According to Sagarin, Brown County (2A) ranks #301 out of 315 eligible teams in Indiana. The only worse teams in southern Indiana are:

    #302 Mitchell (2A)

    #303 Cambridge City Lincoln (1A)

    #304 Union County (2A)

    #305 Edinburgh (1A)

    #308 Phalen Academy (unclassified)

    #310 Indianapolis Washington (4A)

    #313 Crawford County (2A)

    #314 Irvington Prep Academy (unclassified)

I wonder why they’re so bad? Nashville should have some decent kids up there. I guess the culture is bad.

  2. I’m pretty happy for Coach Bragg this morning. He’s worked hard and he needed a win like that. He said this team had better leadership than the past 2 seasons and it showed last night. To call a trick play with 1 second left in the game to win was a gutsy call. I told you all about this Isaac Kaiser, 6”4 and he out leaped about 3 guys to get the game winner.

  3. Floyd Central won that game the exact way they lost the Seymour game last season. Nonetheless, it’s a win our program needed BADLY.

Floyd Central has a pretty good offense with some good weapons but their pass defense is struggling. I’m not sure why because there are experience DBs in that secondary. If they don’t get that solved the game against Seymour in a few weeks could be a game in the 40s.

    Saturday’s HHC slate:

10:00 AM - Brown County at Jennings County

12:00 PM - Christian Academy of Louisville at New Albany

7:00 PM - Seymour at Jeffersonville

7:00 PM - Terre Haute South vs Floyd Central (@ BNL)

Bad deal for Floyd Central. Lost a home game where it looked like they’d have a pretty good crowd on hand. Now at BNL, it’s a crapshoot. I felt confident that Floyd would win tonight.

Geez man. Two weeks in a row that they can’t hold on.

It’s obvious that BNL is close.

We had Salem in like round one or two last year in the tournament…..big hole to dig out of.

Yep. Not an easy place to win. I have some family attending the school and athletics can be a struggle there.

Kentucky isn’t in the Midwest 😉

I agree with that! Ok, let’s call it, the “Northern South.” 😆

    This week’s games (week 2):

    BNL (0-1) at 5A #9/#10 Bloomington North (1-0)

Brown County (0-1) at Jennings County (1-0)

3A #1 Christian Academy of Louisville (1-0) at New Albany (0-1)

Columbus North (0-1) at Columbus East (0-1)

    Seymour (0-1) at Jeffersonville (0-1)

Terre Haute South (0-1) at Floyd Central (0-1)

    Notes:

-Bloomington North’s ranking is #9 in the media poll and #10 in the coaches poll.

-Christian Academy of Louisville’s ranking comes from the KHSAA media poll.

Bloomington North. BNL has a good team though.

    JC. Panthers by a lot.

CAL. They’ll name their score against NA.

Columbus North. They’ll win the battle of Columbus.

Seymour. The Owls will win big. They have a really good team.

FC. I think my Highlanders will get it done at home. THS is nothing to write home about and Floyd Central had moments of competitiveness against one of the best teams in the Midwest.

BNL controlled the first 2.5 quarters of Friday night's game.  Martinsville, with their big line and RB, wore down the BNL defense the last quarter and a half.  We were gassed.  They scored the go-ahead with 3 minutes left in the 4th.  We dropped a wide-open pass in the endzone that would've given us the lead with a minute left.

I actually watched highlights of that game because I’m always pulling for th HHC teams in non conference. Shrake from Martinsville reminds me a lot of our RB Mitch Bernardi.

As we head into conference play this week, I decided to throw out a prediction on how the standings will shape up this year. This will probably be completely wrong but I’ll give it a shot.

    1. Seymour

    2. Floyd Central

    3. BNL

    4. Columbus East

    5. Jennings County

    6. Jeffersonville

    7. New Albany

I can definitely see that. I think FC having home games against Seymour, BNL, and Jennings County is a big advantage. But as always, that trip to East is worrisome.

Honestly, the way this conference is, we could beat Seymour and then go up to Jeffersonville the next week and get beat. That kind of stuff happens all the time around here.

  9. I didn’t get my picks in on time. I’ll try to do better next week. I did however make the trip to Louisville St Xavier. I tell you what. St X is a legit football experience. They run their show like a championship football program. Just so impressed seeing their facilities, their organization, their huge stadium, the people tailgating. I mean it’s a big deal in Louisville. Way more impressive than what I’ve seen over at Male. St X was the dominant force I figured they’d be. But I came away pretty damn encouraged by what Floyd Central did over there. They could’ve easily made this game a lot closer. They were able to run the ball pretty effectively against a pretty stout defense. Their O-Line is pretty big and having Bernardi back is a godsend. He showed off his speed and power several times including a couple long kick returns. Way too many drops by their WRs on some pretty well schemed passing plays. A couple of turnovers inside the 20. Some pretty bad punts that gave St X great field position. All in all, I think FC can play a whole lot better than they did tonight and if they do they’re going to win a lot of games.

BNL moved the ball well and found the endzone a lot.  Mitchell didn't find the endzone until halfway through the 3rd rotation (option B) against reserves.  BNL subbed JV kids last 5 plays on the 15-play first rotation, last 5 plays of the 10-play 2nd rotation, and last 6 plays of the 12-play 3rd rotation.

Takeaways: We made lots of mistakes, and still performed how we were supposed to.  I believe we came out injury free. Mitchell had a huge gate.

Do you think Loudon will throw the ball more or will they run more of an Spread option attack?

Anybody know how last night’s scrimmage went for their team?

I watched Floyd Central vs Charlestown. It’s always so hard to tell from these scrimmages because nobody really gameplans for each other. But if I were just throwing something at the wall, I’d say that our offense looked substantially better than it has been the past few seasons and defensively we have some things to work out with run defense. We have 4 starters back on the OL and it showed. They pretty much mowed down Charlestown and Robertson had all day to throw the ball. He threw some beautiful passes. Everything was right on the money. His go to guy Kaiser is 6”4 and has a lot of speed. He’s one of our basketball studs. They missed Bernardi last season but he looked like a machine running the ball against a 3A team. I thought we did well and had a lot of guys sitting out because of practice eligibility.
