Portage suffered through an 0-10 football season and were out scored a combined 301-108.

Not being a smart guy here but what were the realistic expectations year one? Did they have much to build around from the previous season? With how poor Portage has been the past few years I guess those numbers aren’t that surprising to me although 200 point differential in a mediocre conference only way to go is up

Not much noise around this Pitt game.  I just hope the Irish are ready.  I think the bye week was good for preparation.  At least I hope so.

Would love to see the offense come out and have a huge game. Don’t think it’ll happen tho, Pitt plays good defense but from what I’ve heard Pitt is very bad on offense. Would like to see the Irish take and succeed on some deep shots down the field because I think Pitt will do what they can to stop the run. Couple of former ND guys playing tofat for Pitt. C’Bo Flemister at RB and Shayne Simon at LB. Let’s go Irish.

Hopefully! Yikes. That was awful. Like they didn’t prepare at all for the blitz packages the Vikings would bring. Flores is notorious for pressuring young QB’s. I heard they blitzed on 72% of plays. And Fields regressed to holding onto the ball forever and missing open WR’s. Probably rolling with Pagent next week. At least he gets the ball out quickly. That INT at the end though, man, that was brutal. 1st down in a potential game winning drive and he throws a wounded duck jump ball.

Agree 100%. Such an awful ending

    What a wild night !!

I have no love loss for West Coast teams either, and now that they are in B10 blah,  so I was nice to tune in late Saturday and saw the Domers doing work.  Makes me happy for my friends like @WolvesOnTheProwl

Kind of wonder how these pac 10 teams will do in the big ten dealing with the weather. USC looked cold Saturday night and that was no where near how cold it can get.  How will they do playing in the Midwest in October and November? Can Oregon and Washington and USC do what they do in the elements?

  6. What a performance by the Irish defense Saturday night. Actually pressured and sacked a quarterback. Offense did just enough and the special teams stepped up when they needed to.  Now a much needed bye week and hopefully win out the final 4. Kudos to the staff for keeping guys focused and getting them up after last weeks letdown.

Well, if you are going to fall, make sure it is a complete shit show. One player played well……the FG kicker. Outplayed and outcoached in every phase of the game

    Other thoughts

Joe Alt’s stock dropped big time. The way he got pushed and tossed around is exactly what NFL DE’s will do.

Number 8 Marist Liufau really stands out….and for all the wrong reasons. For 3 weeks I have seen him run into an o line when he blitzes, miss a LOT of tackles, and just does not read well. Several big runs tonight get beyond the 2nd level because he is out of position. The last TD run was a prime example….just ran into the pile and the RB ran right by where he had been. The 15 yard penalty on him was a killer penalty.

No adjustments to routes run with the constant pressure L’Ville brought all night.

Run the f’ing ball…and downhill. Why they abandoned the run so early is frustrating.

4th and 11 on your own 35? Are you kidding?

Finally, the first interception of the game was a clear push off by the DB. You could clearly see Flores’ upper body move back with the push off.

If that is called, it does not make a difference in this one

Congrats to Coach Brohm and his whole staff. Fantastic game plan and execution.

All great points. The penalty by liafau was huge as was the one on Blake Fisher. Didn’t see a scenario where Louisville would be the more physical and dominate team on both lines and that’s what they were.

My 3 observations from last night and last few games in general. Offensive line has underperformed big time, tackling on defense by linebackers and safeties has been atrocious, and probably because of the 2 the Irish are very bad on 3rd/4th and short, can’t seem to convert or get a stop when they need it.

Louisville was rocking last night. Jeff Brohm will be great there and will obviously get a ton of support. If his teams are going to consistently be that physical, and he’ll get athletes on offense, they could be very good for a long time.

Can someone with more football expertise that I explain to me how the supposed elite ND offensive line had Hartman running for his life last night?

Admittedly, I was a bit hydrated, celebrating my Wolverines victory earlier in the day, but it seemed like every time I looked up at the screen, Hartman was being chased around like a hound dog was chasing a rabbit.

But it didn’t look like the Duke front four were the ones getting the pressure.

He was running around a lot, but Duke was bringing pressure too it seemed. Mike Elko is great coach especially on defense and did a good job of moving guys around and coming from different places..

What was more frustrating was how easily the Duke front just stopped the Irish run game. Really, besides the long td run, hartmans run, and fake punt there wasn’t any running game. Credit to Duke but expected more from the irish run game. Even going into the season I wouldn’t call the o line elite, very good certainly, but at the halfway point they’ve been inconsistent for sure. And if they had trouble with dukes front they’ll definitely have trouble with Clemsons front.

Let’s get past Louisville and get ready for the high flying stopping nobody Trojans

Heck of a 4th down run by Hartman on that final drive.  Duke is much improved.

This is pretty cool if you didn’t see it,  unless you’re a Duke fan I guess.

Hartman is a game changer.  he makes everyone a better player.  Funny how many thought Buchner was the golden boy at one time.  We have a real QB.  He has to stay healthy.

While everyone talks about the big three the Duke game looms a week after OSU.  Duke is the real deal based on what I have watched.  That is a huge trap game.

It will get crazy here starting on Thursday and then you have Game Day as well.

I wonder how many ND fans gave up their tickets to the fans in red.  We shall see come Saturday

Hearing 60/40, ND is doing some kind of green LED wristbands for fans so if there’s 40% o$u fans not sure how the light snow plays out haha hope it’s better than Georgia a few years back

Is Ian Moore disqualified as a result of being an offensive lineman?

Is Braunte Johnson disqualified since North Side isn't as good as expected? They're averaging 54 points per game since moving him from WR to QB. It's hard to overlook something like that when talking "Mr. Football," especially considering he's going to Notre Dame as a DB. Talk about a kid who can do it all.

Then you have Indiana's top ranked player and 18th in the nation, Mylan Graham, who's a major role in New Haven's best team ever.

Braunte is playing qb? I must have missed that!

  12. Final Stat Line of Buchner, Jurkovec, Pyne combined:

    18/47 (38.3%) 167 yards (3.55 YPA), 0 TD, 5 INT, 2 lost fumbles

saw this posted, yesterday’s stat line from former ND qbs. Maybe Tommy Rees was a miracle worker but really shows their lack of finding high end or developing the qbs they brought in. Hopefully that’s a thing of the past with this new regime

Offensive line needs to play way better and defense has to do the same for a chance to win vs Ohio state. And definitely need JD Bertrand back

If they can somehow get 2/3 of OSU, Clemson, USC watch out.  I see 1-2 as the most likely outcome there (though 0-3 is more likely than 3-0 in my opinion) so it comes down to not slipping up one more time.

Draft Kings currently has the number right at 9 for what its worth.

The problem I would hav as an ND fan in the current playoff format and their lack of conference affiliation is that anything less than 11 will feel empty because they have no conference championship game, will likely miss out on the four team playoff with more than 1 loss and will play in what is now a meaningless bowl game where most talented players will opt out.

It’s playoff or bust in the current format.

And let’s not forget this is a staff and team that lost to Stanford and Marshall last year. For them to go 11-1 would mean the staff would have improved as much as the team. I’m not saying they can’t or won’t but the schedule is pretty tough. And let’s say they do knock off Ohio state, how will the team respond to that type of success?

Too early for me to make a prediction but at this point from last season: the quarterback position is way better.  Running back has a lot of depth and should be better. Offense line should be solid, great at tackle and center but maybe questions at guard, major questions at wide receiver and who will be Hartman go to guy, tight end loses Mayer but young guys ready to step up. Defense line has a ton of depth that could be surprise of team; linebackers should be ok, corners have most talent in quite some time and safety room should be improved from last year. Add in 2 transfer kickers so special teams should be good. If I had to make a prediction I’d say 10-2 but 9-3 wouldn’t shock me with the schedule.

Anxious for the game next Saturday in Ireland vs Navy

  14. IMO there was/is no battle. Hartman will be the 1. To be fair, Tyler Buchnar playing in a red jersey is a disservice to his skill set. But man, Hartman made some nice throws and great progressions/reads. And Buchnar, well, not so much. I think both will play this season but what Hartman potentially brings to the passing game could be special.
