  1. I see they have Kevin Miller as the coach right now. I don't know if he is the HC on an interim basis or a permanent hire as the HC. He was an assistant coach last season for the Falcons. Miller's last head coaching job was with Knightstown in 2017 and he has a career 21-61 in eight seasons as a head coach. Besides Knightstown, he also was the head coach at South Dearborn.
  2. You're a youngster. I remember while in high school, Bloomington High was a member of the SIAC. They left for the South Central Conference right after my graduation. I'm not sure of it, but University High played as an independent at that time.
  3. With football teams getting ready for the new season, I still haven't heard anything on what Bloomington South is going to do conference-wise. This year is the last hoorah for Conference Indiana with South, Col. North, and Southport all looking for a conference home. I saw back in April that J R Holmes, the athletic director and basketball coach for South, saying that HHC was an option but I haven't seen any updates on where things stand with all three teams that are looking for a conference home. Surely, I expect something on this situation before the new school year begins this fall, but maybe not. You would think that Southport being in the shadows of Indy, would have the easiest time finding a conference home.
  4. When I first saw this, I was thinking they would move students to one campus or the other, but I saw they are going to build a new campus. New school colors, mascot, and new school song, just to mention some of the changes. I don't know what they did at Elkhart when they consolidated since I'm nowhere near that city.
  5. I watched CN take it to Bloom. South last season at South, with CN winning 32-14. They had a terrific QB in Asher Ratliff who is a dual-threat QB and a returning senior (I believe), but I believe that their superb running back in Gino Prescott has graduated, so I don't know exactly who CN has coming back that would get them this ranking in the preseason. They had a huge o-line that played a big part in their success last season, and I don't know who they have coming back on defense which was pretty strong last season. Preseason polls usually have outliers, and CN may be one of those.
  6. Here's an excerpt from the article on the hire. I guess I was living in a cave since I heard nothing about this hire, even on the grapevine. "His plan was to hit the ground running when he woke up Wednesday, July 9, his first official day as Bloomington North's new head football coach. He had announced his resignation from the same position at Perry Meridian on June 23, expecting to get to work with the Cougars after the regularly scheduled MCCSC board meeting the next day. But it was postponed to July 8, and like a kid staring at presents under the tree, he had to wait — and wait, to get to work."I told my wife, it's been almost three weeks, and I've been unemployed for two," Cooper said. "It lets me know I love football. I'm chomping to get back."
  7. I saw an article where Columbus Regional Health plans to end it's sports medicine program which will affect both North and East high schools with the four athletic trainers (two each) at those schools kind of in limbo. I believe it said the contract with BCSC ends at the end of Sept. They'll work around this problem since they have to have athletic trainers.
  8. I'm not close to the program being a South fan, but usually rumors start leaking about who is being considered, and I have heard absolutely nothing on the North hire hunt. The PM and North hires need to be done as soon as possible considering the lateness in the job openings. North has their defensive line coach, Brad Engel, running their summer program as the interim head coach, and who knows, maybe they hand him the job full-time.
  9. Here's an excerpt from the article: Brett Cooper, who led Perry Meridian to a 14-39 record the past five seasons, said Monday he has stepped down as coach. Cooper led the Falcons to a 5-6 record last season, the best mark for the program since a 5-5 season in 2015. Cooper is not necessarily getting out of coaching. “I am exploring other options at this time but wanted to give Perry an opportunity to focus on the future.”
  10. Bloomington North HC job is open after Anthony Lindsey resigned. They posted the opening today.
  11. He is also leaving the school as a teacher and assistant athletic director. He went 8-3 in his only season with the Cougars. He handed in his resignation letter on May 19th, and this is the first that I have heard about it, According to North AD Andy Hodson, Lindsey is exploring other job opportunities and to spend more time with family, so Hodson said that with the timing, they are hitting the ground running with trying to find a replacement. Hodson said they just posted the job opening today. Defensive line coach Brad Engel has been named the interim head coach. North has a significant player turnover from last season, but recently had a QB from Illinois come in with there being an open competition at that position. North had two of their best players in receiver Jalen Williams and linebacker Ross Ogden, transfer to Bloomington South mid-semester.
  12. If you are talking about the kid from Dunlap, Illinois whose dad is a new assistant basketball coach at IU, he is enrolling at North. He will be a senior this coming season and he would have played behind South's Duncan Combs for sure barring injury to Combs, so he has a much better chance of starting at North which will be breaking in a new starting QB next season.
  13. CI initially was just a parking place for the Indy area schools while they kept their eye on a permanent place in a conference around that area. CI needed those schools since there was not a plethora of schools south of there that were of sufficient size for the conference. Of those that were, they were pretty much locked-in with the HHC.
  14. Like it's been pointed out, these numbers/rankings are something to create discussion in a period where there is not much going on for the average fan. We still don't know what the rosters are going to be like going into the upcoming season although we have a pretty good idea of the core players returning. Injuries certainly play a part as players prepare for the new season, so there is that. I'm pretty high on Bloom. South as a fan with the return of sr RB Braylen Townsend, who will be one of the top running backs in the state, as well as jr 6-5 QB Duncan Combs, who will also be up there with some of the better QBs in the state. I don't know just how things are going to develop for the o-line with some losses there, and needless to say, they will play a big role in how things go with Townsend and Combs. The defense is another question mark and I'm not close enough to the program to know how the coaches see that side of the ball going into the new season.
  15. If I had a preference, I would prefer the Mid-State Conference and then the HHC in that order, but not because of competitive reasons. The Mid-State Conference would mean much less travel time, while the HHC would mean a lot of travel time with several schools down on the Ohio River. It would be a quick shot up I-69 to get close to the Mid-State Conference schools for all sports and not just the "money" sports. If it were strictly for competitive reasons, I would prefer the HHC since we developed quite a bit of rivalry with New Albany and Floyd Central down on the Ohio River, not to mention Silver Creek from outside the HHC in basketball. We continue to have both football and basketball relationships with nearby HHC schools in Col. East, Seymour, and BNL, not to mention Jennings County. I don't know where the contract stands on our basketball series with New Albany and Floyd Central, but they are among the schools that have been a mainstay on our basketball schedule.
  16. Yeah, both you and Frozen Tundra make sense on why they are leaving CI after this upcoming season. Travel-wise, the move doesn't change much for the schools involved. Bloom. South and Col. North decided to remain pat over the past couple of years unless there was some negotiation going on that I'm unaware of. It was no secret that Bloom. North and Southport were looking for new conference alliances over that period, so we all knew there were going to be some changes coming up at some point.
  17. The constant moving of schools to the various conferences is enough to make one's head spin. From a football standpoint, the TH schools are not a good fit for any conference since they have been noncompetitive for the most part in CI in that sport with TH South occasionally coming up with a big win. TH North was strong in basketball the past couple of seasons and promise to be strong next season. TH South hasn't been all that competitive in basketball for the past few seasons. So, I wonder if those schools wanted to get away from Bloom South and Columbus North in what you would call the "money" sports at the high school level. That's just me trying the get a handle on the move with some speculation.
  18. Bloom. South AD talked about options today and he didn't elude to anything other than that statement. With South, Col. North and Southport (who has been trying to extract themselves from CI the last couple of years), I'm not sure what is going to happen.
  19. They should be even better on offense with Duncan Combs back at QB and Braylen Townsend running amok although they still will have to plug some holes in the o=line. I was knocked out of circulation before the sectionals because of a major health scare thus i wasn't posting anything on the post-season but I am back in action although the season is over with. I know that the Bulldogs have their really effective QB back but I'm not sure of what else.
  20. Columbus North 48 Terre Haute South 24 (final) The Bull Dogs are the champions of Conference Indiana.
  21. Columbus North 45 Terre Haute South 24 (end of 3rd)
  22. Brown County 20 Edgewood 18 (final)
  23. Bloomington North 48 Southport 14 (final)
  24. Columbus North 31 Terre Haute South 21 (7:06, 3rd)
  25. Bloomington South 42 Seymour 6 (final) The Owls avoided the shutout on the very last play of the game.
