Watching ESPN's Gameday. Herbstreit just explained the playoff format. One HUGE flaw in the system is there will be no reseeding. I was surprised to see that.

Yep, should have been CG’s ball there. Here is my question though. It’s hard to tell from this angle, but if the ball crossed the goal line when it was tapped back, is it a touchback? It looks to me like it did cross the line. And if it did cross the line, then the tap back does not come into play; should have been blown dead once the ball crossed the plane of the goal line. I am thinking the concept of where the ball is and not the player is the factor in other kicks being called a touchback or not. Or does possession factor in?

I am pretty sure it would. I remember reading a scenario once that a player on a punt team taps the ball, a player on the return team picks it up and runs for about 15 yards and fumbles it, and the punt team recovers. The ruling was that the return team had the option of taking the ball at the spot the player on the punt team first touched it. The key is the punt team must have control of the ball. Not sure if my verbiage is exact, but you get the gist of it; that you are correct. Pretty sure I am missing something about the punt team touching it first being some type of illegal touching, but no flag is thrown. Similar scenario in a game I was an assistant in. We punt, cover it well, and our kids lazily slap at the ball and guys start running off the field. I see one guy running toward the ball, and I am saying in the headset 'that's a live ball' over and over and over and over again. the return team scored a TD. When coaches asked if I was sure, I said YEP, and then I asked, did any of you hear a whistle?

I don't think anyone tracks individual transfers, but you can always find updates for total number of them on the IHSAA website. Go to the About Us link and click on Meeting Minutes. The Executive Committee pdf posts total transfers. This is a screen shot from the June 20 meeting and has total transfers from June 1, 2023 through May 31, 2024.

As far as the Oregon discussion goes, they will be the quickest to adapt to the new conference. I said this when NIL started; Oregon is the team to watch. As much money as we see in the SEC programs, no one comes close for what Oregon has available with Nike execs that are alums. I still feel the current path lasts 5 years tops, and Oregon will be one of the leaders in driving it to some sort of professional league.

I mentioned this a while back that scholarships will likely be replaced by contracts. And as Bob said, that leads to them becoming employees. I guess an NIL deal could have those considerations from a company not connected to the school. But I think if a school adds that requirement, it becomes more of a contract.

Boxing has been an Olympic sport since 1904, with the exception of 1912 where the sport was illegal in Sweden. Women's boxing first appeared in the London Games of 2012.

The world is catching up. From the WSJ: "In 1992, Team USA had 11 NBA players; the entire rest of the tournament, just nine. In the semifinal and final rounds, they faced Lithuania and Croatia—who had a total of three NBA players between them." From NBA.com "A record 139 current and former NBA and WNBA players are featured on national team rosters for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris. The men's and women's 5-on-5 competitions will feature a record 81 and record 51 current and former players, respectively." So, 20 players from the NBA in 92 to 81 in 2024 (there were 12 teams in this year's Olympics)
