Congratulations to @boilerfan87 on winning this year’s competition! This is the fourth year that I’ve run this and @boilerfan87 is our first ever two-time winner. I hope everyone joins again next year and please remember that you have to pick every single game in order to be in contention in the main pick ‘em competition.

    HHC Pick ‘Em Winner History:

    2020: @boilerfan87

    2021: @Frozen Tundra

    2022: @LC_Bears_04

    2023: @boilerfan87

This was fun.  I got started late and missed a couple in the middle but it was still a good time.  The HHC Group is a super active thread.  Until next year!

I don’t know where you’re getting your information, but I would suggest you find a better source.

Sure they can. Now, whether it actually gets reviewed is another question.

You must have not lost any money or points so keep up the good work! 😄

I imagine safety issues like intentional helmet to helmet contact right in front of the official and on video may get some attention by the IHSAA.

There are some instances, often involving player or coach disqualifications, that the IHSAA reviews video. But they have nowhere near the manpower needed to police 160 games every weekend. So, most of the “heinous/irresponsible calls” go unaddressed. And by “heinous/irresponsible calls” I mean those that “I disagree with and go against my team.”

Coaches can turn in video for IHSAA to review.

It might pain some of you guys to know how dire the situation is with officials. There are several school each week using throw together crews, many times with guys who lack sufficient experience to handle a V game. No clue who the crew was at East or if this was even the case but I can tell you East was one of those schools.
Example my crew retired after last season, we had games scheduled into 2028. We were one of two crews in our small association. Larger associations lost even more. IOA guys have told me they’ve lost 12 in the last three years. That’s a ton of experience, mentors, trainers, etc. leaving the profession. I have had several long time officials ask me about my experience, have I missed it, etc. because we’re all old and frankly I’ve reached a point in my life where other people’s children are no longer a priority for me.

At Terre Haute, last Friday, it was the crew's first game officiating.  IHSAA sent a head official to observe and help them.  The game drug out forever and there were some weird calls but it's what they have to do.  I believe one of the games in the area actually took place on Thursday because of lack of officials for Friday.

On another note, I have heard that coaches can send in complaints with footage and the IHSAA will investigate the calls.  In some instances officials could have points toward the state tournament taken away and/or not get paid.  If this is true, there is accountability for heinous/irresponsible calls.

No doubt it's a tough job and probably not really worth the money that they actually get.  I would say the majority of officials are doing it because they love the game.

  5. Dang @Frozen Tundra you are the harbinger of bad tidings for the orange flames.  Maybe your boys will surprise you tonight and catch a spark from former seasons?

Come over to North early, like 5:30pm and get some Colts swag.  The Colts cheerleaders and "players" (I figure it will be a couple retired guys as the team will be playing in Houston) are coming to our game to give the program a check for $1000.  They will be giving away some Colts swag and having drawings for some signed Colts memorabilia.  Also games, food and other fun stuff.  Free entry for first responders and military personnel to honor September 11th.
