  1. This may seem like an odd question but it's not really for an 88 year old. Are there hand rails on the bleacher steps at the Reitz bowl. I looked at the field on Google Earth and couldn't tell for sure. Certainly a great looking field BTW. If I don't get an answer soon, I'll find out for sure in a few hours. :-)
  2. Both flocks of Thunderbirds are badly crippled this season so it's only fitting they can end the regular season going at each other. Eastern's Sag predictor rating is 2.6 while NC is at 4.2. Eastern is winless and NC has one win, that over the Indiana Deaf School. The two teams combined for 39 wins over the past two seasons so such a fall must be unusual to say the least. John Harrell has the game 28 - 27 Eastern at home. Sounds about right to me.
  3. That is true. It was his successor, Travis Wray, that was not renewed after one year.
  4. I have no idea about the future prospects the PH football program, but if this year's success is an indication of future success, then yes, I agree PH would be a nice addition to the Miner schedule. But as someone previously stated, PH had the opportunity but declined. I don't personally know that to be a fact. FWIW, I think the Miners would have the edge this year.
  5. The Eastern program has always been very fragile. This latest coaching change fiasco along with senior graduation losses has caused a real setback.
  6. Well, you all know how I love the Miners, and I would love to see us make a long run in the playoffs but realistically I think the season would be a success if we could win our first 2A Sectional title. Anything beyond that would be icing on the cake. We have a good shot this year but Mater Dei will be a tough out, not to mention a couple of others.
  7. I think the Miners will begin to pull away with their first offensive possession. Look for running clock in second half.
  8. In the West Vigo game, North Daviess QB Tanner Reed was injured and carted off the field on a stretcher with about 7 minutes to play. Anyone know his status?
  9. I would have edited the darn thing. I don't like making mistakes like that but there was no edit function on my post for some reason or other.
  10. I think when they built the former high school building in 1921 They officially added Stockton to the name. including Stockton Township. However, until recent years it was always called Linton High School. I don't like it either. Some folks think we are a consolidation.
  11. I was down to Booneville the last time the Miners played the Pioneers. It was 1945. Undefeated Linton, 9 - 0 - 1 defeated the Pioneers 21 - 6, one of two Booneville losses that year. The Miners were Southern Indiana Athletic Conference champions in 1945. Linton's only blemish was a 6 - 6 tie with Terre Haute Garfield. The Miners only gave up 24 points in their 10 games. I was a high school freshman and was in the band. The band traveled to all out of town games and performed on the home field in those days. We traveled with the team to South Bend to play SB Riley in the opening game the next year. Stayed overnight in SB. Great days to be a Miner. (And it still is) 😎 Another thing special about that year was a victory over arch-rival Sullivan 22- 0, the first win over Sullivan in 13 years. It was the traditional season ending Armistice Day (now Veterans Day) game, played at Sullivan that year. Touched off one of the wildest celebrations in the annals of Linton football. Several Linton fans remained overnight in the Sullivan County jail. 😁 Back to the 1945 Booneville game, an excerpt from the Linton 1946 yearbook states, "Our boys showed what they were made of in the next tilt by outscoring a fine Booneville team that lost only two games all season. This was perhaps the roughest game of the season, with Booneville outweighing our players at every position. Bud Peterson scored all three touchdowns in the 21 - 6 victory." (Peterson was a two - year, all - state halfback for Linton.)
  12. I was impressed with the Falcons offensive game. I think they will be back at Lucas Oil in November with a good shot to win it all. I don't see anyone in 1A stopping them.
  13. Maybe, but more likely Southridge has just been enough better than Linton to win.
  14. It must have been some sort of record with Monrovia fumbling 11 times but recovering all 11. The fumbles were mostly the result of bad snaps or mishandling of the snaps and resulted in over 60 yards in losses, many at inopportune times. Without all those gifts, the game might have been much closer. I never saw Monrovia play like that before. But as mentioned above the Miners gave away a couple of scoring opportunities also.
  15. I noticed the strange anomaly that Linton had something like a 45 point differential over Monrovia in the Sag ratings but John Harrell had The Miners a 4 point favorite. Actually, we all know that Harrell is much closer to being correct. 😊 Anyway, I hope you can make it to the game, Tom. One game at a time. One year at a time.
  16. Monrovia sorely needs to find some offense with gaining only 117 total yards last Friday evening against Edgewood. The D seems to have been adequate in their games with Ritter and Edgewood but the offense hasn't been there yet. Linton's rushing defense has been solid against Southridge and Sullivan so it appears the Bulldogs need to throw the ball with some success against the Miners although I don't thing passing is Monrovia's strength. It appears that Linton would have the edge but we shall see. The Monrovia JV offense was also lacking in a 30 - 0 loss to the Miner JV last Saturday. The young Miners were impressive. They've yet to give up a score in two games although Owen Valley was credited with a controversial safety in game 1 in a 14 -2 Miner win.
  17. Actually, Terry, This is the 105 game in this rivalry which I believe goes back the farthest of any series in the state. It's my understanding that the Peru - Logansport series is the longest consecutive years running in the state but the Linton - Sullivan game first played in 1904 may be the oldest. The game wasn't played every year in the beginning but has been played every year since 1926.so this will be the 94th consecutive year for the rivalry. Sullivan leads the series 52 - 50 - 2. Linton dominated in the earliest years but beginning in 1934 Sullivan dominated the Miners pretty much for the next 50 years. In this century, Linton leads the series 14 - 5. BTW, I have seen all but a few of the games since 1937.
  18. I don't think Coach Oliver would agree with you. He was obviously disappointed and angry after the game and said if the players don't learn to do what they're supposed to do they might not win a game all season. of course that was a bit of hyperbole, but they did make a ton of mistakes. I know I expected much better from a veteran team.
  19. Coach Weber had the team practicing in full pads a day or two too early. Someone from another nearby school reported it and the school and/or coach were placed on probation. That was the end of it.
  20. The new Eastern coach has his work cut out for him. Last year Eastern had a 36 man roster with 14 seniors. Nearly all of the key players will be gone.
  21. Eastern Greene Basketball coach, Jon Neill, has resigned. Eastern has a football coach candidate to vote on at the Monday night board meeting as Coach Dowell has stated. The candidate has no previous head football coaching background. Fired coach, Travis Wray, is joining former coach Paridaen as an assistant at Evansville North.
