Getting an MBA from IU is a big deal, especially in the time he had to do it. Best of luck Jack.

Good for him....what a job on and off the field.  This young man is impressive.  Will never forget the job he did leading IU into Madison a couple of years ago and got the W over the Badgers.  Hope he lands somewhere where he gets the shot to play.  He deserves it!!

Correct, not sure who else gave him scholarship offers other than Navy

Looks like Valpo and Hanover...that is what 247 listed.  How does a 3 star not get more offers??  With an offer from Navy, the young man had to be pretty darn good in the classroom.

Looks like a Purdue walk-on.  What a grab for the Boilers!

Who's decision was it to move McCulley from QB to WR?

Purdue is all over O'Neil as well as about every school around the midwest, talented kid.

New OC at Washington really putting up some numbers

    Is Spegal getting any traction?

    I haven’t seen Spegal this season…

CG’s JV guys were getting ready to warm up before that goal line stand by Cathedral. Went from possibly being 36-13 to the wheels falling off!

Credit to Cathedral’s kids for never quitting! Great win for them and a demoralizing loss for CG!!

Demoralizing?? Lol. The Trojans will be just fine.  Coach Moore and his staff will use the extra week to get them ready. They will learn from it.

Sometimes, you just tip your hat to the other team and just go lace ‘em up again.

That's peanuts for you IU fans, right?  Also, Penix is gone, and the Hoosiers had no one competent to replace him.  Maybe they should be taking a look at the Cathedral QB.

It’s the highest buyout in the Big 10.  Wisconsin’s buyout of Chryst was $10M. IU football constantly is a head scratcher

They should be all over O’Neil. Every time I see Carson Steele rush over 100 yds in a game for Ball State, I just shake my head that he couldn’t compete with IU’s backs…ru kidding me?  Yesterday Steele had 179 yds and 3 TD’s

  7. Meanwhile, Michael Penix broke UW record with a 516 yd passing game and 4 TD’s in victory over Arizona…..

Yeah, Tom is gone at the end of the season, imo.  There's just not much talent down there.  The QB position is a prime example.

    I don’t think so with a $30 million buyout….

What you fail to point out is that EVERY sport in Indiana qualifies for the playoffs, volleyball, basketball, football, softball, cross country, tennis, etc… Yet, you want football to be different because that is what you want… Makes perfect sense…😂

I kept stating this is less of a football issue and more of an IHSAA issue for all sports…..crickets

Can't wait for the re-match next month.  And for the sake of the good rivalry I hope both teams keep this regular season game on the schedule for years to come!

Hope both teams do have the opportunity to meet up again this season. It has been a tremendous series. My guess is being independents, they will play for some years to come.

Tip of the hat to the Irish…heck of a comeback. A few key plays made the difference in the 4th quarter, and Cathedral made them.

4th game this year CG has given up more than 320 passing yards. They came out with the win in the previous 3 games but not this one. CG will likely have 3 weeks to figure something out. CG Opponent passing yds. Lost: 351 Cathedral - Won: 273 Warren Central, 324 Carmel, 326 BD, 348 LC, 245 LN

Not disagreeing, but got to give Cathedral tons of credit. Their pitching and catching combination is pretty darn special.

Why does every other state, sans 1 or 2 others, have a qualification format? Where does the entitlement to playing a “tenth” game come into play? High school football is a privilege not a right, why shouldn’t a postseason birth be earned?

Meaningless in the sense that regular season game outcomes have zero direct effect on the postseason.

Maybe I missed it...so if we cut 6A from 32 to 16 teams per your proposal to qualify for post season play....how does this help the kids? (both players and the student body)  Coaching staffs? I understand it makes it more exciting for you.

    Honest question....

Like most good ideas, different people like and dislike it for different reasons. But it does address the idea, heard often in these pages, that a qualification format would result in teams eliminated from post-season play “giving up” in their remaining games because they “have nothing to play for.”

One thing is for sure...like death and taxes, it is a certainty that this topic will be hashed and rehashed on at least an annual basis on this forum....

I will continue to say that this is bigger than football with the IHSAA.  Bottom line, there is zero driver to take a game away from kids, expect for the appeal to a segment of the fan base.  And I don't see that being a big enough reason to change.  Compound the issue with the past qualifier system in this state being not being considered as a success....far from it.

Seeding...that has a much higher probability in my opinion.

But hey, lets debate it each and every year.....quite the exercise.

What I was saying, is that if you go to any other sport at any level (high school, college, professional outside of IHSAA) you will never find another postseason format that just blindly disregards the regular season. Hell we used to have to qualify for the postseason back in CYO days.

Not disagreeing with your statement....only saying that the mindset of the IHSAA for all-in, blind draws isn't limited to football.  It would require step change thinking across the board, rather than isolating for one sport.

Indiana high school football also used to have a qualifier for post-season play.  Back when there was only 3 classes I believe.  I remember those days well and remember 7-2 teams that did not accumulate enough points to qualify.  Perhaps that mistake years ago is why changing it back today is so difficult.  I am not sure.

Personally, for what its worth, I don't believe cutting a 32 team state tournament down to 16 teams is progress.  I do align with seeding, and believe if being creative the tournament could be structured to give out bye's to conference winners, top voted 8, etc.  I think it can be improved to make the regular season worth something, without eliminating teams, and teams from those classes that are already pretty small.  But, hey, its only an opinion.  Not arguing that I am correct.

    For every IHSAA member school.

Show me another postseason format in any sport at any level where your regular season record doesn’t determine your seed/draw/opponent come postseason. A team in Indiana could theoretically not play a single regular season game and still compete in the postseason. It’s madness, make it make sense.

isnt this the case with most IHSAA sports??  Blind draws, all in?  Isn't this discussion really bigger than football?

Why is that so hard to believe? CG and WC were tight all the way to the 4th quarter and wo Keith Jackson who has shown to be the difference maker when playing QB. WC just beat Carmel 20-13. CG and Carmel was 31-27. It isn't out of the realm of possibility. I will say this as I have said before WC is their own worst enemy, but if they can play up to the talent that they have on their team then there isn't anyone in the state they can't beat (well maybe except New Pal, LOL).

I agree its a whole new season in the playoffs and BOTH teams are different from games 1 and 2.  (CG and Carmel played game 2)

CG lost their all state running back for the season in the first quarter against Warren and the Trojan QB was making his first varsity start, yet they were able to overcome. CG is a very different from the team that opened the season against WC.  BTW, I was there for their game...it wasn't quite the nail biter that you describe.  While the margin wasn't huge, the WC offense struggled mightily...perhaps because of the QB play you mentioned.

NEITHER team is the team that played each other in game 1.  That being said, I do agree that when these two teams play, either team could come out on top...especially in the playoffs.  Both teams will be ready to play.  (assuming they are both sectional champs....and that's not a given)

As good of a quarterback as Bryson Luter is, I think freshman Terry Walker III is even better. Over the summer, he competed in a national competition for freshman quarterbacks and finished in the top 4.  Next summer I expect him to start receiving power 5 offers as he visits different camps and colleges.

Walker III sure impressed me in the CG game.  He came off the bench and started making plays instantly. (both passing and running)  And to think he is only a freshman.  He has all the tools to be really special.

That is true. Sagarin is different each and every year.

For point of reference this year, 1-7 Avon who has played the toughest schedule in the state sits just outside the top 16 at 18. Have an outside chance of playing their way in Friday.

    interesting data....

With Sagarin, certainly helps to be in a strong conference with quality non-conference games.  May get tougher for independents...
