  1. How much of a priority is turf to the Luers folk? Asking because I honestly don't know. Maybe other school matters are deemed more important than turf for now? Football seems pretty high on the list, so I would venture to guess it might be on their minds, but haven't found a way to finance it yet? That's a sizeable amount of dough to cough up on top of existing tuition, fees & other school or sports related expenses for the parents - and sizeable for some of the alumni as well, I'd think. I'm going out on a limb here and guessing that if Luers already had the funds appropriated they probably would have "just put it in" by now. Correct me if I'm wrong, though. Is there a sentimental or nostalgic component at play here? Luersfield is an iconic place for a lot of people. Maybe keeping it grass is a way to keep the "feel" of the place the same? Just a thought....
  2. You know it! I'd say one of the best I've eaten anywhere. Used to have two locations: downtown Huntington and Roanoke. Don't know if the Roanoke one is still there - lived across Hwy 24 from it before moving into the city. So tempting to call an order in, then walk across the road to get it & bring back home. Very good eats and nice, cozy, small-town environment in the downtown location.
  3. I lived in Huntington County for 15 years and in the City of Huntington for 5, just down the road from the stadium. You are correct in that it is most def a nice school, good athletic facilities and no shortage of money in that city/county. Should be plenty of athletic talent to utilize. Perhaps they're not a (dare I use this term) "football school"? They have had success in other sports over the years. Kreigbaum used to be one of those facilities where home & away crowds sat on the same side of the field but then at some point they added small bleachers on the visitors side. For the size of schools they play against seemed like they wouldn't provide enough seating for visitors on side opposite press box, but the seating arrangement doesn't affect how the teams play. Just an observation.
  4. His winning percentage at Peru is about 50% better than the previous HN coach, so that's a positive.
  5. Don't they play Vanderbilt at R-A the week prior? The TCU would be a good game to watch at R-A, but will have to watch from home (Waco, TX), and I will be pulling hard for the Boilers (my alma mater). TCU is from the conference "that doesn't like to play D", so I think Purdue could keep the scoreboard clicking. TCU offense was a mess with injuries, so if they don't pull it together, could get ugly for them. If Purdue could become a little more consistent I think the game would be a lock for them. My daughter attends Baylor (graduating in May), so I'm a fan of their fb program. TCU is practically a four-letter word here, and there was lots of bad blood between Patterson and Briles. Personally can't stand Patterson. Hope Purdue hangs 7, 8 or more TD's on 'em.
  6. Glad this place is open for business again. Besides Facebook, one of my few connections to "home", and really the only connection as far as football is concerned.
  7. FWCS needs to join the rest of the medium/large school football world. Install the turf.
