  1. Excited for the new commits, Blake Fisher and Tyler Buchner just 2 of many good signings for the Irish, who did a good job addressing needs in the defensive secondary, offensive line, and wide receiver position. Testament to the staff as well for maybe only losing 1 commit after the news broke of Clark Lea becoming next head coach of Vanderbilt. Prince Kollie, lb from Nashville, was a huge get and keep that I was worried about possibly decommitting. Who knows that the future holds but like what I see so far from this years class

  2. With the Big Ten changing their rules as they go maybe the ACC should cancel their championship to allow both Clemson and ND to make the playoffs!!! Just kidding of course about cancelling that game. But with the Big Ten playing a much shorter season and allowing Ohio State into their title game (and presumably the playoffs) I don't want to hear anymore about ND only playing 12 games and not playing in a conference championship game. I don't believe ND stays in the ACC long term, and I understand this year is unlike any other, but ND's normal schedule is much tougher than this year's ACC slate.

The Mishawaka Cavemen play in Frank M. Steele Stadium.

Steele was Mishawaka’s Coach 1924-1932 and his Cavemen claimed 2 mythical state championships (’25 and ’26).

He was the Mishawaka High School Athletic Director 1934-1952 and then served as the head of the Department of Health, Physical Education and Safety for the Mishawaka School Corporation until his retirement in 1960.

The stadium was built (completed)  in 1939.

Beat me to it, one of the best stadiums in the state IMO

  4.  Doesn't seem fair to these other teams who have played 9+ games to let in a team into the playoff who has only played 5 games. Perhaps this opens the door for Indiana, Texas A&M, Florida, Cincinnati to sneak into the playoff this year. Lot can happen between now and next Saturday

The Irish had a lackluster first half and a better second half, especially defensively, in their win over North Carolina.  They need to play better overall if they do make it to the CFB playoffs.  Book's back handed flip to freshman TE Mayer was one for the books!

I was really impressed with the defense on Saturday. Say what you want about North Carolina but that offense is really good. They scored on I think their first 2 drives, and then ND loses arguably their best defensive player (Safety Kyle Hamilton for targeting) and the defense gives up 3 points the rest of the way. Offense looked good despite missing 2 starting OL, Book keeps playing well and receivers getting better too. Gonna be a fun rematch with Clemson in a few weeks, hopefully the Irish can get past Syracuse and Wake Forest first.

Anyone who watches the games wonder or know why Kyle Hamilton leaves the field for goal line defense? I noticed that again this week (before the ejection obviously) but also saw in the game vs Clemson he comes off the field. Also, I really hope Vanderbilt doesn't come and take away DC Clark Lea for their head coaching job. I know it's only a matter of time before he takes the next step but I wish the Irish could hang onto him for a few more years....

  6. I really thought Jim Harbaugh would be home run hire for Michigan, but it just hasn't happened. I mean he's had success in college, NFL, and is a "Michigan" man that I thought would have great success. I thought I read somewhere that JH suffers from memory loss and shows signs of CTE and I wonder if that has effected his coaching ability. I don't know where they turn to from here, it's still Michigan and I'd think they'd have a lot of applicants to go through. Do they turn to an up and comer or someone who's had P5 or NFL success? Or do they stick it out one more year and give him a pass due to 2020 being 2020?

The LC- Munster rivalry used to be one of the Regions best.

Its an absolute crap show right now.  These two schools are very closely connected both geographically, culturally, and in every way.  Any link that you can find between the two relative to their steep downturns in football?

Munster's a basketball and tennis school currently while LC is solid in basketball and baseball?

Yeah, I'm not up to speed on all things snobbery in South Bend, but didn't he catch Covid from attending a DC gathering?

He did, but when you only win of these big game every 25 years or so students are going to storm the field, pandemic or not. But I also read or heard that all students at the game were tested earlier in the week to be allowed into the game. Regardless, covid report yesterday for the ND football team showed only 2 cases which must have been positive cases before the Clemson game since the report said that the 2 players were not at the game on Saturday. So take that for what it's worth until the next report comes out...

  9. It's unfortunate that Trevor Lawrence isn't going to play, but that news along with stud DE Xavier Thomas missing the first half for targeting gives ND a better chance to win. ACC football is not very good, ND has the best defense Clemson will have seen and Clemson is by far the best team ND will have seen. But as much as I've been anticipating this weekend's game, the only game that will matter will be the game in December. If ND doesn't slip up (BC, NC) these 2 teams should meet in the ACC championship with the winner moving to the playoffs. By then I'm sure Clemson will be at full strength. ND has a great defense and a solid running game along with offensive line, but the passing game is what makes me worried. Clemson is just on another level, and when they lose players they have a backup 5 start QB and a backup 5 star DL to replace them with. You'd think at some point ND will win a "big" game (Miami, Michigan, Georgia, Clemson, Alabama) and I hope Saturday is it, there's a lot going in ND's favor. But it's Tuesday and who knows what will happen between now and then.

Positive Covid-19 virus test at Valpo.        Valpo loses the game with Crown Point and the one with Merrillville.

Biggest game in many years up here.....Valpo has long regular season and DAC winning streaks...

Both teams have multiple D-1 senior players.

There will be no playoff meeting obviously.   (last weeks cancelled Lowell-Hobart game could happen in 4A Sectional 17)

.....I'm more worried about positive tests next month which would end teams seasons.

.......What can I say?    Play each game like its your last, kids.

Would have loved to see Valpo/Mville under normal circumstances with full, healthy lineups. It's a shame, but welcome to 2020

  11. Kiser played great, got the game ball. Had 8 tackles or so and always seemed to be around the ball.
My 2 takeaways from this game were

    1. South Florida is really, really bad

    2. The depth at Notre Dame has come so far, especially on defense. Had ND missed 7 or 8 guys the day before a game In years past it would normally be a scary situation. Granted USF is not very good but I saw a lot of young, first time guys making plays which was fun to watch.

Thoughts on Charlie Weis Career Arc?

Really think he could of made more hay in NFL but he did get PAID................TWICE..................and could still be getting paid by both ND and Kansas

Great offensive mind obviously, wasn’t ready to be a head coach let alone head coach at ND. Was able to bring in top talent but IMO didn’t really progress those players once on campus. In a side note, Charlie Weis Jr is an up and comer in OC ranks, and his south Florida team comes to south bend tomorrow.  Sounds like he’s going to be a head coach sooner than later.

Lou Holtz at South Carolina. Gerry Faust at Akron.
I do think at some point, Kelly will be lured away to an NFL team.

I think the NFL ship has sailed for BK, and with this latest extension thru 2024 ND will be his final landing spot.

As for the topic, I think an original NFL franchise like the bears would be really hard to turn down. I think it really depends on if the coach likes the recruiting aspect of the college game. As a fan of both teams I don’t think you could go wrong at either place but as of this moment I think ND may be trending a little better than the Bears.

  14. Lots of things to like after this game and obviously some areas to work on. RB Williams looked good and the freshman TE Mayer will be a handful. Chris Tyree showed explosiveness that the offense needs. Defense settled in after the 1st qtr, Foskey had a huge game, Owusu-Koramoah showed why he’s a future 1st round pick at lb and hopefully Kyle Hamilton ankle is what BK says and is only an ankle sprain because he is a legitimate difference maker any position he plays (safety, nickel, goal line cb).

Biggest concerns are the OL and qb play. I was surprised at how well duke dominated the LOS against the returning offensive line of notre dame, especially early. To have all 5 starters back up front and only have like 4 yards of offensive after 3 possessions is troublesome. Needing a fake punt run on 4th and 8 to get your offfense going is concerning. And Book didn’t look or play the way you’d want a 3rd year starter to look like. I think a lot of this has to do with 1. Duke having a good game plan and giving the Irish looks they weren’t prepared for 2. Book playing with all new skilled position players 3. 1st game type action since the bowl game.

I know some fans just can’t believe how bad book and the line played, how they only beat duke by 14. IMO I’ll take the win any time, they improved and made adjustments as needed and pulled away final half if not 3 quarters. Lot to be excited about, just need to keep improving and hopefully stay healthy.
