  1. Now that I think about it, might have been early 2000's when we went to that game...
  2. Brandon Robinson? Late 90's? I remember my wife and I went to a Heritage vs. Southern Wells game sometime in the mid-late 90's. A few of her family was talking smack at a family get-together about how they were going to woodshed Heritage, think that was when SW was having a few good years. We ended up beating SW by maybe 3-4 TD's. Best part I was sitting on the SW side (wife told me I had to sit w/her) with her family. I never made one smart comment about the game, just looked around at them and smiled as we stretched the lead in the 2nd half. I knew it was killing them! I don't think Robinson was the running back at that game, was a guy named Clapton or Clopton or something like that. Pretty big kid.
  3. I'd be down for that. I think between this site and a little communication with folk back home, I'm fed just enough info to make some halfway educated predictions.
  4. Wish I knew. Guessing a combination of new coach a couple years ago and maybe a drop in talent? We relocated to Texas in 2006 so besides what's on here strictly going off what family/friends tell me, but it's all their version of what's happening which may or may not be accurate. Enjoy keeping up with the sport "back home" via this forum. When I was at Heritage (early-mid 80's) we were that team that hovered around .500 most of the time. What era are you referring to? I remember they had several really good seasons but at a loss right now regarding the years.
  5. Interesting having Heritage in 4th, but I'm not complaining. I would have put them 5th or 6th. Not living in the area has it's drawbacks as you only hear the family/friends version of what schools are bringing back talent-wise. Be interesting to see how it works out.
  6. I looked for that interview yesterday and couldn't find it. Checked the local news channels (that I know of) websites. I did see one of the reports for the ACAC media day and read that SW did not attend, but I believe the coach gave them a statement through e-mail/text/other. Def not the same "old" ACAC conference of the mid- 80's!
  7. My top 4: Woodlan, SA, Bluffton & AC in that order. Would love to see Heritage (my alma mater) get out of the basement this year. Also would like to see SW do something as that's where my wife graduated from. Been a few tough seasons for both schools. Wish them well, but might not be this year for either program based on the little I've heard from friends/relatives up there. Keep hoping though.....
  8. Those home stands are huge! Glad to see BD getting the improvements.
  9. All the rain this spring/summer can't be helping either.....
  10. Agree that the way things are done now, traditional 2-a-days really aren't needed. The "2-a-days" my sons had were 7am-noon, the first full 3 weeks in August. When I found out what all they accomplished, it was just as much as when I played in the 80's and was there from 7am to 5pm or thereabouts. They have got time management down pretty well these days and are good at figuring out what to focus on. I also think the limited full pad contact time is a factor here. Back in the day we went helmets only the first 3 days and after that it was full-on smashmouth time the entire day. Once the pads were on we were taking each other to the ground all day every day.
  11. From an "outsiders" viewpoint..... Texas has a 45 point mercy rule for 6-man, no mercy rule for 11-man (yet). If both coaches agree at halftime, they can have a running clock in 11-man. In watching 9 years of HS football down here, while my kids were participating, I only saw opponents go to a running clock twice. Been to games where we were ahead 35, 42, and a couple times even 50-something at the half and opposing coach refused a running clock when our coach brought it up. We still ran simple plays and threw all the subs in. Come to think of it, on the flip side, I can't remember our coach EVER accepting a running clock but we weren't in that situation but maybe 4 or 5 games. I realize one school over 9 seasons is a small sample size, but we never allowed a team anywhere close to coming back on us if the score was 35+ at half. By that same token, the few "woodsheddings" we took were the same way, never had a prayer of getting back in the game. 2 - 4 TD gap, I can see a comeback. 35+ probably not, for one just due to the limited time on the clock. You have to score more than 35 points, plus hold the opposition to zero. Even 28 points may be a stretch for a lot of teams. I can def see a mercy rule for 42, and 35 seems reasonable to me. If it's "over" that early, run the clock, reduce chances for injury, get everyone home a little earlier.
  12. Regarding the bear at mid-field, completely understand that the Northrop folk would be in favor of that, after all the stadium is on their school's grounds. Although, Steve Corona does mention that it's ultimately a FWCS property - and shared by two teams for football.. They could have each team's name & colors in the end zones and the schools system's name/logo at mid-field. This stadium was built in Waco for the two public high schools whose stadiums had reached their potential.
  13. I hope Prescott turns their program around. They're long overdue for some winning seasons and maybe some extended playoff runs. Like it's been said before on this thread, North has the facilities, money, and with their size should be a legit talent pool as well. Time will tell....
  14. Our school participated/participates in 7o7. Oldest son was a receiver, youngest was a LB/RB. Benefits to the older are pretty obvious; the younger one thought it helped helped him with dropping back into pass coverage and getting used to working with the DB's. Our schools linemen spend summers lifting, conditioning and doing some agility drills. Not sure what else there is for them to do w/o contact. No 11 on 11 in Texas during the summer that I know of, just spring football at the bigger high schools. Is summer 11 on 11 a thing up there nowadays? That could be of help to the linemen, but how do get them to go with just light contact? I know with our kids that might last one or two series until someone gets pushed a little harder than before or the ego's start taking over. There's really not much else going on down here during the summer, with respect to high school sports, than football conditioning. Baseball usually wraps up around the end of the school year.
  15. So the fact that I no longer live in Indiana, and that my kids have all graduated and are no longer playing, initially made it difficult for me to look favorably on this being a pay site - unless the forum was in danger of going away. Since I've been around I really enjoy keeping up with a sport I love and how the schools I have interest in are doing. No one is forcing me to visit this site. If that were the case I'd be 100% against paying, be it forced or voluntary. Rather, I'm here on my own will and choosing. If I'm benefiting from information or services provided, which is the case, it only seems right to me to help out. I believe if enough people were inclined to do this, there wouldn't be the need to even consider making it a pay site. I'm on a couple football forums down here, and donate already. Not sure why I never thought about it until now with this website.
  16. Lots of interesting debate and valid points for the pros & cons of going to a pay site. When I first found this forum I was a lurker, and now probably more of a topic guy than a conference thread guy since there's not much ACAC content here. However I do post there and also on the SAC threads .
  17. Pretty much like that down here, with a very few exceptions. FWIW, I think there are lots of fans that could use some sensitivity training regarding their actions/words in the bleachers Friday nights. The government will never pass up an opportunity to protect us from ourselves. Sorry I went political there.
  18. We have it in Texas, at the high school my kids attended. Well, actually I don't believe they did it when my daughter was in h.s. (graduated 2013) but both boys (graduated 2016 & 2018) had to do it. Unfortunately don't know exactly what they were testing for. Pretty sure the standard "social drugs" (like the terminology?), but don't recall the boys saying if PED's were included.
  19. I'm definitely not condoning profane vm's to players or the other stuff mentioned, but I would think these kinds of things are outliers. If you have a coach with self control/anger issues, making them sit through some training won't accomplish much, seeing how most of these things happen in the heat of the moment into the season. Maybe someone that's not smart enough to know where to draw the line would benefit, but then they probably shouldn't be working with impressionable kids anyway. Let's all sing "Kumbaya" together.
  20. Make sure to visit every now & then. I've been in Texas for almost 13 years, and I'm really glad I stumbled across this forum and can use it as a way to keep up with the goings on in Indiana football. It's another small reminder of home.
  21. It is a very nice facility. The schools that share that are both 5A size; well one may have bumped up to 6A now that I think about it. They have a lot of playoff games there as well. ..... and you get the privilege of paying $5/car to park as well as admission to the game lol.
  22. That's how it's done in Waco at the stadium shared by the 2 WISD high schools. Lions on one end, Trojans on the other, WISD logo in the middle.
