Shoulder Pad Replacement
boilerfan87 replied to Sports Fan's topic in The Indiana High School Football Forum
We always had ours reconditioned every year. But we also purchased 5-10 each year new to phase out the oldest ones. That way, we didn't run into a situation where we needed a whole bunch of new shoulder pads at once. We did the same thing with helmets. -

That's pretty awesome. With RB Wright also having a BGSU offer, that's two guys with sure fire D1 offers. Full ride D1 guys out of Floyd have not happened very often over the years. Congrats to the two and the program. -
Hoosier Hills Conference

It is easy to say in retrospect that it should have been done then. However, the school has given it quite an adequate amount of time and data by waiting until now to justify the move. I agree with you that it is a bold move and one that could absolutely pay off well for the school and its athletic programs. The article mentioned both of them as a possibility. But it said only if a spot opens up. It is hard to see that happening with either conference any time soon. Both Madison and Jennings County were recently in discussions to make a move to the EIAC, but JC declined to make a move, leaving Madison out as well because the EIAC wanted both. They are currently an 8 team league, with a 3a/4a split of four teams each. EIAC makes a lot of sense as far as enrollment is concerned. The MSC makes sense geographically, but are nearly at max capacity in football and I can't see teams wanting no out of conference opponent. In the mean time, they will operate as an independent, which gives them a lot of freedom and perhaps friendly scheduling will allow them to bolster participation rates with some success. As we have seen with this move and with others in the past several years, conference affiliations must change as demographics surrounding schools do. Competitive balance is an issue, but it makes no sense for a school to remain in a conference in which they are not competitive in any sport, boys or girls. I think football has driven many of the changes recently, but Madison made this decision as a whole, which was wise on their part to not be short sighted in regard to one sport. -

From the Madison Courier https://madisoncourier.com/Content/News/News/Article/The-Madison-School-Board-votes-5-0-to-withdraw-Madison-from-the-Hoosier-Hills-Conference-/178/961/118498 There are some interesting stats in this article. They hope to join a conference when a spot becomes available. -
It is a great relief to come to these boards and not deal with all the rumors and garbage that takes place in so many other places on the internet. The Kentucky high school football message boards are like this. Tons of speculative threads. I can't imagine it helping any situation, particularly the person of note in the topics. It is more than likely damaging on some level. Unfortunately, rumors started online can have grave effects on people's jobs and careers. Kudos the the Gridiron team for keeping this forum clean.

There are indeed a lot of unknowns, but there have been at Purdue for quite some time. Brohm has given the program an identity and won more games than anyone expected. He came in with a win now attitude where many coaches would not and I think if he didn't do that, he wouldn't be recruiting like he is. That said, next year is bowl or bust, IMO. There is far too much talent returning to not achieve it. Even though the o-line is a question mark, they return 9 guys with pretty extensive experience. If they are able to pull in a grad transfer, they'll have 10 guys the staff will be comfortable with playing. They will have one of the most talented wide receiver corps in the Big Ten and Plummer has proven capable of being the QB, though they may add a grad transfer if possible for competition purposes. The key will be the DC hire. He has to get it right. If he doesn't, I do think that could really hurt his time at Purdue. There are some depth concerns, but there is talent on that side of the ball. All in all, I am glad he is the Purdue coach and think he will get it done in the long run.

I have mixed emotions on the whole thing because I enjoyed Holt's passion. However, I often found myself frustrated by what you are saying seemed to be Coach Brohm's issues. Far too often, they gave up big plays by alignment. It seemed like such a simple thing to fix, but it rarely was.

Prayers for Coach Bowsman
boilerfan87 replied to CoachAnderson's topic in The Indiana High School Football Forum
I have struggled to put into words what to say... a million thoughts run through my head as a fellow coach... I can't even imagine what his family and the community is going through. I was fortunate to know Coach Bowsman. He was a great and humble man. The fact that he was also a great coach was just a bonus. I am so sad to see this tragedy. My thoughts and prayers are with his family and the community. -
WW @ Lutheran I sincerely hope my pick against WW works again and they pull it off. I think it should be a good game, regardless.

You can if I keep picking against WW and they keep winning! Surely I figure it out sooner or later, right? I told you, I'd be fine to be wrong! 😁 Hats off to Coach Bowsman and the Senators. Truthfully, I think the thing that I failed to take into account the most was the fact that the game was at WW. Talk about a tough place to play. Now the next week pick... Lutheran is quite a formidable opponent! Still, it's hard to doubt this squad. I'll have to chew on it a while first!

Coach Bragg is doing a nice job building his program. The foundation looks to be solid and the future is bright. -

I'm just going to quote and agree with you. Hopefully FC can play well and keep it close, as we will all be rooting for the HHC to continue on. Good luck, Highlanders. -
North Decatur at West Washington I am having a hard time picking against WW, but doing my best to be objective here. I hope WW wins, do not get me wrong. I have to go with my gut here and say ND gets the win. Paoli is the common opponent here. WW beat Paoli 34-30. ND beat Paoli 41-0. As I recall, there were some injuries or something that Paoli had suffered against WW the week before that maybe led to their game against ND not being so close. Good luck to both teams!

You can't throw it away in high school football, so any intentional throw out of bounds is grounding no matter where the ball is thrown from. -

I was able to be there for the previous two sectional titles. The one in 98 and 09. Unfortunately, I was under the weather and was unable to make it last night. In the 1998 regional, they lost 22-12 to Indianapolis Cathedral. That was quite a game. Cathedral barely beat East Central in semi-state, then destroyed Concord for the state title. In 09, they had to travel to Center Grove and did not fare well, losing 42-7. Center Grove lost in the semi-state to Warren Central. BHSS will be quite the challenge next week, especially having to travel. Best of luck to the Highlanders. -

Congrats to Floyd on their 3rd sectional title in school history. Bloomington South will be quite the challenge. They don't have any common opponents, but BHSS did play Martinsville and lost to them. Martinsville destroyed BNL early in the year. BHSS also lost to Columbus North, who defeated Columbus East. It should be an interesting matchup! -

I believe it has to do with bracket placement. The winner of sectional 16 will host the regional. -

They do not, but the bleachers have a very large capacity. I may be wrong, but I feel like they did bring in temp stands for the visitors side for an event at some point. Regardless, the facilities are very nice. -

Good luck! I've heard that's not a friendly place to be! Brohm said in his presser this week he does not expect Sindelar back this year. He didn't rule it out, but said he didn't expect it. I would think it would be nice to have, but given his injury history, would he even hold up?

I have never seen such a star-crossed season. I didn't even know how to react when Plummer went down. It was beyond "are you kidding me?" because there have been so many others. I think it was more like "well of course he is hurt." O'Connell has looked decent in limited time. Odds are they won't get a bowl game anyway, so hopefully they can beat Northwestern and keep the bucket in West Lafayette.
