Thanks.  That certainly addresses the issue.

"Next year, the IHSAA will resume reclassification of team sports using certified enrollment figures from the 2021-22 school year for the next two-year cycle (2022-23, 2023-24). Tournament Success Factor points from the 2020-21 and 2021-22 tournament results will be applied toward that next two-year cycle."

So if I'm interpreting this correctly, a school that moved up due to Success Factor just for this year like Lafayette Central Catholic must at least win regional in 2021 to remain in 2A because they would have no SF points in 2A from the 2020 season when they were in 1A.

People with this attitude are the reason why serious discussion can't EVER get off the ground about seeding.  Geography is going to play a factor in things obviously (heck, we had MD during the Schiff years in our sectional, we get it) - but that shouldn't have ANY bearing on why or why not we SHOULD seed the sectionals.

I get that teams from other parts of the state want to keep the Indy area teams away as long as they can, but the unwillingness to seed past the sectional level pretty much blows the use of the "fairness" argument out of the water.

Let's look at the 2A rankings right now.  7 of the 9 top teams in the polls are in the North.  Eastbrook and Tipton are both in the top 5 and are in the same sectional.  Luers and Eastside are in the top 5 and in the same sectional.  Why should those four teams have half the opportunity as Linton-Stockton just because there aren't any other top teams in their area?  Do those extra game that mean so much stop meaning as much outside of a 25 mile radius?

As I said earlier, seeding sectionals doesn't usually ultimately change who gets a trophy .  Seeding an entire class absolutely would.

I think those 1 or 2 games matter a lot.  Someone has to lose that early match up between number 1 and 2 and they have both earned the right to get that extra game or two, for many kids it's the last time they will ever play.

And if you seed it incorrectly you could be screwing another team out of an extra game they should've played.  Blind draw is impartial.  It doesn't determine anything based on preconceived notions of who the best team is.

And for those that are arguing for seeding, why seed it at the sectional level?  If you're looking for fair, I'll tell you what's not fair.  Its for certain teams that might be one of the top 5 teams in their class to not have an opportunity to go to state, or even win a sectional, because they are always up against Chatard, or Cathedral or someone in their sectional.  Or for teams from one half of the state to get a much easier path to LOS because their class is loaded in the other half of the state.

So if we're going for "fair", let's not do it half-way.  Ultimately, the bigger injustice is that Brebeuf and West Lafayette might be the top two teams in 3A this year but only one of them will win their sectional and possibly get denied 3-5 extra games.  Let's make sure that they can't play one another until at least regional or semistate.

  4. I'm not a proponent of seeding the tournament.  I don't really think it's worth it just to prevent an early-round matchup of the favorites.  So one team may potentially play 1 or 2 fewer games.  Still doesn't change who gets the trophy.  Who makes the determination who is the top team and the 2nd best team in each sectional anyway?  Sure, sometimes it's obvious.  But sometimes it's not.  That's kind of why they play the tournament to begin with.  If you want to start by saying that Team X is already the best team in the sectional before you play it, then let's just cut to the chase and start at the regional round of the tournament with just those teams that were already deemed to be the best in their sectional.

I believe (tough I am not 100%) this year is a 1 year cycle.  The SF's moved up/down and that was it.  I think all sectionals will be reset after this year with enrolment.  That means Webo/Chatard/LCC may move back down to their respective classes based on enrolment and not SF.  Again, I am not 100% sure this is correct but how I (and some others) have interpreted the IHSAA info.  At some point they have to shake this back out to get everything on the same 2 year schedule.  The IHSAA doesn't want to have to redo sectional yearly.

That was my thought as well about not wanting to reorganize the sectionals every year.  Just wasn't sure how they were planning to get back on that 2-year schedule.

  6. Just curious how everything is going to work since they did the SF reclasses last off-season but not the attendance-based realignment.  My assumption is that they will do the attendance-based realignment after this season but hold off on the SF reclasses until after the 2022 football season.  But if they're ever going to sync the two back up, one will need to be a year early or a year late at some point and I hadn't read anything about that.

That is to bad for Eastbrook.  I know they are not getting much out of backend of schedule with Alex,Blackford and Elwood. Hopefully they will be ready for tourney time!

First half wasn't much to write home about either.  Will be interesting to see if it costs them in the playoffs.  Some years it hasn't hurt them but I'd argue no way they make it to state in 2019 had they not learned some early lessons against Marion and Delta.  But in years prior they ended up in the state finals anyway with a lackluster regular season schedule.

Would be an interesting match-up with Eastbrook.  I think, at this point, Harrison's happy to be playing somebody as opposed to sitting home Friday night.  They were originally scheduled to play cross-town, sister-school, McCutcheon for "The Sword."

This game will not do anybody any good.  Harrison would be better served having an extra practice instead.

Props to the HC coach.  He is apparently not afraid to take his team and play someone good.  He's done it two weeks in a row now.  Unfortunately, they just don't have the players to compete.

I don't know why the Eastbrook game didn't come to fruition, but that would've been a more competitive game and actually an interesting one for fans.

Just saw that also....  Harrison Lafayette is looking.  AP 5A #5 vs 2A #2.  That could sell some tickets, but getting a game plan together that quick would be interesting.

If Eastbrook can schedule that they absolutely should.  A challenging game like that would be like a gift for them after not really having one on the regular schedule all year.

Please learn to read.  If Sagamore were to ADD 4 schools.  Which 4 schools make the most sense?

Heritage Christian, Brebeuf, Tipton, Hamilton Heights, Speedway.

If you start looking smaller, which I wouldn't, then Sheridan, Clinton Prairie, and Clinton Central.  And I only include those schools because under your premise Frankfort is still in the conference.

Here is how I see it.  Frankfort moves to Hoosier East and North Montgomery to Hoosier West.  Crawfordsville joins the WIC and makes 12 teams(that conference realigns Gold division-C-ville, Greencastle, West Vigo, Sullivan, Northview, N.Putnam Green division-Edgewood, S.Putnam, Cloverdale, Indian Creek, Owen Valley, Brown Cty).  Southmont moves to Wabash River and makes 9 team conference.  The remaining 4 combine with Circle City (TW, Lebanon, WeBo, Danville, Guerin, Chatard, Roncalli, Brebeuf).   Only a dream, but sure to make good conversation.

I think this could work well for TW and Danville who would likely stick together through any movement.  I don't think the Montgomery County schools have any interest in splitting up into different conferences.  I think Western Boone will always look at the Montgomery County schools and Lebanon as their main rivals and would want to stay in a conference with both.  I could see Lebanon looking to move on to a more Indy-centric conference at some point but their football team doesn't really demand an upgrade in competition at this point.  When they are at their best, they compete near the top of the Sagamore but they aren't ready to compete regularly against the Indy Catholic powers or larger public programs like Brownsburg and Zionsville.

Hmm, in regards to football Crawfordsville is "fine".  Really? :

    2020 SEASON (0-10)

    2019 SEASON (1-9)

    2018 SEASON (1-9)

    2017 SEASON (0-10)

    2016 SEASON (2-8)

    2015 SEASON (2-8)

    2014 SEASON (2-8)

    2013 SEASON (0-10)

    2012 SEASON (1-9)

    2011 SEASON (3-7)

    2010 SEASON (1-9)

    2009 SEASON (1-9)

    2008 SEASON (4-6)

    2007 SEASON (7-4)

Looks like the citizens of Crawfordsville make tackle football the same priority as the citizens of Frankfort.

I was talking about the cultural fit.  They are not "upscale" like Western Boone.

Look for the Sagamore conference to be gutted within the next five years. One can easily see the likes of Danville, Lebanon, Tri-West, and Western Boone fleeing to greener pastures of the Indianapolis metro/urban-sprawl athletic conferences.

Nah.  The Montgomery County schools are all fine.  Frankfort is the misfit.  They should go to the Hoosier Heartland Conference imo.

If you or @XStar were the Western Boone AD and had the choice to schedule either a competent 5A school in Kokomo or a moribund 5A school in Hammond Central to come to your field for a homecoming game which would you choose?

After all one of the Western Boone homers on this board did say this:

Yet here we are with the Stars playing a 5A school.

So what exactly was the decision point between choosing 5A Kokomo or 5A Hammond Central?  According to Harrell's the Wildkats still have an open date for 9/24, so it's not like Kokomo picked up an opponent while the Western Boone AD was mulling his options, leaving only Hammond Central available.

I would've scheduled Kokomo just because it's a game I'd want to see.  I'm guessing it would be a better gate and almost certainly superior competition and I think playing games like that make the team tougher in the playoffs.  But I'm just a fan.  Not a coach.

I don't know the reasons behind the decision.  Perhaps it's as simple as wanting to get a win for homecoming and they'd have been significant underdogs to Kokomo.  Maybe they just don't want to schedule what would figure to be a more physical game and go into the final 3 games of their conference schedule banged up with games against 5-0 Southmont, 4-1 Danville, and their rivalry game against 4A Lebanon still on the horizon.  Maybe there are some relationships involved or maybe there were other factors none of us is aware of.  You seem to assume it's just that they don't want to risk a more likely loss.  That could be it, or part of it, or not it at all.  It's not as if they haven't played 5A Lafayette Harrison and 4A Western in recent years as one of their 2 nonconference games so it's not like they are just looking for easy wins there.

I didn’t agree with only one game suspension either, until I heard of the punishment that the some parents and coaches have done. I think a couple of the kids have learned from their mistakes and won’t let it happen again. It does look bad if your an outsider and only see it as a one game suspension. But trust me it was more than that on and off the field

Big win for ole miss last week. I thought that they would win but not by that much… saw Campbell had like 6 TDs

Fair enough.  Like I mentioned earlier, I don't have all of the details but I have heard a great deal about it.  Appreciate your perspective.

Look, you can dance around this all you like, but you’ve been doing this kind of thing on here for years now.

Questioning decisions made by certain people?  Yeah, I have.  Wish I didn't have to do it anymore but adults need to make the right choices.

Seems to me like you’re a little more invested in this incident than you’re letting on.  First you were innocently inquiring about the availability of a few players, as if the game would be more competitive.  Now you’re holding public court on these boys and the coach.  Seems a little trollish to me.  Go find another sandbox to play in.

Since when does Mason Gillis play Eastbrook football?  When did Eastbrook hire Matt Painter as their football coach?
