  1. Kind of a boring game, think that had to do with Virginia’s starting quarterback being out. Irish got on top and were never threatened. You guys are right, while most teams keep their foot on the gas BK likes to go conservative and play it safe, at least in my opinion. I love Kyren Williams, he is so damn tough to bring down and run to watch. Also liked what I saw from the young safeties converted from cornerback/wide receiver  (Ramon Henderson and Xavier Watts). They’ll be needed next season. And the frosh rb Diggs could be a beast next year replacing Williams. Irish should finish 11-1 and go to a good bowl and hopefully win it!!! I think when it’s all said and done ND will be one of the final 2 out.

On another note, could this be one of the easiest schedules Notre Dame has ever had?

Any Lowell fans on here have any insight on how Lowell has changed since week 3?. Any must stop places to eat nearby?

Not sure about on the field but off the field Lowell doesn’t have a ton of restaurants. George’s right across the street from the high school has an 8 page menu of just about everything. Mi Ranchito is a Mexican restaurant not too far down the road from the high school. Other than that you may need to stop and eat in crown point or merrillville which both have more options and aren’t too far away (cp like like 10 minutes from the square to Lowell HS)

Yesterday vs. Navy was the first time I’ve seen Jack Coan play live. He clearly has limitations. He’s a serviceable QB, but no more. He took 2 drive-killing sacks, and both were absolutely his fault. Both times he had unblocked rushers at the line of scrimmage pre-snap and didn’t get out of the play, change the protection, or get the ball to a hot receiver. I watched his head on pass plays and he clearly locks on his target at the snap and is not going through progressions very often. Half of his completions were to running backs. His chief asset is he doesn’t turn it over. He’s not going to lose games for them, but he’s not going to win any, either. He’s a placeholder until Kelly’s willing to trust the freshman Buchner with the ball on the minus side of the 50.

The defense really impressed me, holding navy under 200 yards of offense and out of the end zone. Albeit against a backup quarterback for a half the Irish defense played assignment correct.

Have not seen Jack coan play live but it’s painful when you see a blitz coming that you think coan should see coming and he somehow does not. Happens at least twice a game.

Brohm would be wise to parlay his success this season into a jump to the NFL.

I wonder about this too. Or another college program

Well , you maybe on to something here.
Brohm has been up and down at Purdue, but he may be righting the ship? But Does he have NFL ambitions? Purdue is like Indiana, for prospective coaches, a tough job to take.

Good question, and would the nfl be interested in him I wonder….

I looked up Hanover’s boundaries with LC, Crown Point, and Lowell. I didn’t realize a portion of St. John is in Hanover’s district. Is the southern  suburban push in Lake County projected to bump Hanover up to a 4A/5A school at some point?

Lot of growth in cedar lake and st john so yes IMO they will be moving up at some point

Ha..sorry! Just thought about Auburn. Are they an option because he wants to also play baseball in college?

Yes, he wants to pursue both. I think it’s notre dame

Hanover Central has a great young coach who has done a wonderful job there. But I think LC got a good guy with their hire, and I think that program will rebound.

There’s about a 15/20 minute driving radius where there are positive things happening within the football program; Crown Point, Hanover Central, Lowell, and Lake Central.

I think you’re exactly right. Hamilton is one of the 5 best players in college football right now and the undisputed leader of the defense. It would be nice to have someone step up. But he’s irreplaceable.

There's not a lot of guys in the country who could replace Kyle Hamilton, and there certainly isn't anyone on ND's roster currently to replace him. Unless they hit on the safety recruit out of Iowa they are really high on, the Irish will almost have to look into the transfer portal to help solve the safety position for next season.

Houston Griffith has been ok but isn't a big fan of contact (somewhat necessary to play safety) and DJ Brown is ok in a back up role playing minimal snaps, not playing every snap of the game. I thought some of the younger guys would be able to step up but that has not been the case like you guys mentioned. I hope Hamilton comes back after Navy, but that is going to be a major weakness heading into next season.

First playoff rankings Tuesday should be interesting.

Hopefully common sense prevails and Cincinnati isn’t #2 and Oregon is in front of Ohio State but I’m not holding my breath.

    The Temp’s Top 10:

    1.  Georgia

    2.  Alabama

    3.  Cincinnati

    4.  Oklahoma

    5.  Michigan State

    6.  Oregon

    7.  Ohio State

    8.  Notre Dame

    9.  Wake Forest

    10.  Michigan

WHO you lose to and HOW you lose should matter more than WHEN you lose.

    1. Georgia

    2. Cincinnati

    3. Alabama

    4. Oklahoma

    5. Michigan St

    6. Ohio St

    7. Oregon

    8. Notre Dame

I personally still do not want to see ND in the playoff, but the way things are trending it looks like they may be in the conversation (final spot or next 2 in) after the smoke clears. That is if they win out

As a notre dame fan I loved seeing Sparty win over big blue

Williams is something special to watch. I have not seen a better back this season. His vision, acceleration, ability to stop and change direction are fun to watch. While not spoiled, Coan is frustrating to watch…..and yeah, the defense lets teams hang around too long. It reminds me a lot of the defenses from when Van Gorder was the coordinator….way too complicated. Diaco simplified things so well.

Listening to BK post game presser he said UNC on tape was a counter running team. But these teams, like 4th week in a row, that have a bye before playing ND change things up. BK said they ran zero counter runs last night (not sure if true but he should know). Not trying to make excuses just stating what I heard. But you’re right, the defense needs to play and tackle much better. Luckily navy won’t throw too much, the secondary needs to communicate better as there were a few blown assignments vs UNC.

Another scuffling win.  It's not that much fun watching the Irish this season.  They're way too inconsistent.

The defense was awful and  twice the offense couldn't score from inside the red zone and settled for FG's.  Lots of work left to be done.

    Navy up next.

They’ll need to tackle much much better vs Navy. That qb Howell had like a cheat code where he couldn’t be tackled or sacked, was very frustrating to watch.

  11. I hope that wasn't the last we get to see of junior safety Kyle Hamilton in a Notre Dame uniform. He's going to miss this week vs. North Carolina with a knee issue. Sounds like it won't be season ending, but he's most likely a high first round draft pick who will have a decision to make in regards of if and when to come back to play.

  12. USC Week, which means a game under the lights and a lot of recruits in town. The Irish should be able to handle the Trojans after not meeting last year.

Also hope that the next Pete Carroll doesn't come and make USC what it was in the early 2000's.

    I think I know how this ends…

Georgia is more than likely in.  They may even be able to lose one prior to the SEC title game and still get in.  Now, if they lose a regular season game AND the SEC title game to Bama?  It could get interesting.

Cincinnati is in.  I’m sorry but I just don’t see anyone left on their schedule (sorry SMU) that poses a legitimate threat.  This team has been on a mission since they were snubbed last year.

Bama is now on a mission and will roll through to Atlanta where Georgia awaits.  I’m betting they win there and we are looking at two SEC schools in the playoff.

I see one of two scenarios for the Big Ten.  Either OSU runs the table and gets in with 1 loss (no one from the west poses a threat in the conference title game) or the conference self destructs.

Iowa’s only hope is now to run the table, including the Big Ten title game and even if that does happen, may need some help.

PSU, Michigan and MSU have quite the grind down the stretch, including playing one another.  I don’t see any of them running the table.  PSU has injury issues on both sides of the ball.  MSU won’t win all three of those and Michigan will likely lose Thanksgiving weekend at minimum, eliminating their chances.

That leaves Oklahoma, Oregon and ND.

The Sooners will need to run the table as will ND.  Both capable as their schedules are more than manageable.

Oregon has injury issues and seems to have come back down to earth after that win over OSU.  I could see them slipping up again.

ND fans:  What if I would have told you over the summer that UVA would quite possibly be your best shot at a quality win and boost your playoff resume?

I would say well what about Wisconsin, Cincinnati, USC, North Carolina?!?! But this is 2021 where about anything can happen. I think the Irish fall one more time this season, possibly to Virginia, due to the OL and inconsistencies of the QB position. Hope I'm wrong and they do win out, but I still don't think they are a playoff team. If they were, they would have beaten Cincinnati. My hope is for a quality New Years Day bowl win against a good team.

But this is going to be fun to watch as we head down the home stretch and try and determine the 4 best teams in the country. Will the committee get it right?

All of this was as foretold in the prophecy. The Chosen One will deliver us unto the Promised Land. Like Moses, it will take some time. But the outcome is not in doubt.

The Irish trailed Virginia Tech 29-21 with 3:55 left.  Jack Coan came in and led the Irish to a 32-29 win, yes that Jack Coan.  Another page in the Irish lore!

Really thought we’d see drew pyne but credit to jack coan for not feeling sorry for himself and delivering the game tying and winning drive.. what a 2 point conversion. As soon as he rolled out right I was like uh oh…. Much needed bye week coming up. 5-1 is somewhat impressive considering all the inconsistencies and lack of running game for the team.. Buchner definitely kept the defense honest in the run game but definitely needs work as a passer.

Is the Va. Tech game still scheduled to be on the ACC Network?  If it is I'm SOL.  It's difficult to get 1430am radio at night too.  Oh well, back to the past.

Thanks for the heads up, yes it looks like it's only being shown on ACC Network. Not sure if that's more a pain than playing on the Peacock App or about the same.

Interesting that he still regards Coan as the number one guy. If he's THAT good, then why does he keep taking him out?

With a line that's not very good, doesn't it make sense to use a quarterback who can scramble around rather than just hanging out in the pocket? Everyone seems to understand this with the exception of Brian Kelly. I don't get it.

Think I might have spoken too soon. They (ND) release a weekly depth chart, which had Jack Coan listed at #1. But in his weekly presser BK said they will announce who the QB will be later on, and that internally they know who it is. So take that for what it's worth...
