SAC Sectional week 1
IPFWFootball replied to jakone's topic in The Indiana High School Football Forum
Wayne-Dwenger...wouldn't be surprised if Wayne found a way to win this game, but also they haven't shown me anything really throughout the year to think this is the year they get over the hump. Dwenger takes this one and could take this advantageous draw to a potential sectional title....Saints by 14 Leo-South Side..really thought South was gonna grab another big win last week against a bad Northrop team but couldn't get it done...Leo shouldn't have to do much to win this one and focus on a big NE8 rematch next week...Lions by 30 Yorktown-Concordia...rough year for the Cadets ends. Yorktown by 28 Luers-Churubusco...Luers has all the pieces to walk through this sectional, regionals and Semi-State will be tougher challenges but Harrell has them as the favorite in 2A North...Knights by 24 -
"Interesting" is definitely one way to put it. Overall none of what I have heard is surprising or much different from issues that have been around all year to my knowledge. Will be very interested to see what happens Friday. Carroll may put up 70 more...
-
Dwenger-Concordia...Saints get a nice get right game going into sectionals where they got a favorable draw. Heard Dwengers RB may be out for the year so will need to fill that gap in. Long year almost over for the Cadets...Dwenger by 30 Luers-Homestead...the sanctity of the Victory Bell is at stake here lol. Luers has done all they were tasked to do and won what their schedule permitted. Think this one is 100% dependent on what version of Homestead shows up. I'm thinking the good one will. Spartans by 10 North Side-Carroll...Chargers also get a get right game. Hearing Tae may be done for the year at North, hoping that kid can figure it out at the next level. Chargers by 40 Northrop-South Side....Game of the week? Think South has just enough to get it done. Archers by 3 Wayne-Snider..Think this game could be over super fast if both teams just choose to run the ball all night. Panthers roll. Snider by 28
-
Carroll-Northrop....Chargers will win this one by however many they want. Northrop needs to focus on next weeks matchup with South as their lone chance to not make a play at an Elmhurst-esc losing streak...Chargers by 45 Concordia-Homestead..The Good Spartans/Bad Spartans paradox shows it a week for the good Spartans, wouldn't matter if the bad ones showed up this week either as the Cadets are rough...Spartans by 40 Snider-Dwenger...had Snider not been upset a few weeks ago, I think Dwenger would have been in a prime spot to make a game of this. But Panthers should be focused and this matchup always has a little more juice, Saints too indisciplined...Panthers by 17 South Side-Luers....I can complain about how a conference champion is crowned all I want but all that matters is if you win the games on your schedule. And the Knights have done that, should be an easy one before the big matchup with Homestead...Luers by 28 Wayne-North Side...still have no clue what to make of this Legends team. Offense is anemic without Tae so the coaching staffs number 1 priority should be to keep him mentally in this game. Wayne has the athletes to go shot for shot here, think they pull it out...Generals by 5
-
I think its knowing that a lot of the pieces for success are there, I look at a school like Covenant Christian down in Indy and what they were able to do as they built a program from the ground up, may not be the exact results as pulling from a West Indy/Suburbs talent pool, but with vouchers expanding making the school more accessible, it could only take 1 special class to come in over a few years to set up a long postseason run
-
Probably not a super hot take, but I wouldn't be surprised is Blackhawk fields a consistent competitive program before Northrop or South over the next 5 years
-
Concordia-Wayne...Generals seemed to throw everything they had at Carroll last week which was fun to see, should be a big win this week...Generals by 24 Dwenger-Luers...Knights held on to an ugly game last Friday and control their own destiny for the SAC somehow (these divisions mean nothing essentially)..Dwenger again has slowly improved each week. My pick for game of the week....Saints by 3 North Side-South Side...no team is more disappointing than North, calling them undisciplined feels like an understatement. They should be able to still pull this one out without Tae who should be suspended. But South coming off their first big win could be feisty....North by 6 Northrop-Snider...Poor Northrop, not only does this look like one of the worst teams they have ever had, they now get their roommate (not a rivalry) coming off a loss. I know Snider doesn't run up the score, but they may just look to get right at the expense of the Bruins this week....Panthers by 40 Homestead-Carroll...After looking at how each team performed last week, the instant reaction would be to think the Spartans take this one, but they haven't proven any sort of consistency so far and maybe Carroll was caught in a let down spot against Wayne, should still be a good one...Chargers by 7
-
What a crazy week in the SAC. Good Homestead comes out and catches Snider in a let down spot for a huge W. Long term think this may help the Panthers to refocus. Wayne almost catches Carroll in the same position. Congrats to South for picking up not just a win, but a dominating win at that. Think all the “swagger” is slowly ruining North. Starting to wonder if #3 will have what it takes between the ears to stick at the next level, getting tossed last night was the death blow to the Legends. Luers deserves their share of credit for the win and part of the blame for the chippy nature of the game, but they stayed more disciplined in the end and earned the win. Also I am one who doesn’t hate skipping a handshake line postgame as it could have escalated something bad
-
Dwenger-Northrop...Saints have quietly been improving each week, in the end it won't result in much more than a .500 record and will need a lucky draw for a sectional run, but improvement in general is better to see than a crash an burn. Northrop is really bad...Saints by 21 Luers-North Side...The game I'll be at this week, interested to see the revamped North offense in person, think they'll just have a little too much for the Knights to handle, but Luers has continued to improve each week as well...Legends by 10 Snider-Homestead...This final will be 100% determined by which Homestead shows up..Good Homestead could catch Snider on a let down week and keep this game close to the end. Bad Homstead could see a running clock in the 4th quarter....Panthers by 17 South Side-Concordia...Cadets have looked better this year than South...Passing attack lights it up..Cadets by 28 Wayne-Carroll...Carrolls focus from here on out should be to stay healthy and get the offensive line better to try and compete in the playoffs....easy week here..Chargers by 40
-
Yeah can't see the Neighborhood Association letting that go through on the land on Lanes side, would back up to a lot of houses. If they could move the practice field and tennis courts over there though and build a stadium on the footprint where the field/practice area are now that could work. But also as someone who lives in the area, couldn't imagine how awful parking/traffic/logistics would be on game nights.
-
Concordia-Luers...Concordia has shown ability to put up points, can the Luers D hold up and not force the offense into a shootout? Luers by 7 Northrop-North Side...who would have thought putting the ball in your D1 Talents hands every play would work out? If they would have ran that offense against Dwenger they would have won by 3 scores...Giving up almost 40 on defense is still troublesome but shouldn't be a concern against a bad Bruins team...Legends by 25 Wayne-South Side...both teams have lost their Week 1 luster. One of them gets it back this week. Generals by 20 Homestead-Dwenger...last weeks first half may have been the best the Saints have looked all year...too bad football is 4 quarters. Homestead by 12 Carroll-Snider...essentially the SAC Title game right here has seemed to lose some of its luster as Snider has looked much better so far this year than Carroll. Think this game will show that...Panthers by 17
-
Dwenger-Carroll....the Saints pulled out an ugly win Friday but this Dwenger team just isn't very good. Carroll should be able to win this one by as many as they want...Chargers by 35+ Luers-Wayne...game of the week? woof. Interested to see how Wayne bounces back after losing big to Homestead. Luers struggled with Northrop early but seemed to get it figured out...Generals by 3 North Side-Concordia...good news for North Side is they have hit the easier part of their schedule. I think they have too much athleticism for Concordia, but if things don't go their way early, they could implode...Legends by 21 Northrop-Homestead...Homestead put it on Wayne, but this team is still a mystery to me, should handle Northrop easily...Spartans by 28 South Side-Snider...after seeing some of the backlash on Carroll you think Snider calls off the dogs earlier this week? Or do they go for 80? Panthers by however much they want.
-
Both King and Johnson played Friday night, but new QB can't throw the ball, still very undisciplined.
-
Carroll-South Side...Carroll's OL has looked rough the first two week, get an easier matchup this week to hopefully get things straightened out....Chargers by 28 Luers-Northrop...rough start for both teams, the New Haven Bulldog blowout transitive property gives Luers the edge here...Knights by 7 North Side-Dwenger...most interesting matchup of the week for sure. Time to see what this Dwenger team really may be while not facing a powerhouse. Will Tae play? Will it matter? Legends swagger attitude is a tough sell when you can't win games....Saints by 3 Snider-Concordia...Cadets showed some good offense last week, won't be as fortunate this week...Panthers by 30 Homestead-Wayne...credit to Wayne for being 2-0 taking care of business, serious question has Wayne ever beaten Homestead? I'm sure they don't have a ton of historical meetings. But being so confused by the difference between Week 1 vs Week 2 Spartans has me rooting for Wayne here...Generals by 1
-
Eastbrook-Concordia....Again another good long term matchup for the Cadets, but not this year....Eastbrook by 28 Bishop Dwenger-Moeller...Whats better, schedule two easier games and starting 2-0 or getting smoked against two teams at the top of their states biggest classes? I'm holding out anymore judgment on BD until next weeks matchup against North....Moeller by 35 North Side-Lawrence North...North not scoring an offensive TD is a big red flag. I don't think Tae can make that big of a difference, especially in this heat imagine cramping will continue to be an issue...LN by 21 Snider-East Noble...Snider showed they are a force in 5A, I think EN has a chance to be competitive but think that Week 1 win over Luers may turn out to be less impressive as time goes on...Snider by 17 Wayne-Northrop...Neither team could find a 2nd opponent out of conference, which isn't super surprising. Wayne has a chance to follow up their opening week with another big win..Wayne by 14 Homestead-Noblesville...Homestead made a statement last week hanging with Carmel. If it was for real, they should have no problem against a lesser team from Hamilton County...Homestead by 10 New Haven-Bishop Luers...Luers struggled with EN offense, how are they going to handle an even more dynamic force? Could be another ugly one...NH by 24 St. Joseph-South Side..an interesting matchup, don't know much about St.Joe except they've been below average the last few years. Hopefully South can keep the momentum going..St.Joe by 8 Warren Central-Carroll...both teams coming off of disappointing losses in Week 1. Think Carroll needs to come out and show 6A that they are still a force and can do what Snider did to WC...Carroll by 17
-
Thoughts on SAC Week 1 Huge Statement win by Snider, no matter what Warren ends up being this season, going on the road and winning in the dominant fashion that they did really puts 5A on notice. Interested to see how Carroll looks against WC as we look ahead to the Week 5 Snider-Carroll matchup Speaking of Carroll, I don't think there is any reason to panic after the loss this week. HSE is a tough environment and they were fueled by revenge. For recruiting purposes though, hopefully Jimmy can look a little sharper moving forward. Homestead taking Carmel to the brink was a pleasant surprise. Seems like the Spartans are better than what I and many others gave them credit for in the preseason Heard North Side looked sloppy on Friday, poor execution, lack of adjustments, new QB struggled. Was told King and Johnson wouldn't have made up the gap as Northridge just played a simple disciplined system. A tough matchup ahead for the Legends against LC I'm withholding all judgement on this Dwenger team until Week 3 vs North. I'm not sure there is a Saints team in the last 7/8 years that would have beaten Brownsburg. The '18 and '19 teams probably would have been more competitive. Lots of groaning in the stands with fans wondering why these first two opponents were scheduled. I can understand the sentiment but also think its better to play up than schedule two cupcakes. Luers get whomped was not something I saw coming. Seeing how they look against New Haven and EN looks against Snider will help give me a better idea on what to think of the Knights I know moral victories aren't what you play for, but South losing a close game is a positive sign. Playing competitive games will help long term, especially towards the back end of their schedule where more winnable games sit. Wayne did its job against Attucks and picked up the rare W for the SAC. Should pick up another win this week against Northrop Northrop and Concordia don't have each other on their schedules this year and I could see both teams going 0-10. I'm more optimistic on what I've seen and heard from South Side compared to these two teams Bring on Week 2!
-
From what I've heard, they are young and obviously have no one to fill the giant hole Washington left as their main offensive playmaker. On paper South and Wayne may be their only winnable games, but I feel South has some more optimism and if Wayne lives up to some of the hype this year makes it even tougher. And yeah saw Blitz report that on Twitter about the injuries, makes it a lot tougher without your two D1 guys. I am curious if we would have seen them dressed if it was still the Week 1 Snider matchup of years past

Brownsburg-Dwenger - Credit to BD for putting maybe the toughest out of conference schedule together, but think this one will be ugly early...Brownsburg by 28 Carmel-Homestead - We could call this the "Cake Eater" Bowl, Carmel may be on a mission after a down year..Carmel by 24 Carroll-HSE - Fun rematch of Semi-State, think Carroll sends a message that they are still for real...Chargers by 5 Scecina-Concordia - Think this will be a good matchup for Concordia to keep on the schedule long term. But this will be the start for a rough year for them...Scecina by 14 East Noble- Luers - Really fun matchup, local game of the week in my opinion..Luers by 7 New Haven-Northrop -New Haven is the most intriguing team in the area to me this year lets see how this offense looks...New Haven by 21 Warren Central-Snider - WC also looking to bounce back from a down year. Think is this game is played at the end of the year Snider is in a better spot to win...WC by 16 South Side-Marion - Huge positive for the new open schedule is a program like South getting a game like this on their schedule, should set help the tone in rebuilding a respectable program regardless of outcome..Archers by 2 Wayne-Crispus Attucks - Every year we hear how frisky Wayne is, this team may actually fit the billing...Wayne by 11 North Side-Northridge - No Tae or King this week hurts, interested to see how the new QB looks running the offense, time for North to defend their hype...Legends by 3
-
On the flip side of the top teams getting to face tougher challenges and making them better prepared for postseason play (Which I totally believe), I think the lower end SAC teams will benefit greatly from getting to compete against other teams on their size/skill level. Having competitive and winnable games can do huge things for teams like South/Wayne/Concordia with building confidence and belief in the program compared to having to just get trounced by the teams at the top.
-
Carroll-Lafayette Jeff...Jeff seems like a solid team but Carroll will have a little more to take this one..Chargers by 10 Adams Central-Carroll...Another week where the main goal for AC is to keep everyone healthy...AC by however much they want. Luers-Bluffton...Bluffton comes off a nice sectional win, but Luers is a whole other level...Knights by 30 Columbia City-Kokomo..this game may have a combined 100 rush attempts and be done in an hour...Kokomo by 3 Snider-Mishawaka...I think the Panthers got over their toughest test up North last week, if they can clean up the mistakes they can roll this week and next...Panthers by 14

This^^^ North’s Coaching was their biggest weakness this season…but they had so much talent that it covered their flaws -

Let me preface this with I do enjoy when my Alma Mater is competitive…but You can have all the noise on Twitter by players and coaches, you can have the documentary crew following you, you can have the coordinated coaching outfits. If you can’t instill the discipline to not false start, to not take bad unsportsmanlike penalties, and can’t handle adversity you get beat by the established program who even when they make big errors can right the ship when it counts. I knew once the Legends didn’t put the game away after the INT in the End zone, they were in trouble. -

Warsaw at Carroll - I think Carroll winning in the fashion that they did on Friday silenced a lot of doubters, they take care of business here...Chargers by 28 North Side at Snider - Excited to be in the stands for this one...North may have slight advantage on some top end talent...but Snider has way more depth. That along with coaching, and special teams will be the difference...Panthers by 5 Leo at Columbia City - Happy for Coach Doerffler on a good first season, what will end as 4 losses to CC, Norwell, and Kokomo is nothing to be upset about, This CC team could be the dark horse in 4A North. Columbia City by 10 Yorktown at Norwell - Norwell wins easily and prepares for a big challenge next week...Norwell by 30 Bishop Luers at Eastside - For the longest time the small schools in NE Indiana were scared of matching up against Luers come playoff time...Eastside isn't intimidated..game of the week..Eastside by 2 Eastbrook at Bluffton - No clue on either team...Eastbrook by 7 Adams Central at Northfield - Jets just need to keep everyone healthy for a few more weeks...AC by 40 -
Temp's 5A Bracket Analysis
IPFWFootball replied to temptation's topic in The Indiana High School Football Forum
I could see North getting caught sleepwalking at the start against Anderson and fall behind early but they should be able to turn that around quickly and cruise from there. When it comes to a Snider-North rematch, I see it still being a close game. But in close games Special Teams, Discipline, and Coaching are all big factors and in those three areas Snider has a HUGE advantage -

Would love to see North Side make a run, but I'm worried that even if they get past Snider in sectional, they don't have the discipline and structure to make a deep run. Where as Snider may not have as much flashy talent as North, I think they have the pieces to go all the way.
