  1. Not related to current off season conversations, but I just saw this story on my feed. It seems there should be an exception made in this case. He was just 1 win away from eligibility. https://247sports.com/article/mike-leach-absolutely-deserves-college-football-hall-of-fame-spot-despite-ineligibility-lincoln-riley-says-232922689/?fbclid=IwZXh0bgNhZW0CMTEAAR2KFx1fMnmOaAHX-ViVar_MMwgB8VdQvO1dLnIVy4VqZqal7lh7xBinmzs_aem_ZmFrZWR1bW15MTZieXRlcw
  2. You sure this is the Heritage in NE Indiana? Or is this what you are seeing? https://www.rockdalenewtoncitizen.com/sports/heritage-hires-ryan-andrews-as-new-head-football-coach/article_d5c2b682-a7cf-11ec-8476-3b24d3aedd3f.html
  3. I saw that too, but feel he jumped too soon. Stay at ISU, have another great year, and even bigger paydays will come. Going from ISU with some history and always a great crowd to St. Louis, with none of that??? Could be a dead end road for his path up.
  4. for ISU though, the BBall coach move to St. Louis is an odd move; not even a lateral move. he is going to quickly find out, along with the players who joined him there that last season was a once in a lifetime shot. They will not be the darlings of college basketball they were last season. I will be interested in seeing the game when St. Louis plays AT ISU.
  5. Still remember during an IU game last season, Joel Klatt put it best. Programs like IU will be more like a minor league program. Guys will sign and play with the hopes of a better offer after a year at the D1 level. Guys who are not starters in those programs will move to a program they can become a starter and prove their value. I don't envy a coach like Cignetti. His team will be more competitive than IU has been, but to what end? When key players can transfer easily.
  6. Love this
  7. The man in the logo, Mr. Clutch passed away. https://www.nba.com/news/jerry-west-passes-away-at-86
  8. All true, but the NCAA waited until the ball was rolling. They could have/should have done something years and even decades ago.
  9. In a previous post, I made the comment that there was potential for Michigan and Ohio State to play 3 times in one season. I am willing to wager a few teams will not be there when the regular season is over.
  10. God I hope not. It was bad enough having to hear THAT song after every run they scored; not just in this series with Evansville, but also with IU.
  11. And the IHSAA has FAR fewer resources available to monitor and investigate those issues.
  12. I think most people, myself included are ok if it were just about kids earning money doing commercials and ads, but I also think many of us can see how it can quickly spiral out of control.
  13. Playoff TV Schedule. I figured the major bowls would be used for games in the playoff. What I don't see in any articles is that every effort would be made to make sure a lower seeded team does not end up in a bowl game in the hometown, or State. Probably would have been a better move to assign the bowls to particular games after the matchups are set. https://www.cbssports.com/college-football/news/2024-25-college-football-playoff-schedule-dates-kickoff-times-channels-for-11-games-national-championship/ Here is a better visual.
  14. OK, I think this is REALLY cool and impressive. An Olympic pool is covering the floor of LOS for the upcoming US Olympic Trials. 2 Million gallons of water in a temporary structure. https://www.indystar.com/story/sports/olympics/2024/06/05/how-an-olympic-swimming-pool-was-built-inside-lucas-oil-stadium/73769585007/?fbclid=IwZXh0bgNhZW0CMTAAAR2_4LoOqD1mj2UreRDRjOa4PIeEi0lMvIEL-KUKYbxs1cydNhGoUt5DUn4_aem_AdzNEqEFJSijLHmzgXYqPKdyFMdAqgiEjoY70W5qR3glCfpowS1tl2_3HA09c1xlvslk5RQycpNN94QlZPb3iXtz If you are out of free views of IndyStar, here are links on social media https://www.facebook.com/share/p/W5nNgC1ZjRHxfqda/
  15. I think this is the first lifetime ban for the NBA. Just confirmed it is the first one.
  16. I agree in large part, but think about travel/club influence. Several years ago, there was an instance where a travel team tried to influence an athlete. The travel club had signed on with one shoe/gear maker, but the school the player attended had signed on with a different shoe provider. There was another high school close by that contracted with the same provider as the travel club. The area rep for that brand was trying to get the player to transfer. It ended up being a case of undue influence. But as you said, the IHSAA is not equipped to monitor or handle things on that level. The impact would be felt most in areas where multiple schools are in close proximity. And yes, most programs break even, this would certainly favor ones that are in solid financial shape. Something else that could factor into this is the IHSAA considering allowing students a one time transfer after freshman year.
  17. It seems like there are a few State roads that a number of high schools are close to. The route Gipper mentioned, and one I noticed several years ago was along SR 32.
  18. Sorta.....But I don't think it is anywhere near ready to step into that role. There are just 241 NAIA schools while there are over 1,000 NCAA schools. Since I typed it, I am much more in favor of the amateur sports organizations governing each sport.
  19. I was messaging back and forth with @stryker while I was on Spring Break in Florida when he said this was coming; and here it is. Florida is the latest State to approve NIL money to be paid to high school athletes. While college athletics will never be the same again, and I am not sure how long things will last on the current track. With this, I think State associations will have to be much more involved in monitoring students moving, and the likelihood of undue influence. At least Florida is banning people from forming groups like a booster club to collect money to funnel to players. I have doubts though that they have the ability to really monitor it though. There are over 500 schools in Florida. How many people work for the FHSAA? https://www.nbcmiami.com/news/local/florida-high-school-athletic-association-approves-student-athlete-nil-rules/3328346/#:~:text=good starting point.”-,The FHSAA's Board of Directors voted unanimously to approve a,for the upcoming school year. "The FHSAA’s Board of Directors voted unanimously to approve a seismic change in the organization’s bylaws to allow athletes to be compensated for their name, image and likeness, or NIL. The changes will be in effect for the upcoming school year." also FTA: "As of October, 30 states and the District of Columbia allow high-school athletes to “receive NIL compensation,” according to the revamped bylaws approved Tuesday." How long before it comes to Indiana?
  20. For the D1 level, I agree. For non scholarship schools and non revenue sports, I still see a place for an association to oversee them. One thing that will become an issue as NIL and simply paying athletes to play is going to be staying in compliance with Title IX. The NCAA only has itself to blame for anything that happens now. One other possibility for those sports would be to let the amateur governing bodies direct them. One example, USA Track and Field would run Track and Field at the collegiate levels.
  21. They beat East Carolina twice too. They won today after losing to them last night.
  22. Dominant run through the postseason, capped off with handing Maryland a 15-5 whooping.
  23. The one line from Band of Brothers stands out. When Sobel ignores the salute by Winters, Winters says we salute the rank, not the person. Sobel then stops to salute. Seems to fit here.
