That was always the rumor back when the Bremen AD, Frank DeSantis, was also on the IHSAA Executive Board. I have my doubts.

Bremen has always been bounced around geographically. Sometimes we are in the Northeast, Northwest, North Central.  Back in the days that was the case and the same can be said 25 years later. We have hard sectional opponents from Eastside to Whiting and as far south as Oak Hill.

  2. Post season rankings don't mean anything. The only thing that matters is being the last team standing after the playoffs. Guys  who look at post season rankings, use them as a measuring contest to talk trash to their buddies. Heck, I would argue pre-season rankings matter more, because they somewhat set the pecking order for next year.

Clay may be hard to fill since who knows what the SB schools are going to do as far as buildings etc.

Jimtown is surprising since they could pick up a couple of kids who do not want to go to the new, bigger, Elkhart and could play at J'town.  Interesting not much seems to be happening

This is a real possibility. I know Jimtown numbers are lowering every year.  This might lead to an uptick. Interesting to see what happens.

Jimtown and Clay jobs still open. Any word on timetables for filling either of these spots? With interim coach at Riley this year, 3 of the NIC South will have new HC's.  Should be a wide open battle for top spot in the South.

I think Glenn is the team to beat in the South this year. They return some good players, Jimtown loses talent, and Marian is moving to the North.

I see your point....although the teams ND play in those venues are not independent.  I think kids put some value on that, but not sure if more than picking up bling in a bowl game.  I certainly agree there are ND fans everywhere....but I sure couldn't find them at Stanford just a couple of weeks ago....that small stadium was embarrassingly empty.

I would think the Big 10 and SEC do pretty good for their member teams when it comes to generating income...there had to be a reasons teams worked to get in them and some have to travel great distances to play their games.  I'm not saying ND would increase revenues by going to a conference....I am just saying there are pros and cons of being independent.

I agree.  I think every school has to find what works best for them. I think ND has a pretty good deal with the ACC. Is it perfect? No. However I think it is the best situation available.

Some of the marquis players that are known to be high NFL draft pics.  They seem to be the exception and not the rule.  I would guess the vast, vast majority of players would prefer to play in an additional bowl game vs. sitting at home.

As far as value of being independent vs. being in a conference.....I am not sure one way or the other.  I would think more would be independent if it were truly financially better.

Playing games in Ireland and Green Bay are products of being independent.  They are are in California every year, the criss cross the nation and play in almost every region of the country every 2-3 years.  You have pockets of ND fans everywhere, which contributes to an alumni base that stretches across the country.  Those alumni in turn, donate money for many years.

  7. I am expecting a better Bremen team next year.  The only lost a handful of seniors.  Replacing the Huffman kid will be tough.  He was a 4 year starter, and an All-Stater.  The sophomore class was leaned on a lot this year.  I am looking forward to seeing them grow and develop into juniors.

I used a point system (state 10, semi-state 7, regionals 5, sectionals 3) purely based on championships. The schools I considered were all among the leaders in either sectional, regional, semi-state, or state championships.......using JH's website.
