Man, today is the day, can Snider add to their storied tradition or can pull off the big one. I think this will be a close game.
Even though I am a Penn fan I love Snider football.
My bias says Snider 27 Decatur Central 20
IF, Snider wins, looking forward to possible renewal of Penn vs Snider in sectional or regional !!

Question to the group, did Crown Point lose to Merrillville earlier in the season 39-6? The string indicates that they are 13-0. If this is in fact true, I hope they have improved since then!
CP beat the Ville 39-6

We will just have to disagree on that
Yep, I think so too. I think Carroll for some reason did play to expectations this year, Did the get caught in "the year before" trap??

Yes, but do you think they are better than Carroll?
I would say probably a toss up

Warren Central played BD Tough, Snider Whipped Warren Central, Snider barely survived Mishawaka. Penn easily beat Mishawaka, Crown Point Barely beat Penn. Does this mean CP and BD are about even? No Transitive Properties do not work in football.
I'm thinking if Penn and Mishawaka played later in the regular season, different game. I feel the first 1-2 games of the season are not a true indication of how season will go sometimes, maybe more so, than not??

Really?? Snider will be the best team DC has played this year by a good margin and I am absolutely positive nobody from Snider has said anything negative about DC. Having said that, DC is not the best team Snider has played this year and I can assure you, they have played teams bigger, stronger, and faster than DC. Snider will come ready to play
Aren't Bloomington North and South good? But, wondering why DC lost to Whiteland and Martinsville, and seemed to struggle with Perry Meridian. Injury to key players ??

How many multi sports athletes are there anymore at the 4,5, and 6A level?
A lot, I have no data to support that, but I'm betting close to 50% of players on a football team play another sport

Dumbest.Idea.Ever. I can't believe a State actually does that. I mean, it makes sense for the biggest schools ...what you are describing is essentially their State tournament anyway.
But let's say you are a once-in-a-lifetime class and you have a chance to win your 4A title - but then the State elects you to play up against Center Grove. That is suppose to be rewarding?!?
There would be way to much Indy bias with this system. JMO

Here is what I see for the Success Factor changes in football for the 2024 & 2025 seasons. Please correct me if I am wrong. (This has been UPDATED AFTER the Semistate games were played.)
1A - Lutheran 7+pts will be moved up to 2A.
Adams Central 6+pts will move up to 2A.
2A - LCC 3+pts will remain in 2A.
FW Luers 5+pts will move up to 3A if they win State.
3A - Chatard 7+pts will move up to 4A.
4A - East Central 7+pts will move up to 5A.
Ev Memorial 2pts* will drop back to 3A. (*due to change made by IHSAA in July '23)
5A - FW Snider 5+pts will move up to 6A if they win State.
6A - Cathedral 3pts will remain in 6A.
So the only remaining unknowns involve FW Snider & FW Luers...
Adams Central may be back-to-back runner-up but still moved up to 2A. Personally, I don't like this as I feel a school without a State Championship should not be bumped up.
If Snider bumps up, who drops down, school with lowest enrollment I would think?

Saw DC play Harrison in sectional championship. Quick backs with decent amount of misdirection. Get to the outsides quickly after drawing outside linebackers in. Outside backers/ends have to play disciplined ball or they'll run up and down the field on you. Workhorse is Berry and you'll see him a bunch in the middle. Dodo is really fast and gets to outside quickly. Just when you've finally figured out what they'll do, Polston takes off with the ball.
Passing game isn't great ... QB rating's in the 80s, but they are effective. Don't throw a bunch of long balls, but tend to get a a lot of +1 passes off ... i.e., on 3 and 5, the pass is getting 6 or 7, if it's 3rd and 3, the pass is getting 4 or 5. Do have to watch for the long ball though as, they do have a play when they get your safeties looking into the backfield after a few running plays in a row and then sneak a back downfield for a long ball. Matter of fact, Berry put up over 140 yards rushing on Harrison and got his lone TD on a long pass play ... his only catch of the game.
Kicker is really good. Expect touchbacks most of the night. Expect 2 out of every three kickoffs to be on-the-fly touchbacks. Most of the rest are going to see the receiver fielding the ball around the 5 or so. Leads 5A in the state in both kickoff ranking and kick scoring ranking and is #2 in PAT percentage.
Sounds like Snider will have their hands full. I'll go Snider by 6

Don't need two threads for one game. Can one be merged into another or deleted?

Game needs to be discussed. I know nothing about Decatur Central. What are their strengths and weaknesses??

He is a senior and a State Champ. He played at Andrean freshman and sophomore years. Started as a Sophomore. Transferred to Merrillville last season. I think is getting D2 looks.
Good for him, hope he recovers well. Odd that the main guy for Mishawaka went out last week after first few plays.

I haven’t had time yet to watch. I’ll let you know. It sounds like Merrillville held up well until late 3rd quarter vs high scoring Snider team. Probably didn’t help Pirates when they lost Stephens in 1st quarter. Arguably, one of their better players and not that would have changed outcome.I was always concerned with Merrillville offense. QB is average at best. They needed to establish the run to have a chance. Obviously that didn’t happen.
Yea, I know it hurts when team loses key player like that earlier in game. Is he back next year? The M-ville QB hit a few good throws, certainly had some bad throws as well. That may have played into Sniders plan, letting him throw the ball vs blitzing alot. Kind of like basketball, let the poor shooter open for the 3 pointers. It seemed too that Snider D front could rush 3-4 and still get pressure on QB.
Interested in your thoughts on game.

Congrats to Snider and good luck in Indy. The better team won!
I was at the CP vs Westfield game so I have not watched the Snider vs Merrillville game replay. From what I gather from other posts and newspaper articles, Merrillville D played well but offensive struggled. Not surprised by either.
Good season for Merrillville nothing to be ashamed of.
I would be interested in your thoughts after you watch the game. I'm not saying this just because Snider won, but it looked as if Snider had more talent across the O & D positions, maybe that is why they won?? I think Merrillville was some players going back next year, so if they can reload at some spots, they will be in mix next year as well. Things that I think made the difference was Sniders D handled the game well, their O line handled Merrillville's D line and Billingsley is a true dual threat.

In my opinion, Merrillville has to keep it low scoring to win. Will not win in a shootout.
Merrillville 21-17.
Merrillville speed? One of their strengths, is team speed especially on defense. They fly to the ball. Not the biggest defense but fast and athletic. Front 4 are good.
Don't know my friend. I think Snider speed was way better. Billingsley speed smoked em, IMO

Snider 28 - Merrillville 0, final
Panthers defense basically shut down the Pirates offense throughout the game. Rohrbacher for Snider had like 20 tackles and set the all time Snider record for career tackles, Logan had his 4th pick 6 of the year to seal the game.
Merrillville’s defense was really good and kept them in the game until late 3rd quarter, but their offense just couldn’t move the ball. Buchanan for Snider had 3 TD’s though the Pirate defense did well on him. Billingsley hurt the Pirates continuously on QB keepers
Yea, Snider D speed was great. Rohrbacher, Logan and Fry play was huge. Blakey was a beast. On the O side of the ball Billingsley was difference most of game. I would say Snider had way more speed than Merrillville. All the boys from "Da Region" where hanging their hat on their city speed 🙂
