’t it be switched up every year or every other year?

I would hate that as a coach.

My question would be... why would does it need to be?

Has this become the Nickname Hall of Fame 2.0?

Will religious leaders find problems with Red and Blue Devils of Lowell, Pike, Richmond, Tipton, and West Lafayette?  Even Pappy Gipper's Alma Mater was the Blue Devils before consolidating into South Newton and becoming the equally politically correct Rebels.

I wonder if PETA will show up in Oxford sometime this fall to protest BC's Bison.  They may also go after the Bronchos of Lafayette Jeff for the mere fact they can't properly spell it.  Safe schools would include the Hanover Central Wildcats, Lawrence Central Bears, Rushville Lions, and Seymour Owls,

The ancient worlds of Greece and Rome have been glorified, too as many schools have chosen Athenians, Spartans, Titans, and Trojans as their moniker.   The Pendleton Heights Arabians would probably be on PETA's list as opposed to that race of people who seem to hate everything.

Ahhh I'm glad you brought up PETA, excellent point... and in some cases, they put "fighting" in front of the mascot's name. So not only do they mock/make fun of animals, they want them to be dangerous! The horrors!

Different in my opinion. I'm not aware of the Catholic Church running assimilation schools (under the guise of missions) in Ireland the same way they did in North America and other places that contributed to the persecution of native people (culture, language, etc.). Plus, ND's mascot is the leprechaun (a fairy in Irish folklore) and not a depiction of a person from Ireland.  Indian mascots are often based on inaccurate, derogatory and/or stereotypical representations.

That's my soapbox for the day...

Redskins I'll give you. Perfectly fine with that getting removed, that was the only derogatory one. Braves/Indians mascots should never be removed... there is nothing derogatory there.

If so.... absolutely Irish, Quakers, etc need to be removed as they are just as offensive, as Braves/Indians are. Pendleton Heights? yeah you're giving your mascot name back too. Yankess+Texans, nope you gotta give yours up, as well. Cowboys.. you too. THE BOSTON CELTICS!! Can't have that.

But we do live in a society that found Aunt Jemima+Uncle Ben offensive lol ... Land O Lakes butter--- HELL NO!!! Crazy, soft times we live in.

Need to do something with "Cavemen". That triggers me a bit.

Same! And the Nebraska Cornhuskers!! don't get me started there. The Floyd Central Highlanders, Minnesota Vikings are a few that sticks in my crawl.

I don’t think so, although I’ll grant you it’s a very small marketplace (the NFL), so you can expect volatility.

How much is your house worth? It’s worth whatever someone will pay for it. That’s the very definition of “fair market value.” There is no objective standard against which a player’s “worth” can be determined. His value is determined by what someone will pay him for it.

I see no market here whatsoever. We are talking about talents, QBs, and real people, not inanimate objects. My house can't blow an ACL. My house doesn't insist you change everything about your franchise to make my talents work (even those talents will be up in about 3-4 years when father time catches up)

They massively overpaid for a guy that can't stay healthy. I find it hilarious, personally.

You never answered the question. Yes, they are basically the same deal. Bobref's comparison to the housing market makes it simple to understand. Also, when you say one employer only mention one employer instead of listing two employers because that contributes to his point about it being a "market value" situation.

I don't need to answer the question, we have Google. I said EMPLOYERS, and I mentioned two NFL teams, and no I don't buy his housing example whatsoever.

  6. 1 hour ago, Bobref said:

Correct me if I’m wrong, but that’s pretty much the deal he signed, isn’t it? You’re worth what the marketplace says you’re worth.

I mean, employers make horrendous mistakes all of the time lol... so yeah, you're wrong.

This isn't a market, this is one employer-- the Browns being absurdly stupid and then another team, the Ravens, doubling down on that.

See, that’s the kind of deal Lamar should have. Essentially a fully-guaranteed 3 yr. deal … at which point, he can do it all over again if he wants. And he probably will, the way the salary cap is going to go up.

    Lamar isn't worth half that.

I’m talking about other schools. Do you think any of the MIC schools cared about the TH schools when they were booted from the MIC. Do you think Madison was concerned about any of the HHC schools when they left? But I do think you’re demonstrating my point perfectly the HHC is an anomaly in that it’s more geographical than financial or competitive driven. But ultimately money don’t speak it swears.

It's really too bad East Central is so far from BNL.

Seymour, EC, BNL, CE, JC, Madison, etc. Idk just thinking outside the box.

There are numerous factors but the main one is burn out  I really think they should go back to closing the summers, weights only, open gyms, no practices. I also feel we have lost a lot of great coaches because of the time commitments. Kids and coaches need time to relax.  Kids need to be involved in all sports not just one. My first 20 years of teaching I coached 3 sports now entering my 34th year I only coach 1 it was a tough decision but the time it took was overwhelming.

    Have a great winter

As a coach, I hope we don't go back to the way we did it before. I hated that.

The bold is absolutely correct, but football isn't the issue.

I love these posts. It's nice to get to see names and expectations from a coaches point of view. Even during coach speak I enjoy seeing their POV and how they see kids shaping up. Makes me wish some of the WW coaches were back. Always want that insider info. Haha. But yes Salem 2 non conference are Valley and WW. Maybe they preparing to Juno for plac...🤣🤣🤣. J/K. Thanks again coach!

I enjoy talking ball. Thank you.

4 more months. Hope everyone provides some summer info to help burn the time. Wondering if WW will try to add North Daviees. Both now have week 6 open with Linton adding someone else. Makes too much sense to me. Same sectional. Played in the past regularly. ND was scheduled to be on road that week and we desperately need a home game.

I don't think Coach May will mind...

Brownstown will bring back 7 starters on offense and 8 on offense, but basically all of our "rotators" return, as well. We bring back 75-80% of the guys we played last year, essentially.

Offensively we lose Carson Darlage (6'5 215lbs QB), who the last two seasons combined--340 carries 2200 yards 34 TDs on the ground. The plan is for him to be replaced by Micah Sheffer, who will be a SO.

OL-- there will be some reshuffling in spots with the added depth from the JV guys moving up. Last season we replace 10 starters offensively, so there was a lot of newness with this group up front last year. We hope the experience and year in the weight room pay dividends. We expect to be better here and have more depth.

Off-skill-- everyone is back. Engle, Hutcheson, Zike, Tiemeyer, Garrison, Killey, and Fritz will all share the rock. Another group that was new last year and took some lumps, and we hope to see some strides because of it this season.

DL--- should be the strength of our team. Burcham-Jones+Branaman will be 3yr starters who have been excellent so far in their careers. Hutchinson started every game as a FR last season (6'5 280) and played well. We will add a player or two to these already-established 3 and I think we have a very solid top 7-8 guys here.

LBers--- we replace MLB with Owen Wischmeier, whose brother Eli, was a North/South All Star. Both OLBers are back--- Hutcheson+Killey who both had big games against Triton Central in the sectional.

DBs-- everyone is back and another position group we hope to have more depth at this season with some JV guys moving up/getting some guys back healthy.

Our kicker, Bryce Peak is back and will be a SR.

Last season is the youngest team I have coached while an asst at Brownstown. (2013) and I'm pretty sure it's the youngest team Coach May has had here. Last season we played 5 different FR on one side of the ball (at times), along with playing 5 SOs, regularly.... couple that with a whole JR class (besides 2) that did not see the varsity field as SOs 2 years ago... it was interesting at times lol

I would say this group has the potential to be good, but doing it and saying it are two different things. As always, super excited to get to work with the dudes later this month and we hope to hit the ground running with the experience we bring back.

According to Harrells looks like Salem/Springs Valley is gonna be a series. Added to week 5.

Also so far only week 6 opening I can see happening for WW is Washington. We played there couple years ago then they cancelled. Maybe they can return the trip. We need the home game that's for sure.

So.. Salem's two Non conf are WW and SV?

The city needs projects like this to prevent further drain on talent.  If it follow's Muda's plan it will become little more than a wasteland in no time flat.  I'm glad my tax dollars are being used for something positive for a change.

    Great post. Growth is good.

Soccer sucks, but growth is good. I'd love an MLB team, but maybe MLS is a more realistic option?

  14. Now.... having said that... If you move Pekin to the PLAC----

PLAC- Pekin, WW, CC, PC, SV, Mitchell, Paoli

MSC- BC, SC, CT, Salem, NH, CC, SB

And based on the conference games you play a intra-conference championship week 8 or 9. I think that would be pretty cool. Example-- if you win the MSC, you play the winner of the PLAC. But, that could cause teams to play twice.... (maybe you make that a caveat, you can't play someone twice?) Idk. Thinking outside the box.

  15. 10 minutes ago, JQWL said:

They could still play each other.

Each conference would have 7 members which would allow for 3 non-conference games in football. Basketball is easy to schedule. With Salem getting smaller, it might be a good fit.

We are still both within like 25 students of each other and I think we are still smaller?

I'm not really seeing the reason for conference realignment. I thought the MSC voted not to add Madison or said they didn't have interest in it. I like our schedule quite a bit, right now. We have basically the same conference now that you have drawn up, except switch Madison and Salem, then we play Seymour+Madison as our two out of conference games.
