Week Six - Involving Hoosier North Athletic Conference Teams!

What say you for this week?

    Friday, Sep. 22
Caston at North White, 7 pm
Culver at Winamac ©, 7 pm
Knox at LaVille ©, 7:30 pm
South Central at North Judson, 8 pm
Triton at Pioneer ©, 7 pm

as always, the game is better

    from_the_sidelines007

I'll take Caston in the first one

I'll take Winamac in the second one

I'm going with Knox over Laville. The Lancers escaped with one last year over Knox. Not gonna happen this year. The honeymoon phase for the Lancers is over. Time to face some higher quality opponents.

    North Judson over South Central

The last one I've gone back and forth with like crazy. Every time I watch Pioneer I feel liked they are improved from last year, but just not impressed with them. I say this and they just keep winning so what do I know. I'm gonna go with Triton but if you asked me 100 times it would be Triton 51 and Pioneer 49. If I were a gambling man I'd stay away from the moneyline and probably take the over in this game.

Agree... still seems like alotta the the same suspects... tho not as strong... the Zebras and Knights appear to on a collision course again... not sure... but think a Zebra win puts Lcc in 1A??

Yes, only way LCC would stay up with a Zebra win would be enrollment. I feel like someone has said LCC is approaching that 1A and 2A enrollment line, but could have misread.

MY "OH MY" Teams of the week are all the teams in the Hoosier Conf., except Hamilton Heights and West Lafayette.  When WL lost to Harrison 42-6, it looked like WL might not be as great this year as they were in past years..  It looks like you don't have to be that good to beat most of the teams in the Hoosier Conf.  There used to be a lot of good teams,  like Tipton and Rensselaer, in the Hoosier.  Tipton had not scored a point the last two weeks and LCC has only scored 7 points the last two weeks. WL has beaten LCC the last 7 years.  WL only beat LCC 37-7 this year.  That is one point better than last year when WL won 52-21.  Rensselaer, Benton Central and Tipton, OH MY!

It feels like a down year for a lot of teams across the state. I've been paying attention to a lot of teams in the northern part of the state for 2A. Feels more wide open than it ever has. Other than Chatard in 3A, 1A and 3A feel kind of feel the same way. Could make for a great first couple of rounds of sectionals to start the playoffs. Hard to believe we're already on the back half of the regular season after this week. The years keep going by faster and faster.

If Laville can incorporate Plummer more into their run game I believe that would make them a pretty dangerous team come Oct and Nov.  Defense is fairly solid and Kicking game is already top notch.  Cannot stress enough how important it is to make high school teams drive the length of the field repeatedly.  Very tough to do.

I would agree. Kids a stud. Probably making sure he stays healthy until playoff time. We saw what happened last year when he went down. Other kid did way better than I expected, but replacing what Plummer does can't be done.

Just going by my own eye test folks.  LaVille barely squeaked past Bremen and Triton and neither of those teams are at the top of their classes.  They just don't have that impressive win yet.  The next three weeks will tell the tale.  Right now I would see the Lancers beating Glenn, but probably not Knox or NJ.  Even then, they would still have a good shot at a sectional title if they can get past Andrean, who appears to be down a bit this year.

Triton is solid with Shively playing, but not a top 10 in 1A yet.  They'll need to beat Pioneer and compete with Knox and NJ for me to put them higher than about 15 in 1A.  And unless they beat Pioneer they'll end up the bottom half of the conference.

With a win this week Pioneer moves up in my mind, and that speaks well for LaVille too.  North Judson is definitely a top 10 1A team and I think they should win out and probably win the regional again this year.  We'll see if Triton has anything to say about that.  I hope so, but I'm skeptical.

As I've said before, I think Knox runs the table and wins conference.  But their sectional has too many good programs in it.  I don't see them bringing home the hardware this year, although they are capable!

Just my own thoughts midway through the season.  Don't take me too seriously!  I certainly don't!!  Just throwing out some comments for discussion.  That's what this place is all about, isn't it?

I agree with everything said here. The HNAC is more competitive as far as conference matchups go this year, but I don't think the teams are as strong as they were last year if that makes sense.

Yeah, those pollsters don't know what they are doing.

I guess they put up teams on the board and throw darts! lol

Kind of like the ping-pong balls come state tournament draw time, huh?

It honestly feels like that at times. I think 2A is down this year so Laville is definitely a top 10 team in my opinion, but 3rd is questionable for sure. Sagarin(I know it has flaws early in the season) has them at 13th. We will see what they are truly made of in the back half of the season with the opponents coming up. Win out and 3rd in the polls doesn't get questioned. But with the quality of opponents they have had so far this year, not convinced yet.

This is possibly the most uninformed post I have ever read on GID in the past 10 years.

It makes some pretty silly assumptions:

    1.  Folks complaining about the system don't come from programs with all the "Factors".  Admin, quality coaching staffs, facilities, school pride, youth and feeder programs.  These aren't things that are unique to publics or private schools.

    2. Folks complaining about the system haven't put in the sweat equity over decades that the privates have because they are just lazy complainers.

    3. Folks complaining about the systems are former Al Bundy's or keyboard warriors.

    4. Just accept the crappy system and work harder....cuz that's what the Catholics do.

It's simple and I have highlighted it in detail multiple times, anyone who doesn't breath with their mouth open understands the issue.  Those who line their trophy cases as a result of an inequitable system will continue to choose to burry their heads in the sand.

Now really focus on this paragraph and use that private school reading comprehension on this part:

All things being equal with regard to "Factors", the student population homogeneity with regards to dead weight students is significantly different between even the least poor of publics and the average successful private.  Dead weight students being defined as those who are just there because the law says they have to be or only take a minimalist approach in meeting graduation requirements or participating in extracurriculars.

Congratulations on moving to Indianapolis and buying your child some rings.

Go easy on the guy, he's just a dad.

Id suggest the public schools start emulating what these schools do in their feeder systems.  Stop de-emphasizing football, active recruit from “within your own hallways” sell the program to kids at all ages and especially early on and don’t expect State Titles immediately.  Give it 2-3 years and make the goals in years 1 and 2 more attainable than a State Title.
You’re complaining about others success through hard work is sickening.  You told (or someone on the same page as you) said Mebuck offended a ton of people.  Well you offended me and at least as many as you’re claiming Me buck offended.  Why should everyone else in the State lay down and not succeed for your benefit?   I realize some schools have more resources and if that’s what you’re basing success on, make it the haves and the have not leagues combined with it being based on size.  Don’t like that idea? Then learn to build something to believe in and win because YOU worked and over came the odds as opposed to tearing everyone else down so YOU can win.
If we used your logic, why are we stopping at the fairness of facilities?  Why not penalize highly athletic and talented players by only letting them play in 6A or 2 quarters?  Or if you have a great arm, you can’t play QB?
if they idea sounds stupid, I agree with you, welcome to the common sense club.  If you like the idea, I hope you grow a pair and learn to fight no matter the odds and quit complaining about others being successful.

Isn't this what the publics are, unintentionally, doing for the privates right now?

Why can't anyone answer the ELEPHANT in the room ...if all this went down the way the article portrays (smashed mailbox, inappropriate texts, clashing with Head Coach, etc...) - WHY ON EARTH WOULD IC NOT sign off on the transfer and just be done with the whole situation???

It makes absolutely no sense ...something doesn't add up

You can only add if you have like terms. As @Donnie Baker would say STATE LAW! and also an Indiana State Standard

If the player wasn't kicked off the team and he has to play to get an offer to go to college and he isn't listed on the Indian Creek Maxpreps roster, I'm gonna go out on a limb and say someone on the family side or the coaching side is lying. Why wouldn't the player just want to come back and play with his buddies if the coach showed nothing but love for his athletes? Why is the player so adamant about playing football, but won't for Indian Creek? Something isn't adding up regardless of who wrote the article.

  11. Quick question on Pioneer. Saw their offensive and defensive line is very young, made up of a lot of sophomores and a junior or two if I'm correct. Do they have any good young skilled position guys tho? QB is a sophomore too I think, but from what I've seen the two work horses in the backfield are both seniors. Do they have some young guys that will be ready to go when those young lineman start to really dominate as seniors?

  12. Central Catholic @ Hamilton Heights

    Northwestern @ Benton Central

    Rensselaer @ Western

    Twin Lakes @ Tippecanoe Valley

    West Lafayette @ Tipton

    North Newton @ Lake Station

    Merrillville @ Crown Point

    Pioneer @ LaVille

    Louisville Trinity @ Center Grove

    Lewis Cass @ Peru

  13. Benton Centrals at Seegers - Only game of interest to me because of sectional reasons. Seeger has a non-existent offense from what I watched. The front line has to make major improvements if they want to look close to as good as the team from last year. Defense showed some heart against LCC but Benton Central is much improved from last year. Give me the Bison by a touchdown or two.

  14. Week 2 games, gonna be some good ones this week. Strong showing by the conference last week with Whitko snapping a 15 game losing streak versus a non conference opponent and Peru beating Logansport as well. Two conference games this week with a lot of non conference to go with it. I'll take a shot at the winners and losers of this week.

Alexandria at Wabash - Wabash might have the best receiver in the conference in Daughtry. Kid can go and get it. Problem is the defense is not there at all for the Apaches. Alexandria wins this one.

Knox at Maconaquah - Knox's style is not the type of game Mac wants to play at all. Mac will put some points on the board with their athleticism, but Knox will overpower them and take this game.

Manchester at Bluffton - Bluffton has some dudes on both sides of the ball. Strong showing by Manchester picking up the win, but I think they drop this one.

North Miami at Sheridan - Surprised by the North Miami score last week. It isn't going to get any easier this week for them. North Miami starts the year off 0-2.

Northfield at Cass - Cass lost a tight one last week to Pioneer. Northfield struggled against Bluffton. They just don't quite have the athletes they have in years past. Cass wins this one by a touchdown or two.

Southwood at Oak Hill - Not sure what to think for this game. Both teams graduated a lot of talent from last years teams. I think Oak Hill will be able to reload a little better than the 1A Southwood can so I'll take Oak Hill in this one.

Tippecanoe Valley at Rochester - The game of the week in the TRC, The Bell Game. Both teams have skill at every position. This one will be won in the trenches. Rochester has to limit the big play and control the clock. Valley has to get their playmakers out in space. Because I'm bias I'm taking Rochester but this one will be close and could go either way.

Whitko at Peru - Whitko getting their first win in two years for the kids is awesome. Grabbing a second win this week is going to be difficult. Peru takes this one to start the year 2-0.
