  1. I don't disagree with you, I am just telling you what I was told. BNL sticks out as someone I was told and I remember that because I was surprised. But I could be remembering wrong. JC & Seymour for sure. It is generally the first 6 weeks or so of their schedule, depending on the size of their district. Some districts have just 4 teams, so only 3 games that they will typically play at the end of the season. Others have 6, so that will usually be the last 5 weeks of the season. I did see FC picked up Cincinnati Elder for week 3. Quite a step up in competition. Good for them. They already play Kentucky powerhouse, Male, during week 1.
  2. I believe Madison will keep Jennings and Seymour. I cannot be sure of any others, but BNL is possible.
  3. https://www.indystar.com/story/news/education/2020/04/28/indiana-coronavirus-holcomb-schools-fall-semester-education/3038614001/?utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=twitter This is continued talk about the way school will look to start next year. Districts are being asked to prepare for digital learning to continue with the start of the school year and the possibility of starting later. Obviously, this will impact sports. It will be very interesting to see how the IHSAA will handle that. Will there be delays? Cancellations? We hope not. And we won't know for at least a few weeks. I do appreciate that the state is not trying to move too quickly on a decision for next year with this, but I still think May is a bit early to decide on that, given the seemingly fluid nature of this situation.
  4. I mentioned this in the other thread. Here are a couple of updates from the state. If this holds up, it will be hard to justify starting sports as usual. https://in.chalkbeat.org/2020/4/21/21230499/even-after-indiana-schools-reopen-it-could-take-time-to-get-back-to-normal-mccormick-says https://wsbt.com/news/local/indiana-department-of-education-discusses-plans-for-the-future-of-schooling Again, I want football and all sports to come back ASAP. But they will take a back seat when it comes to how the state is deciding for schools to proceed at the start of the next school year, which could potentially be after Labor Day.
  5. This was not a media driven comment. This is based on first hand knowledge as someone involved in the decision making for schools. It does not mean that it will happen. We may well be able to start school on time, but these discussions are being had to prepare school districts for how they will handle this potentially new starting date. Again, this is first hand information because we are having to make tentative plans to adjust to this. My reason for posting it is for us all to consider the possibility that it could happen. Of course, if we do not start school on time, there will certainly be adjustments to sports. I want school, football and sports in general to be back for our students like everyone else. But ultimately, we do not make those decisions. The state, the IDOE and IHSAA all make these decisions and set the guidelines. Hopefully everything is well and these message board discussions are all for naught.
  6. Discussions are taking place at the state level that schools may not start back on time. Perhaps not until after Labor Day. Districts are preparing plans in case this does in fact become reality. If this is the case, there will certainly have to be adjustments made to all fall sports. It is still too early to know for sure, but we will know something this summer.
  7. He was the offensive coordinator at HSE rival Fishers for years before taking the Seymour job. They had some good runs there, including a state title. For him, it appears it was an opportunity to return home and to take on a bigger program. Best of luck, Coach Kelly.
  8. Yes. As you can expect, lineman pads are larger and heavier duty. Skill guys are smaller for more mobility. There are QB specific shoulder pads.
  9. We always had ours reconditioned every year. But we also purchased 5-10 each year new to phase out the oldest ones. That way, we didn't run into a situation where we needed a whole bunch of new shoulder pads at once. We did the same thing with helmets.
  10. That's pretty awesome. With RB Wright also having a BGSU offer, that's two guys with sure fire D1 offers. Full ride D1 guys out of Floyd have not happened very often over the years. Congrats to the two and the program.
  11. Providence hired Daniel McDonald, DC at Male HS in Louisville. https://www.courier-journal.com/story/sports/preps/indiana/2020/03/20/providence-football-hires-male-defensive-coordinator-daniel-mcdonald/2884335001/
  12. John Edge leaving South Spencer to return to Kentucky at Apollo High School in Owensboro. Prior to South Spencer, he was the head coach at Owensboro Catholic. https://www.owensbororadio.com/2020/02/10/john-edge-is-the-new-apollo-football-coach/
  13. It is easy to say in retrospect that it should have been done then. However, the school has given it quite an adequate amount of time and data by waiting until now to justify the move. I agree with you that it is a bold move and one that could absolutely pay off well for the school and its athletic programs. The article mentioned both of them as a possibility. But it said only if a spot opens up. It is hard to see that happening with either conference any time soon. Both Madison and Jennings County were recently in discussions to make a move to the EIAC, but JC declined to make a move, leaving Madison out as well because the EIAC wanted both. They are currently an 8 team league, with a 3a/4a split of four teams each. EIAC makes a lot of sense as far as enrollment is concerned. The MSC makes sense geographically, but are nearly at max capacity in football and I can't see teams wanting no out of conference opponent. In the mean time, they will operate as an independent, which gives them a lot of freedom and perhaps friendly scheduling will allow them to bolster participation rates with some success. As we have seen with this move and with others in the past several years, conference affiliations must change as demographics surrounding schools do. Competitive balance is an issue, but it makes no sense for a school to remain in a conference in which they are not competitive in any sport, boys or girls. I think football has driven many of the changes recently, but Madison made this decision as a whole, which was wise on their part to not be short sighted in regard to one sport.
  14. From the Madison Courier https://madisoncourier.com/Content/News/News/Article/The-Madison-School-Board-votes-5-0-to-withdraw-Madison-from-the-Hoosier-Hills-Conference-/178/961/118498 There are some interesting stats in this article. They hope to join a conference when a spot becomes available.
  15. It is a great relief to come to these boards and not deal with all the rumors and garbage that takes place in so many other places on the internet. The Kentucky high school football message boards are like this. Tons of speculative threads. I can't imagine it helping any situation, particularly the person of note in the topics. It is more than likely damaging on some level. Unfortunately, rumors started online can have grave effects on people's jobs and careers. Kudos the the Gridiron team for keeping this forum clean.
  16. There are indeed a lot of unknowns, but there have been at Purdue for quite some time. Brohm has given the program an identity and won more games than anyone expected. He came in with a win now attitude where many coaches would not and I think if he didn't do that, he wouldn't be recruiting like he is. That said, next year is bowl or bust, IMO. There is far too much talent returning to not achieve it. Even though the o-line is a question mark, they return 9 guys with pretty extensive experience. If they are able to pull in a grad transfer, they'll have 10 guys the staff will be comfortable with playing. They will have one of the most talented wide receiver corps in the Big Ten and Plummer has proven capable of being the QB, though they may add a grad transfer if possible for competition purposes. The key will be the DC hire. He has to get it right. If he doesn't, I do think that could really hurt his time at Purdue. There are some depth concerns, but there is talent on that side of the ball. All in all, I am glad he is the Purdue coach and think he will get it done in the long run.
  17. I have mixed emotions on the whole thing because I enjoyed Holt's passion. However, I often found myself frustrated by what you are saying seemed to be Coach Brohm's issues. Far too often, they gave up big plays by alignment. It seemed like such a simple thing to fix, but it rarely was.
  18. I have struggled to put into words what to say... a million thoughts run through my head as a fellow coach... I can't even imagine what his family and the community is going through. I was fortunate to know Coach Bowsman. He was a great and humble man. The fact that he was also a great coach was just a bonus. I am so sad to see this tragedy. My thoughts and prayers are with his family and the community.
  19. WW @ Lutheran I sincerely hope my pick against WW works again and they pull it off. I think it should be a good game, regardless.
  20. Perhaps because he is a coach and is... 1 - interested in factual information and.. 2 - not interested in making excuses
  21. You can if I keep picking against WW and they keep winning! Surely I figure it out sooner or later, right? I told you, I'd be fine to be wrong! 😁 Hats off to Coach Bowsman and the Senators. Truthfully, I think the thing that I failed to take into account the most was the fact that the game was at WW. Talk about a tough place to play. Now the next week pick... Lutheran is quite a formidable opponent! Still, it's hard to doubt this squad. I'll have to chew on it a while first!
  22. Coach Bragg is doing a nice job building his program. The foundation looks to be solid and the future is bright.
  23. I'm just going to quote and agree with you. Hopefully FC can play well and keep it close, as we will all be rooting for the HHC to continue on. Good luck, Highlanders.
