They paid the Middies with the whole second half today!  Watching Navy football is tedious!

Watching the academies play football is a trip back in time.  True vintage football.  The triple option/veer they run in absolutely classic football.

Warsaw went 7-2 and didn't beat a soul. They were pummeled by the two hardest toughest teams they played. Warsaw played the second easiest schedule of any 6A team in the state and didn't face a single 6A team the entire regular season. They made it to the sectional final by virtue of playing of playing another team who also wouldn't have qualified under my proposal. In a single elimination format, mathematically somebody had to win that game.

Yet they played a final 4 team in the sectional final (Carroll) and they were only down 13-10 at halftime, and 20-10 at the end of the Q3.  They lost to Carroll 34-17, but absolutely played them more than respectively and competitively.  Warsaw more than represented in the sectional final and that performance illustrated through their play on the field that they belonged in that game.

Warsaw beat a fellow bottom half Sagarin rated team (Elkhart) to advance to the sectional final due to a flaw in the current postseason format that doesn’t reward regular season success. Neither should have been in the tournament to begin with under my proposal and in any format that recognizes regular season success would have faced Penn or Carroll in the opening round.

and it illustrates why I think you proposal has serious flaws.  Warsaw was 7-2 and wouldn't have qualified under your proposal.  They won their first game of the sectional and was respectable in their loss in the sectional final to Carroll.  They finished the season 8-3, playing 2 post season games, including a secional final.

We shall agree to disagree that eliminating teams like Warsaw makes Indiana high school football a better experience.

How many sectional finalist advanced by beating top half rated teams? If you’re referring to Pike Central, somebody out of that quadrant had to make the sectional finals given the nature of how a single elimination tournament works. Pike Central was the winner of this flawed system in this specific scenario.

Wasn't Warsaw a sectional finalist as well? Lost to Carroll I believe.  Earlier, I showed you using Sagarin, they would not have made your top 50% in 6A.

There’s nothing wrong with the thread title. Monrovia was the only sectional champ to be ranked outside the top half of Sagarin.

Props to Monrovia for continuing to strap it up and overcome

Funny how you’ve been provided examples of “extreme outliers” both this year and the past….and yet you ignore them.

So a team must be a sectional champ to get your acknowledgment?  Sectional finalist this year doesn’t count?

Observations on the first half of Saturday's first presser:

    1. Dude has obviously been in the media for a while because he know how to win that room

    2. The above said, I still liked what he said and specifically his "energy," which is a little cliché, but still matters

    3. This presser, coupled with Buckner's comments about loving his honesty, should make Colts fans feel a little better about life (and I do mean a little).

In short, it was about as good as you could expect. Let's see what the man can do, probably not much, but stranger things have happened. Unfortunately, they are at that weird spot where winning now may mean losing long term...

    Good thoughts....

I don't expect any miracles...bottom line, Colts don't have a QB or a LT.  Those are huge gaps in a QB driven league.  If Saturday can figure out the issues with the Oline and they improve, that helps....but he will need to do this with an unproven rookie 3rd round pick at LT.  He also has an inexperienced QB....although I did see Matt Ryan practicing again.  Not sure what that means.

    I don't care who's coaching...they have holes....big ones.

I laugh at some of these posts who would lift after a football game? You need to rest and recover I can’t believe the ignorance of some of these coaches, but then again alot of them don’t have formal training in health and nutrition.

I can't speak for all schools, but I know the knowledge of the CG staff to include their strength and conditioning coach/expert. I trust them completely.

Lifting on open Saturdays doesn't always mean following a game the night prior.  Days after the game will be time spent studying video, time in the pool, supporting the JV and freshman teams playing, etc.

No, just a realist.  Schools like Indiana State play the likes of Tennessee and Purdue for the big paycheck.  Just wondering if such a deal exists between ND and the Naval Academy.

Navy is a FBS school, playing in the AAC.  They are not a FCS school like ISU or a FBS MAC type school.  ND also plays at Navy, in which the game is usually hosted in Baltimore to accommodate a larger crowd.  I believe that is the case this year. Next year, the 2 teams meet in Dublin, Ireland and I believe that has happened before.  There will be no payout to Navy.

I read or saw the theory somewhere @Bash Riprock that Irsay is merely looking for a bluntly honest assessment of where the organization stands and feels that Saturday gives him the best chance at that.  Not sure I buy it, but that was an interesting thought at the very least.  It does seem odd that, according to reports, Saturday was not interested in coaching the O-line as recent as 2019 but now suddenly takes the head job, albeit on an interim basis.  That makes me at least consider the idea of him as merely a "fly on the wall" for Irsay, but I also think it is more of a PR stunt than anything else by an owner who knows he is going to start from scratch this offseason with his coaching staff at the very least, if not the front office.

At this point, there are only two conceivable outcomes: either A) Saturday provides a fresh voice and sparks some life into this roster or B) Saturday's hire causes toxic division within the coaching staff and locker room and the season tailspins into a death spiral leading to a complete reconfiguration of the front office, coaching staff, and roster.  I am hoping against hope for option A, but my gut says we are looking at option B.

    Some great thoughts.....

I just have to wonder if it is already toxic in the clubhouse.  Hines could not wait to leave.  Watching and listening to Ballard in the press conference, I am sorry to offend his followers, but he comes off a like a total arse....which is interesting given he hasn't accomplished a darn thing.  If he thinks the media is tough in Indy, he has no business even thinking about taking a job in a larger market, especially on the east coast.  I am not sure what Irsay sees in him.  Polian could certainly act like an arse, but at least he had strong credentials with a proven track record of success everywhere he went.  (Buffalo, Carolina and Indy)  Ballard doesn't even seem to recognize that the formula for success in today's NFL is a QB and LT to protect said QB.

  10. I can't help from wondering if this is more than an audition for Saturday.  Heck, I don't want them to win now.  Get that draft pick and a young QB.

Irsay trusts Saturday...I wonder if he is assessing the entire organization, including Ballard.  I think Saturday could end up with his job......

This is the move that puzzles me.  It seems like Mr. Irsay and Mr. Saturday are best buddies..........................

I know this in unrelated, but Muda, you may have one of the best profile pics on GID of all time....certainly in the top 5!

It's way too late, but it had to be done.  Yesterday was historically bad!

Next up. Ballard?  Probably not now.

Reich fired OC previous week and Colts fired Reich this week.  Wonder who's calling the plays in 6 days against the Raiders?

  13. After a "meh" showing at Northwestern, I believe Ohio State will lay down the boom against IU on Sat.  Stroud needs some stats for both the Heisman race and draft pick status.  This is a game that could hurt OSU more than help them if they don't administer a total and complete smackdown, playing the 2 Big 10 cellar teams in back to back weeks.

Most likely IU throwing out a sacrifical lamb at QB with a horrific OL against the Bucks.  Guessing Caden Curry will see plenty of snaps, unless redshirt impact. (if that is an issue)

Consider the possibility that coaches and players have too great an interest in the status quo to look at the issue objectively.

That's one way to attempt to discredit a view that differs than yours.  Attempt to place motive.....

So let's just eliminate anyone that is currently involved with state high school football.....because you have no driving interest, right??  I know, I know...its all about the "pride factor" you desire for the kids.....

Not sure whether to belly laugh or just shake my head.  Maybe both!!!

its even worse:  look at what Colts did in this 2019 Draft, they are paying for it now, as they say, 3 years post draft is when you see who really did well and who didn't.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2019_NFL_Draft

Look at who they drafted in the 2nd round...... who they passed up, I know draft is hard not an exact science, but my goodness.

What are you talking about Coach?  Besides McLaurin, who in the world is Deebo Samuel, DK Metcalf, and AJ Brown????  Bunch of no ones!!!

Ya-Sin!  Ya-Sin!!  Ballard is a genius!!!!  He says so!!

  16. Did anyone see the Ball State vs Kent State game on ESPNU last night?  Carson Steele, the soph running back for the Cardinals rushed for 192 yds last night in their victory, snapping a 12 game home winning streak for the Flashes.  Steele became the 8th RB in FBS to surpass the 1000 yd rushing mark this season.  Way to go Warhorse!!

Somehow, Tom Allen couldn't use Indiana's Mr. Football, gorwing up and playing only 30 miles away from campus.  SMH

Favorable or not that's still a gauntlet, would much rather be in the northern half of the bracket at this juncture. However, Brownsburg does have the horses to navigate it.

It has been that way now for several years....south always seems to be a gauntlet, now adding Cathedral to the mix.  But I agree BB has the horses and having homefield is a big deal.  Their decisive win against BD in the sectional game 1 was an absolute eye opener.

Eagles are running away with the NFC with 7 wins now. While the Vikings are right behind at 6-1. Game 1 was a game Green Bay could have won, and we see how bad they are. I am just not sold on them yet. They lead a bad division, something that Green Bay was able to do often. There are still 6 teams with 3 wins in the NFC, and 2 more with fewer wins. There were 11 teams 2 weeks ago with 3 wins, so only 5 teams have moved off of that lol. What is funny to see is that the Commanders are in last in their division at 4-4 and Atlanta is 1st in their division at 4-4 lol. The Niners are the only other 4 win team in the NFC.

Washington deserves last place if nothing else for their new horrible team name.  The USFL would have even rejected that one......

Is it cyclical though? Carmel had two B10 commits plus a few MAC/G5 caliber players. Not sure talent was/has been the issue for Carmel.

Attitude, toughness, etc or in this case lack thereof, is generally what I'm hearing has been an issue for Carmel these last few years. Does seem like a culture problem much more than a coaching/talent issue. John Herbert just didn't forget how to coach overnight.

Carmel is a head scratcher this year.  I agree with your talent comment for their roster.  They beat Detroit Cass, Ben Davis, and held an explosive LC offense to 7 points the last regular season game in that victory.  The game against CG came down to the wire.  Just not sure what happened in the Westfield game.  They were not beaten that soundly all season long.  It seems like they were simply not ready to play against Westfield.

Not related to this season, but I am hearing their youth football numbers are considerably down.....can anyone confirm?  That is not a good sign for the future if true, although I know they get a ton of move-ins.
