  1. That's a bummer to hear about Peterson. When I coached CYO, we played against his St. Simon team almost every year. He was a stud and one of the best players in all of CYO. He seemed like a really good kid too. His dad was the St. Simon coach so I'd occasionally talk to him after games/say hi. Hope he has a speedy recovery as I'm sure he has D1 colleges recruiting him and I hope it doesn't hurt his college prospects.
  2. Since your profile shows Cathedral....I absolutely believe you probably know what's going on. Out of curiosity, do you know if there happen to be a bunch of stud freshmen who played for Cathedral this past fall that might not be going their next year and may be going to a place like North Central? I don't know but just have a hunch.
  3. I was skeptical at first but I do believe he knows something most people don't. I'm guessing he knows about there new QB they picked up. Based on that, I'd say they definitely have a chance to compete in 2-3 years.
  4. Not just Roncalli and Chatard. They had Geurin on the schedule for a couple of years as well. I would have loved to see Brebeuf play them with my family ties to both teams, but in general I think the additional travel might be too much. I know it's not that far but when I was playing, the drive to Greensburg always felt like it took forever. Having a couple of games where you travel to and from Indy would have been rough since by the time the game is over you just want to get home and go out with some buddies.
  5. Don’t see it a lot here. What I’m trying to say is it didn’t really effect a 43 yd pass play Brebeuf had but no one talks about that. I’m sure I could rewatch the game and find an instance of a Danville guy being downfield and not being called. There are so many 50/50 calls in any game. Brebeuf had plenty go against them, any single one of those calls not going against them probable leads to Brebeuf being able to run the clock out before Danville has a chance to score with a minute left. Yet all people talk about is the one call at the end of the game but they ignore other calls (or non calls) earlier in the game. Go to 2 hrs 41 minutes and 21 seconds on the broadcast. Here is the link https://www.ihsaatv.org/?B=1460710 Brebeuf receiver gets called with hold. Where the hold is, I have no clue. Terrible call. Yet no one talks about it. If the don’t call it who knows what effect it has on the game. All I’m saying is people seem to only fixate on the call at the end of the game and ignore equally bad calls that if not made, probably mean Brebeuf can run out the clock and win the game in regular time without having to deal with overtime.
  6. I’m not a fan of the call on that fourth down play. That being said, you can’t just look at one bad call in a vacuum. Early on in the game the Danville coach got an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty for going out on the field and confronting the refs on an 4th down play. After that, it seems like the refs were trying to regain control. All night Brebeuf was getting calls against them. Brebeuf is a highly disciplined team on offense. All year they probably had less than 10 holding calls during the season. They had several on Friday. That would be a statistical anamoly. They had a long TD run called back in the third quarter, On the same drive they had another penalty that pushed it to 2nd and 30. Meanwhile a power running team like Danville had maybe one holding call. In the fourth quarter Brebeuf had a 43 yd pass play that got called back for a lineman down field….how often does that get called? The lineman downfield had just about as much of an effect on the play as the kids on danvilles sideline who ran out after the 4th down play in OT. If the refs don’t make that call, then Brebeuf has first down around the Danville 20 and can run several plays and run time off the clock for and Danville probably doesn’t have a chance to score with a minute left and overtime isn’t even a thing. All I’m saying is we fixate on one call at the end of the game when there were plenty of other iffy calls throughout the game that went against Brebeuf and effected how they played the game. There was a reason why they were up 35-14 heading into the fourth. They played a good game as well. They made plenty of mistakes but they had a lot of “bad calls” go against them too, they just weren’t the last one.
  7. They didn’t announce anything but what appeared to happen was Danville was sacking our QB on the last play. He fumbled (although he was pretty close to being down). Refs didn’t blow the whistle and our lineman picked it up and started to get tackled pretty much right away but during that time a handful of Danville players had run out onto the field. They were probably a good 30 yards from the action but probably 10 yds onto the field. Refs had like a 5 minute conference and threw a flag. I was sitting right by the entrance to the press box and the 3-4 Danville coaches in the box had already left to go down on the field while that was all happening.Gave Brebeuf another shot at 4th down and they punched it in. Right before the second fourth down they made Brebeufa qb come off, I have no idea why but they seemed to say it was something with his equipment, so the last play was with the backup qb. All kinds of weird stuff happened on that last sequence.
  8. Yes. Brebeuf made a huge mistake in the first half on clock management at well. They got a first down on Danville 3 yd line with a minute left and went hurry up for some reason. They could have milked time off the clock. They end up scoring but the extra time allowed Danville to get a Hail Mary as time expired in the first half. Game should have been 21-7 at half of Brebeuf did better clock management but ended up 21-14.
  9. Brebeuf game was insane
  10. I'm guessing this game will go like all Brebeuf games, a ton of points on both sides. At this point, teams know they are going to have to score 50+ against Brebeuf to have a chance, so most teams go for it every time unless they are really backed up on the field. Brebeuf goes for it pretty much every time too knowing they don't have much of a punting game and have probably the best offense in 4A. Brebeuf's D is bad but the offense is amazing. I think Geske leads the state in Passing yards and CJ Harris is something like 4th in the state in rushing yds. It's a pick your poison situation on how you defend them. They had a 2 game stretch against Terre Haute South and Bloomington South where they scored a TD on every single possession. They have 1 common opponent in Tri-West who Danville beat 36-35 in OT and Brebeuf beat 27-7 in one half (called at halftime due to lightning). Football math doesn't always work out like that but I think Brebeuf wins this one in a high scoring game. Brebeuf has played a pretty tough schedule with two 6A teams, three 5A teams, Chatard, Roncalli, and two decent 3A teams and came out with a 7-2 record. I think they win something like 56-45.
  11. Haven't seen them play but according to my son they run wing T about 50% of the time and go 3 wide 50% of the time. Apparently, they have a lot of size at receiver/TE and a big RB. He said their starting QB got injured and they now have a sophomore QB. I wouldn't be surprised if they go heavy wing T against Brebeuf since we don't have a lot of size and given a younger QB. I think he said they have a pretty big D line as well but I don't think that really matters too much in this game. Having a ton of speed on D is way more important against a team like Brebeuf who spreads it out so much.
  12. I think that one started at 7:30. I think it ended between 10:30-11. Most of the Brebeuf games have been going an hour or so longer than the average games because of all the scoring and associated clock stoppages for extra points and kickoffs. I usually check in on this website during games and I’ll see people posting final scores and we will just be starting the 3rd quarter. That happened in the Guerin and Bloomington south game as well. I know it was after midnight when we got home from both of those games.
  13. Yes but I’m not sure it would even matter. It’s not like we make stops early in the game when people are fresh then fall apart later. We get scored on all game. I really think the biggest problem is we have basically no juniors. The varsity starters are pretty much all seniors and sophomores. Most of the sophomores could use another year to develop and would be able to if we had a normal size junior class. But we have a lot of guys who go thrown into the fire by necessity (especially on defense). It’s pretty telling for me because my son dresses both varsity and JV. We don’t have a freshmen team because we don’t have enough for both a JV and freshman team. That’s because we don’t have many juniors so sophomores play up and freshmen play JV. When we played Chatards JV team, they had about 45 players (keep in mind they have a freshmen team as well). When we played Geurin they had about 45 players on the JV team (they don’t have a freshman team). We have about 25 guys on the JV team. We don’t have a lot of “big guys” so the ones we have play oline and not dline. I wish we had better numbers because that would really help us.
  14. I’ve watched all their games. Pound for pound, they probably have the best offense in the state. The last two games they have scored a TD on every drive (except for kneel downs on the last drive). The two games where they scored under 30 were because one game got called at half due to lightning (tri west) and the other was played in a monsoon (Roncalli). And it’s not like they are playing cupcakes or small teams. They have played the largest school in the state, another 6A team, two 5A teams, Chatard, Roncalli, and two 3a teams. The offense is unreal. This is while being one of the smallest teams in 4A. That being said, we might have the worst defense in 4A. Part of the problem is we just don’t have a ton of players. The roster is like 60 guys. Of that, about 25 are freshmen. The biggest problem is there are only like 6 juniors on the team. So the defense starts 4 sophomores and has very little depth. We also don’t have a very big d line, so it’s pretty easy to run on us. If Brebeuf just had a mediocre defense, they’d be the best team in 4A. If they had an average defense, they’d be unbeatable in 4A. Unfortunately they don’t but they still have a chance. It basically boils down to if they can get a turnover or two each game. If they can luck into a couple turnovers, the offense can usually win it for them. It also helps that their special teams aren’t that great so they don’t even bother with field goals or punts (unless it’s really deep in their territory). So they go into each drive with the mindset of having 4 plays to get a first down.
  15. Brebeuf 40 - Bloomington South 29 at halftime Brebeuf has now scored a TD on every drive they’ve had the last 6 quarters (with the exception of taking knees on the last drive of the game last week).
