Saw a team picture of South Bend Clay football team on twitter.  They have 29 players in the picture and 7 coaches.   A great 4.1/1 player to coach ratio.  The players should get a lot of individual instruction.  Clay should be added to the list for contraction.  DT I'm with you 100% on contrtaction.

Any idea how many players were on the squad last year?

Easton grad Mike Hackett did not apply for the recently filled Michigan City High School boys basketball head coach position because I was told he makes 6 figures at Munster and did not want to take a pay cut.

I definitely don’t make 6 figures but when I left Michigan City to teach in crown Point I immediately made more (not a ton) money in CP without coaching than I did in MC coaching 2 sports. Gotta do what’s best for you and your family

For this year, you'd have to think Michigan City will likely run into Snider or Dwenger at semi-state.  New Pal lurking in the south.

Look for Valparaiso to make a run in two years.  Dropping from 6A to 5A, the community has been talking about this particular class for quite some time.

Heard Valpo has a stud 6'6" soph who's getting D1 offers already in both football and bball. Seems like things are on the up and up in Valpo

The new superintendent hiring was sketchy and this is just another issue for the SB schools

How much will you actually be savings?  How do you handle daily student issues and athletics?

Seems like a big issue to me and makes no sense

Exactly what I was thinking. I would assume an AD and a Dean would make comparable salaries plus benefits. So they still have to pay someone to fill that role, and what are the chances they'll have more academics on their plates instead of athletics. Makes me wonder if other schools will be reluctant to schedule games vs SB schools....

  5. Been a drive instructor in NW Indiana for almost 10 years now, and I could probably write a book on what I've seen out there on the roads. Besides experience I think technology is one of the biggest factors involving accidents and lack of awareness. Texting and checking out social media seems to be more important than arriving somewhere safely. I also think there are a lot more drivers, everyone's in a rush, and have a lot less patience and courtesy when it comes to other drivers on the road. Kids as passengers also don't pay attention like we used to when we were younger, they are either on their phone or tablet and when it comes time for them to start driving they seem to be lacking from a road awareness stand point. It starts at home with good modeling from parent drivers, but there are also more single parent households where kids just don't get that time behind the wheel before they get their license which is so beneficial.

I had a kid from Wheeler HS, who I had driven 2 or 3 times at the end of the summer or beginning of this school year. I probably told him at least 10 times on each of those drives watch your speed, you need to slow down, or actually used my brake on him. Drove him again later in the fall, and he was extremely cautious with his speed. What changed? Was it me repeating over and over to watch his speed? No. A girl leaving his school was involved in a 1 car crash, going well over the speed limit (in a 35 zone) lost control and hit a tree head on. That was what it took for him to realize he needs to watch his speed. Unfortunate it takes a loss of life for the reality to hit home for some of these kids.

Laville, Triton, Knox, Culver Community, Winamac, Pioneer, North Judson, Caston

Pretty competitive small school conference. Bremen and Glenn would add to that but is that in their best interest? Just curious what other options has Bremen talked about?

Without knowing specifics it seems that conference is a better fit for Bremen and Glenn at least from a competitive stand point.

  7. What is the pool of applicants for some of these jobs? I wouldn't think that Gavit and SB Washington are highly sought after positions, maybe I'm wrong but I wouldn't think a lot of guys are interested in taking over a program that might not even be around in a few years.  Maybe taking a chance on a successful middle school coach who knows the kids coming up is an easier choice than taking a coach from the outside.
