  3. The reality of this season has been clear since early on. There are far too many inexperienced players, coupled with numerous and often significant injuries that would be too much for a veteran team to overcome. It is largely a lost season from a going to a bowl perspective, but it is completely different to me than the Hazel years. I still watch these games to see the young talent develop. There is more ability out there than there has been since Tiller's early days. Once it grows up and some depth is established, this could be a very solid program. If the recruiting trends are any clue, I think they will get there.
  4. In 2016 they went 6-4, and finished 2nd in the conference. In 2011 they went 5-5 with a talented RB and a coach who has since won a state title at his new school. It sounds like things are on a good track in JC. Perhaps the wins will follow. They've had some better seasons in recent memory. Best of luck to the Panthers.
  5. Greenwood (3-6) at Madison (1-8) Jennings County (3-6) at Martinsville (3-6)
  6. Thanks for putting this together. It is like March Madness on steroids!
  7. They are already way over on commitments from this class, so there is going to have to be a fair amount of attrition other than Sipe if they are to sign all of these guys to stay under the 85 scholarship limit. They only have 10 scholarship seniors and already have 19 commitments secured for 2020 and they are still actively recruiting. It will be interesting to see it shake out. Good luck to Mr. Sipe on finishing his academics at Purdue.

  9. Sorry.. should have quoted you. Just kind of expanding on things. We're on the same page!
  10. Just the opposing thought here... If you are building a program, perhaps there is something to be gained by playing your starters longer in a blow out. They get more Friday night experience and the JV kids they are going up against may be equal to some of the varsity guys on their team. Being able to score against (insert your conference dominant team here) could be a confidence booster, regardless of which of their players you are going against. Your JV guys get four quarters on Saturday or Monday, so it would be unfortunate for your starters to only get two. Yes, the concern for injuries must be considered, but I think it is something you weigh.
  11. Clarksville 62 - North Harrison 60 Barnburner! Congrats to Clarksville on an improved season.
  12. BNL (2-6 overall, 2-3 in HHC) at Jeffersonville (3-5 overall, 3-3 in HHC) Madison (1-7, 1-4) at Columbus East (6-2, 5-0) Jennings County (3-5, 1-4) at New Albany (3-5, 2-3) Floyd Central (6-2, 4-1) at Seymour (4-4, 3-3) You certainly have to wonder if the weather was a player for Seymour last week in being able to stay so close with East. They started out the season well, then have struggled since. Seymour is a tough place to play, especially for the Highlanders. This one could go either way. The same can be said for BNL/Jeff. I wouldn't be surprised to see it go either way. And while I'm at it, you can't count out JC sneaking up on New Albany. I think the East game is the only sure fire thing this week! Good luck to all teams and stay healthy heading into the tournament.

  14. In general, yes they are. What people are not satisfied with is the fact that they went from 4 classes to 6 classes with only 220 teams playing. That has severely watered down things. Many coaches are in favor of going down in the number of classes. However, people liked the playoff system. Now, this year, they added some type of RPI feature to the playoff that I think coaches hate. It was some state-level decision that was thrown on them and coaches were pissed. I will never forget my first season on staff at a school in Kentucky. I explained the Indiana tournament system to them after having coached in it and played in it. I was laughed out of the room. They thought it was the dumbest thing in the world. The more coaches I connected with there, the more dumb they thought it was. Many on this thread talk about how awful such a tournament would be. I'd be willing to bet the majority of them have never had the opportunity to experience another system. I'm sure I've told this story before, but one of my most memorable games there was our last regular season game for the district championship. I have never seen such an atmosphere at the high school level. The game was so full, people were standing around the entire track to see the game. There was so much that led up to that game. And if we won, we got the better seed in the tournament. But we didn't, and we got the lower seed. We still won round 1, but it set us up with a tougher round 2 that we couldn't get past. I don't advocate dumping the all-in. That would never pass in Indiana. I've always thought if we took the sectional groupings and made those into districts and based seeding on place finish in those districts that it would be a simple, effective way to do it. People complain about losing conference affiliations, but the thing is, most sectionals are loaded with conference opponents. Play a 10 game schedule, play 7 district games and then schedule 3 of whoever you want and relive your conference affiliations if you want. In the playoffs, your seed yields you a game with a matchup with a different sectional so you don't repeat your regular season schedule. But I am realistic. This is Indiana and nothing will change in the near future. I just hope they figure out a way to go with the top two seed that keeps getting tossed around. At least it's a start.
  15. Salem is a classic, true triple option flexbone team. They have a talented quarterback and they run the system well. If you don't see that all season long, preparing for it on short notice can be challenging. However, I don't see GS having any trouble with them as they will have not seen anything like GS all year.
  16. Facts. FC/BNL is always a good game, regardless of records coming in. I bet they end up playing again in sectionals and you can't be surprised if BNL walks away with the one that matters. It's tough to beat a team twice.
  17. Isn't that called the 'Big 12 Methodology'? 😁 I for one don't care as long as they can put up W's when they get the program established.
  18. Bedford North Lawrence (2-5, 2-2 HHC) at Floyd Central (5-2, 3-1 HHC) Columbus East (5-2, 4-0 HHC) at Seymour (4-3, 2-2 HHC) Jennings County (3-4, 1-3 HHC) at Jeffersonville (2-5, 2-2 HHC) New Albany (2-5, 1-3 HHC) at Madison (1-6, 1-3 HHC) I do think Jennings could upend Jeff if they play really well and BNL could upset FC as those are always good games no matter the records.
  19. He has done this every week. And his analysis is fair. It doesn't mean we guess them all right, but he calls it how he thinks it can play out. Then they play the games. There's no way to predict with certainty or we'd be rich from gambling. Nothing to be upset about there.
  20. Week 8 Games: Clarksville at Corydon Crawford County at North Harrison Salem at Charlestown Scottsburg at Eastern Pekin Silver Creek at Brownstown Shortridge at West Washington Paoli at Mitchell Perry Central at Springs Valley Agreed. There are a few games that really could go either way.
  21. Columbus East (4-2, 3-0 HHC) at Bedford North Lawrence (2-4, 2-1 HHC) Floyd Central (4-2, 2-1 HHC) at Jennings County (3-3, 1-2 HHC) Jeffersonville (1-5, 1-2 HHC) at Madison (1-5, 1-2 HHC) Seymour (4-2, 2-1 HHC) at New Albany (1-5, 0-3 HHC) There doesn't appear to be much suspense or much to disagree on this week. It is interesting that it looks as though all the road teams may take it this week.
  22. Yeah, I don't see Holt going anywhere. He is a good DC. And he has an incredibly young defense. His first year here with a lot of experienced guys, they were top notch. The offense just didn't have much that year.
  23. Yeah Sindelar has a broken clavicle. They act like he can return, but I'd be surprised if he does. Plummer looks good and will be good with experience. The difference from the TCU game to the Minnesota game was very apparent with him. At one point, Purdue had 7 freshmen on offense and 6 on defense. It's hard to win at any level like that, and they still had every chance to win. It looks like it could be a disappointing season with all the injuries mounting, but for once, I feel like there is a lot of hope to be had because the team is very young and there is a lot of raw talent out there. I am confident this staff will coach them up, they will improve and there will be better days ahead.
