  1. LCC is good, South Adams is good, It will be a good game. Excited to watch it.... Boom, back on track. Pulling for sectional 42 and Region 4 to be back in Lucas Oil next weekend.
  2. CP has a much higher number of students from Frankfort than from the East side. I honestly couldn't tell you anyone at the HS from the district on the East side of the county but I am sure there are a few. We also don't run a bus into downtown Frankfort to pick up students who are out of our district. Our School board recently approved a cap that would eliminate out of district transfers in grades that have 100 students currently enrolled due to building and classroom limitations. Their are plenty of talks of housing addition in district that will limit most if not all transfers in the future unless a building project is done quickly. CP current enrolment is down about 20 off of the 380 that was stated. Will be interesting few years on the west side of Clinton county and the developments that take place at 28 and 65 intersection. There is some potential to explode with in district student numbers that could push CP out of the 1a conversation completely.
  3. I think the biggest concern initially is that the health dept and the health director have already set a precedent with an county school on how to handle the situation with regard to a close contact. By making a complete reversal with no reasons or ability to discuss with anyone outside of a closed room is not the transparency that many on here talk about wanting their local governments and schools to have. Even with covid a lot of things must of changed in those two weeks to go from letting a group get tests to keep tournament hope alive to not even considering or looking at multiple angles of film to determine who may or may not be considered a close contact. At the end of the day we have 20 kids out do to "close contact" many of which never came with in 5-10 yards of the individual. They are out of school and isolated away from peers unnecessarily and no one would even look to give them a chance or time to consider their level of contact. Its is to late for our team who I personally feel got the short end of the stick. I hope though that discussions can be had in the near future in our county, and maybe yours, to come ups with ways to help kids stay in school and give them opportunities that our team was denied.
  4. This is an unfortunate decision that was made for our kids and our community on Tuesday afternoon. We learned of a case that was stated to positive on Monday afternoon involving a player who played about half of the games live plays. It has been deemed on our end that any player who was on the field, (making contact with the other player or not) must quarantine for 14 days. Our health dept. weighted very heavily on this as well as out county Doctor. It was stated very early on this week that no test will allow an individual to returned. Unfortunate because a cross county team was able to do this for volleyball about 2 weeks ago by our county health dept. If the 6 foot rule were in place like in a classroom setting, we would of lost 4-5 players who were in the bubble at any point. If there was a 25 or less second contact rule instead of the 15 minutes we would be at ZERO players. Our kids have handled the situation with a ton of respect and understanding tough many are very hurt as they have grown tremendously over the year and felt we could compete to win for our schools first sectional title.
  5. Not many things could beat a cool crisp evening down at Turkey Run High School in the WRC. The smell of camp fires from the camp grounds just across the way and a setting sun. Being able to shake the hands of your fans behind you and the official doing the game at the same time.
  6. Having coached in many 1a games we, love the work done by all the officials that have worked these games and put in time in to help better our sport! We have started a class this school year "Advanced Team Sports" that is going to focus on helping seniors work to become licensed in sports that they play. By doing the sport in class we will work some of the mechanics of the specific sport, help the students with rules and interpretations, and how to handle issues with fans. We have had contact through the IHSAA who has been very helpful and has helped pass along some materials to help in teach the class. We are planning to have the students do some youth games in the area to get first hand experience. Goal is to have them graduate and be able to officiate next year in the sports that they have chosen.
  7. One idea we have had at our school is to try and recruit officials for all sports from within out halls. We have looked at creating a class in the PE department that will look at team sports, rules, and game play. This class will hopefully be on the schedule for next school year. One part of this class will be helping students with the skills and information needed to take and pass officiating tests to allow them to be licensed officials after they have graduated. We have a lot of students who love the sport but may not want to or be able to play at the next level. Giving them this skill and comfort level in knowing rules, situations, and how to handle situations with coaches and fans will hopefully draw a new and youthful group to officiating in all sports. The goal it to have them look at two or three sports they may be interested in to help add depth to the officiating pool.
