New Prairie comes off winning their 2nd game. The Cougars do not have the athletes to stay with Penn. Adams at Riley - The other city rivalry game as Adams beat Washington Friday. Riley played well against St. Joe. Their defense played hard. The offense struggled St. Joe at Washington - Many years this game filled School Field. The Panthers are struggling with numbers and managed no offensive TD's against Adams. St, Joe offense struggled against Riley.

While the fans would like to see better competition for Penn, what are the thoughts/feelings of the administration/schoolboard?

St. Joe 21 Riley 6 Uninspired effort by the SJ offense Too many motion and holding penalties Riley had a couple of chances but could not convert until late in the game whe SJ faked a punt from their won 15 and did not make the first Riley D played very well. Took SJ out of some things they have done through the year The kind of game I expected after the Elkhart game. Now on to Washington to clean up a few things before the last game of the season Not surprised by the Penn score. Lot of hype about Elkhart but not producing

I doubt that the NIC would ask them to leave. I wonder if going independent in football would be a possible solution then who do you play. With Carmel and Center Grove back in the MIC not many odd team conferences. Just seems like a no-win situation right now. The NLC I do not think wants to change. The Duneland not sure but they seem to cover Northwest Indiana.

A city rivalry game. Hunch with the Panthers Riley and St Joe at Fr. Bly field. SJ comes off their first win over a 6A school after beating Elkhart. They need to come to play to keep their season going. Riley lost to New Prairie in a high scoring battle. SJ defense could determine this game. Penn goes to Elkhart. Both teams have good QB's, 2 explosive wide outs that can be game can be game changers, plus a good RB. Turn overs may be a key to this game. SJ sacked the Elkhart QB 13 times last Friday night so how will the Elkhart line handle the Penn D. Two good teams could be shoot out or could be a shootout. Should be another great game at Rice Field.

What a game 21-14 St Joe over Elkhart. The Huskies D played well. Bent a little did not break. They sacked their QB I think 12 times. Elkhart has athletes. # 3 impressed me. Kept Bardo in check. Did just enough to win. 6-0 for the first time since 1995. #3 for Elkhart is an athlete as well.

This will be a good test for St. Joe as their games so far have been against weaker competition. Elkhart st time seems to play good enough to win. They have a big game with Penn next week, but they cannot afford to look ahead. Looking for a large crowd Fridat at Rice Field. Penn should have the game with Adams into the running clock mode. Contain the running back, you take their offence. Riley continues to look like the 4th best team in the NIC. They should be able to handle NP, if they can contain their QB. Marian/Washington both looking for a win. The Knights can win this if they do no let the Washington WR beat them

Last week when we played New Prairie I spoke with someone who said the talent on the lower end was down coming in. I asked if that was why the coach left? He just smiled and said he got paid more money. I know a couple of kids transferred to Laporte when an assistant coach who wanted the head coach did not get the job. As for St. Joe, the defense has impressed me. Marian had one drive all night. granted Marian lost their skilled people but they said the strength of their teams was the lines, which I was like if that is the strength then this team is team is down some. The Huskies have to stay focused, stay healthy and play within their game. They had over 100 yards in penalties Friday and that has to stop. If they focus on this week and Adams and take care of business a big match up in Elkhart the following week. Is Elkhart playing down to the level of their competition? Just seems like they are.

I wonder if the hospital did any blood work or other work to make sure what caused it all

Looks like Penn is the real deal in the NIC this year - how far after that TBD Is Elkhart as good as people think? Will they get better on Offense once the transfer can play. Was surprised how young New Prairie is. You do not notice those things until they take a step or two back. Also heard a couple of kids transferred to Laporte. I did notice that they are not as big as they have been, maybe the youth. The Robinson kid is an athlete. Transition years can be tough. SJ and Marian battle for what could be the third best team. Expect this to be the usual emotional game to start and see where it lands. WHS has the good receiver and a kid who can throw it. See if it holds up or was Elkhart playing down to the competition. WHS has no frosh team, so their roster is their complete program. Adams and Riley I never try to peg. See how the season plays out

A new season of NIC football begins. Here are the week 1 games to ponder Friday, Aug. 22 Concord at Elkhart, 7 pm Culver Academy at Adams, 7 pm Lakeland at St. Joseph, 7 pm Marian at Mishawaka, 7 pm New Prairie at LaPorte, 8 pm Penn at Valparaiso, 7:30 pm Riley at Bishop Noll, 8 pm Washington at Hammond Central, 7:30 pm

It is like the NIC is a 3-tiered conference. Top 2, middle 3, bottom 3. Sad it is not more competitive. With the new transfer rule surprised more is not being said about transfers. Then again, maybe keeping it under wraps until the scrimmage so other teams may not notice.

Well, practice will be starting and what are your thoughts about the NIC? Seems Elkhart is doing everything it can to unseat Penn. They got a transfer QB from Northwood and the WR from Penn. Plus, they got a couple of outstanding D lineman. Penn got the Hurley kid from SJ (not sure Penn will throw the ball as much as SJ does) and hear the had a transfer qb FROM mICHIGAN. Seems like those 2 at the top New Prairie, St. Joe, Marian the middle three The three SB schools appear to be at the lower level. Any significant transfers or kids moving in that could affect a program?

What is changing that one SB school could be the home for the best players?
