Barkhimer is out for the year with a broken ankle.  They started a Freshman and Kai Stidham and Parker Harrison.  Parker is preseason All State and a key to that crew.  If he  can play it will be with a club hand and look for Mark McDonald to get some reps at LB too as he did last week.

Just curious? How significant are these injuries? I know a lot about their Offense but what does their D look like? Best players?

I don’t disagree with that.  I just thought Jeff had more talent than I had seen in the last several years which I think is true but they have zero discipline. Floyd has several positives but I do think their offensive line is small and hopefully East offense continues to score points in bunches.

Agreed.  If they can run effectively and keep East offense on the sidelines it will help them immensely

Floyds O-Line isn’t small. Now, are they good enough to move Easts front? I’m not real convinced there. I do think that Defense and Pass Blocking are things that have improved under Coach Bragg that Brian Glesing didn’t seem to focus much on. I don’t think it will be a real competitive game Friday. 06 says 3 TDs. I’ll take that. That would be improvement.

Sure when confronted by facts walk away.

Never discount the advantage of having multiple feeder schools.

No. But you are basically the message board police here. If anyone says something, you immediately fact check everything. You aren’t on the field. Stop throwing Yellow Flags. Opinions don’t always require facts. It’s all circumstancial.

Well, I don’t know why they are throwing everyone in there?

East clearly is the class of the HHC when you're talking Football. I think "they" were just using the rest of the conference for comparison sake.

Lol. I’m not one that has been “making fun” of Seymour.

Really? "I haven't worried about Seymour since Joe Goodman retired" ring a bell?

Obviously, they were very good in the Joe Goodman years.

So on the one hand Szabo "built them up" and the very next sentence the next coach took over a terrible roster? One of those statements is wrong. Or perhaps there's just a chance that coaches have to coach the talent they have, Szabo saw a downturn in talent and left for greener pastures. Seymour had an incredible run of talent in the late 80's-early 2000's. They also had an athletic friendly administration. Seymour was one of the first schools I'm aware of that had a weight class during the school day, it started in 1980. Seymour had a youth football program that started in the 4/5 grade, that went back to the late 60's. All that changed about the time Goodman retired, hmmmm. All of these events happened about the same time........The bottom line is high school coaches can only coach the players they have.

If you go back the past 20 years, Floyd and BNL have been FAR more successful than Seymour.

You need to figure out when to stop digging. In the past 20 years 1999-2018

Seymour vs. FC 11-9  Seymour 2 Sectional titles 1 regional title. FC 1 Sectional title.

Seymour vs. BNL 8-12 Seymour 2 Sectional titles 1 regional title. BNL 1 Sectional title.

But the only football fan in here that can truly claim dominance, is a Columbus East fan.

One might argue had it not been for Cathedral, Seymour and East would have been able to add to the history of their programs. With the exception of 2001, after beating East and Seymour, Cathedral went on to win the state title.

That’s a real blue blood type of program.

I don't believe anyone has argued that they weren't.

Whoever PM you that is obviously a coward for not coming over here and posting that for whoever the fan was that offended them.

I get PM's all the time, I just chose to share this one. I can assure you like me they don't have a dog in the fight. Perhaps I didn't even share the entire PM so you or someone else wouldn't be offended? Calling them a coward while hiding behind an anonymous screen name is a bit ironic isn't it?

    It obviously wasn’t me either.

I’ll give you a hand for doing this kind of work. I don’t really care. But I’ll give you props for it.

This was forwarded to me via PM. I’ll just leave this here for the fan bois to discuss.

I understand that you aren't  Seymour fan.. but even if you were...

A Floyd, NA, Jeff, JC, Madison, or BNL fan making fun of a Seymour fan in football is a bit rich. Seymour as whole... is a much more successful program than those others.

Seymour 4 sectionals 2 regionals 1 semi state. 34-37 overall

BNL has won 1 sectional. 11-35 overall in the tourney

    Madison no sectionals. 7-34

     JC no sectionals. 6-34

    Jeff 4 sectionals 27-35

    NA 2 sectionals 12-35

     FC 2 sectionals  30-34

  6. Well, since Floyd is about to play Columbus East, and BNL in a few weeks, and there are a lot of fans from both teams on here, I thought I would go ahead and make a mid-season scouting report for Floyd Central, just for fun. So opposing fans know who to look for. No predictions. I won’t give away any scheme out of respect for the Coaching Staff. And I won’t say anything negative about any player or coaches. It’s been a fun first half.

Offensively-Tristan Polk is the Signal Caller. He’s a Junior. Very tall. Good arm. Threat to run. Pretty typical QB. Has made strides. Solid leader on the field. Wenkers Wright is the Tailback. A Junior. Decent size, deceptively strong, has a great stiff arm, good vision, and can explode through the hole for 6 at any point. Has been clocked in the low 4.4s many times. The backup RB is Calvin Brown. A Senior Captain. He’s a scat-back type, versatile, and has good short area quickness. Also plays WR, Slot, CB, and PR. An important player. Also at WR is Kaleb Quenichet. A Junior. He’s been the main target recently. He’s a tall, possession guy. Sure handed. Landon Deweese. A Senior. Is another good target. Just a solid football player. Floyd uses many TEs. Their O-line is made up of of 4 Jrs and 1 Sr. LT, Zen Mischalski is a Junior. Weighs in about 230 lbs. LG is Caleb Rodgers. A Junior. Weighs in at 290 lbs. The C is Isaac Hatfield. A Junior. Weighs in at 215 lbs. RG is Brenton Rodgers. A Senior. Weighs in at 270 lbs.  And the RT is Trent Hyatt. A Junior. Weighs in at 290 lbs. A big, and steadily improving O-line.

Defense. At LE is Seth Cook. A 215 lb Senior. At NT is Micheal Murphy, a 230 lb Senior. At DT is Daniel Cristiani. A 210 lb Senior. And at RE is Trace Richards, a 190 lb Junior. Richards a former RB, is one of the best athletes on the team and a tremendous pass rusher. Their d-line has been overall solid this season. They get after it. Well coached. At LOLB is Trent Allen, a Junior. At MLB is JD McKay, a Senior. And at ROLB is Caleb Slaughter, a JR. McKay is a Senior Co-Captain. And a sure tackler. Slaughter always seems to be all over the field making tackles. At LCB is Calvin Brown. A Senior Co-Captain. At RCB is Blake Zehnder. A Junior. FS is Trace Willman, a Senior. And SS is Landon Deweese. A Senior. The Secondary is a strength for Floyd. A lot of experience back there. Brown and Zehnder are good man cover guys. Willman is 6”3 Centerfielder that breaks up a lot of passes.

Special Teams-The Kicker and Punter is Senior, Cole Hussung. The Michigan commit, has one of the strongest legs in the State. He’s still working on accuracy but his leg can impact a game. The PR is Calvin Brown. And the KR is Jaxon Farley. A Sophomore. Both guys are solid return men.

Synopsis-For the most part, the team has met expectations. Well coached. And for the most part, still developing. A good Junior core, but definitely some Seniors playing roles too.

I didn’t mean to exclude BNL. Weber wins playoff games; Szabo didn’t, excluding the Sectional year.

I liked Szabo. He built them up. Weber took over a terrible roster. Built them up. It all has to do with talent. Hell, Coach Bragg was a Head Coach for 1 year at a terrible program in Illinois and didn’t win a game. Now he has FC on the right track. It depends on talent, and it takes time. Gaddis first couple of teams at CE were beatable. Now, you have to be extremely good to beat them.

My prediction stands at 41-20... I don’t think we completely shut down Wright. I think he breaks 1 for a TD..

He’s a great athlete, but your defense is the real deal.

I’ve always had genuine respect for Floyd. I can’t say that about many other teams, certainly not a majority of HHC teams.

I respect all the HHC teams. I’ll cheer for all the other teams come playoff time. We all want to see the HHC get stronger. Even the East fans want that.

As long as the draw doesn't put you on the same side of the bracket.

Well that’s what I mean. I just think NA and Jeffersonville are in much bigger rebuilds right now. I think Floyd Central is better than BNL. I don’t think it’s by a wide margin. I’ve seen FC upset better BNL teams in the Sectional(2008). I’ve seen BNL upset better FC teams in the Sectional(2011).

I like our chances if it’s at home. But up in Stars country........that could be dangerous.

I would say the big game of the week is Floyd @ CE. Floyd brings in the top rusher in the state, and I’m sure he is still top 3/5 in the country.. Big question, will Floyd’s line be able to open up holes for Wright? Great RB with tons of speed, but not much you can do if the O-Line can’t get you some openings. Should be an interesting match-up to watch from Stafford Field.

You never know. But we struggled to get a push against Jeffersonvilles front 7. Floyd would need to roll out a potent passing game for this game to be competitive. I think it’s a 42-10 type of game. Wenkers might bust 1 for a TD. I hope I’m wrong. But that’s where I stand.

    Mid-Season update...

having seen half the conference play at this juncture and reading on each team as the season has progressed I offer this 😀

East is East and I truly believe they will make some noise come playoff time in 6A

Floyd seems to be the second best team in the conference but I don't think they are head and shoulders above anyone.

Everyone else throw into a big mixing bowl.

From the eye test Seymour was way overrated playing the type of schedule BNL played for several years and rolling out 4-0 against way below average competition. That's not all bad when you are rebuilding your program. BNL played South Dearborn for a few years and an IPS school so I get it. But they were not the better team last night on the field vs. BNL which was by far the best team they had played this season. They could have very well beaten the Stars but BNL was the better team.

BNL players hopefully believes after last night that they can compete for and win the Sectional which they can.  This is a team that has been severely affected by injuries and took some shots again last night injury wise.  As I've said in this forum the only problem has been heart and effort.  Outside of Gaddis there is no other team in the HHC that has a better coach and if the locals can stay on course this year and next year in 2 years and going forward BNL will have gotten to where they need to be to compete year in and year out in 5A.  Madison was absolutely a gut check and an embarrassing loss (that's to not in anyway minimize Madison) those boys gave 110% and played with heart and emotion when BNL let them hang around  kudos to their coach and players for that but they are in no way close to BNL or even Jennings County for that matter speed and talent wise but I sure hope the best for Madison they deserve success I hope they continue to put in the work to improve.

I do feel that New Albany with a great sophomore class can continue to improve and pull off a win or two and compete for the section title they are in as the season progresses.  Jeffersonville remains a head scratcher for me as they have the speed and ability to compete.  I thought they were improving effort and discipline wise under Glesing and for the conference sake I was sad to see him leave.

With how BNL had played their first two games offensively I was nervous going up against JC they were much better than Madison I thought after watching the two teams play in back to back weeks.

So after East & Floyd I don't know how you'd rank the rest of the conference

I have my opinions but since this is a fact base thread I'll wait to see how others rank it halfway through 😂

Sectional probably comes down to FC/BNL. Homefield could be a factor.

  12. Floyd Central 23

    Jeffersonville 6

More good defense for Floyd Central. But Wenkers Wright, who came into the game 2nd in the nation in rushing, was really bottled up. Floyd has shown a lot better passing game lately. Tristan Polk has been doing a good job. Their O-line has been inconsistent in run blocking. They’re well coached, but they don’t have a ton of experience yet. I’m not sure if they can move the ball on East TBH. Wenkers can pop for 6 at about anytime, but if he’s running into a wall next week, then there isn’t much he can do. Jeffersonville has some size and athletes. It’s amazing that they can’t get that program going.

NA has lost several players to St. X/Trinity in Louisville. It's been a big problem at NA, and Jeffersonville too for many years. Now, I know that some of this is NA's fault. The lack of coaching consistency and staff have certainly contributed to the problem. For many years the NA administration didn't really fight transfers much......there is only so much you can do in any case. NA has a fairly talented group of sophomores playing varsity right now....the question will be can they hold on to all these guys? Part of this is also on the state of kentucky (lower case k is intentional 😉), who turn a blind eye to this stuff. My understanding is Trinity (the worst offender), has players on the varsity from 5 counties in Ky and 2 from IN.

Imagine if NA could have kept these players....all from NA.

Duece Finch- went to ST. X, then played RB for Boston College.

Nate Combs- went to St. X, then played LB and was a Captain for Army.

Jarius Brents- many schools in Louisville area. Was a KY state champion in track. Signed to play DB at Louisville, but was dismissed from team.

Rondale Moore- played 2 years at NA, then transferred to Trinity, now at Purdue and a star.

Stephon Herron- played at NA as a freshman, transferred to Trinity, now is a Freshman OLB at Stanford.

Finch and Combs would have been at NA at the same time. Brents, Moore and Herron would have been teammates as well. It's a sad state of affairs, but there it is.

That has been a MAJOR blow to NA football. I’d like to see NA get back to being a good program.

    BNL @ Seymour

    Jeff @ FC

    Madison @ JC

    East @ NA

    Anything? Anyone?

    1. Seymour. I really like Coach Kelly. They have a terrific RB too.

    2. FC. Floyd has a better defense, and although Jeff has speed, I’m not sure they have Wenkers Wright speed.

    3. Madison. I’m intrigued by their new coach. I think he will improve their program.

    4. East. They’ll name the score.

Good luck to all HHC teams!

  15. 3 minutes ago, btownqbcoach said:

Again... why would Ctown go to that conference? What do they gain?

That’s a good point. They probably wouldn’t gain anything.

To be completely honest. I’d just like to see Madison and JC get it figured out. That’s the best solution. It seems like Madison has found a coach that has given them a spark. What about JC? How many kids do they have? 1500 or so? There shouldn’t be any reason they can’t compete in the HHC. I guess it’s about finding the right formula. I don’t coach HS football so I have no idea how hard that turnaround would be.

  16. 3 hours ago, Frozen Tundra said:

That's true. But when Jennings County and Madison complained about having to play every HHC team in football, my response would've been to suck it up or leave. My next move would be to try and find one or two other schools to replace them to avoid non-conference scheduling difficulties. If that didn't work out then I'd be contacting Conference Indiana to work out a similar scheduling deal with them like they have with the Circle City Conference. Many HHC teams have or have had a history of playing CI teams anyway.

They need to replace JC and Madison with Silver Creek and Charlestown. Both of those schools can compete in the HHC in every sport. Neither team can beat East in football obviously but they can pull their weight against the other teams. Silver Creek is extremely good athletically. They would add a lot to the HHC in many sports.
