Perhaps something is lost in translation. Apparently there is a cheap Mexican Restaurant in the Floyd’s Knobs area called the Cactus, tell us more?

In the greater metro area of Seymour we do not have such a restaurant, however we often refer to the local El Nopal as “The Cactus” because well, you know. IO actually has his own bar stool at multiple locations now. Cheapest place around to drink, I highly recommend the fishbowl margaritas, I typically go for the pitcher myself it’s a little better value. 32oz domestic drafts 5.50, imports 6.50. One of the few bars you’ll find Modello Negra on tap.

Sorry for the confusion. Yes, we have a restaurant called the Yellow Cactus on Paoli Pike in Floyds Knobs, I highly recommend the next time you visit the area.

  2. Not much on Conference Championship implications this weekend outside of FC/BNL. East can lose tomorrow and they would be ok, but obviously they want to bounce back. Jeff/NA is a good rivalry game but they’re basically playing for pride right now. With all due respect to JC, I don’t see Seymour losing at home tomorrow. I expect FC and BNL to be a great game. The thing here is that BNL is at home and they’ve been playing well. They’ll be motivated tomorrow especially since they’re in the conference race. Memphis Loudan is a very good QB. BNL is a good team IMO. Floyd Central has been playing really good defense and I think their team is built around that. The East win really rejuvenated our community. I know the East fans are disappointed in their program but this goes to show you how much respect you guys get. El Nopal in Highlander Point looked like an episode of Friday Night Lights after the game. I think the big key for tomorrow is for FCs program to kind of put that game in the past and not come out overconfident tomorrow. BNL certainly isn’t going to overlook them.

  3. It hurts because Floyd Central is one play away from beating Seymour. But on the other hand, could’ve been one play away from losing to East? But I agree with you guys. The HHC has become competitive and it’s actually enjoyable for a lot of people.

Yeah I think the lack of skill guys was very evident last night. It’s why I wasn’t critical of this loss like I was the first two. Granted, Whiteland and Columbus North were much tougher opponents. The issue I had, though, was the mismanagement of substitutions that either led to penalties or unnecessary timeouts. That seems to have gotten cleaned up since then.

I try not to be critical but it’s hard. I was spoiled watching East dominate the HHC for 17 years. 13 of those years they were a threat to be a semi-state team at the very least. Even during the run, we all knew it could come to an end at any time but we didn’t expect it to go on as long as it did. I think that makes it harder. Nevertheless, nothing ever stays the same and context matters. I’m trying to be better and I think I have been.

While this team likely won’t make it far in the tournament, I’m at least going to enjoy how the rest of the regular season goes. I think it’s going to be fun seeing three teams chase at least a share of an HHC championship. It hasn’t been this competitive in a long time. 2006 was the last time a conference championship was shared. 1990 was the last time it was shared by three teams.

You’re a better fan then I am. I’ll give you that. It took me going into the Lions den to earn some of my dignity back.

I’m not too confident in East though. They have the toughest remaining conference schedule of the three and I believe could end up losing either or both of their final two HHC games.

    East

    Week 8 - vs Jeffersonville

    Week 9 - at BNL

    Floyd Central

    Week 7 - at BNL

Week 8 - at Jennings County

Week 9 - vs New Albany

    Seymour

Week 7 - vs Jennings County

Week 8 - at New Albany

Seymour has the easiest remaining schedule. They play the two worst teams in the conference. It’s their HHC championship to lose.

    It’s interesting stuff.

  5. Great win for the Highlanders. I did get to meet Coach Hess and Coach Bragg after the game. I couldn’t have met two nicer people to be honest. I know football.  But these guys educated me on how things work around the program and I have a much better understanding. And I told them that I’d tone it down on here so I expect you all to hold me to it! Lol.

I wasn’t really participating. I just like to analyze football.

I wouldn’t be “shocked” if Floyd Central won tonight. But to be honest, recent history isn’t on their side. So I take no offense to anyone who views this game as a win for East. It’s up to Floyd Centrals program to change that narrative.

@Fkfootball and @swcgillespie didn’t submit picks last week. Are you guys in this week or are you throwing in the towel?

@FkfootballI’ll be at the game tonight. Be great to put a name to a face. I’ll be on the sidelines, outside the 20. Probably in jeans. Green FC coaches shirt and once it gets chilly, a red hoodie or maybe 1/4 zip. I have a large band tattoo on my right arm. Bald guy with a goatee. Every down there knows me, so I won’t be hard to find. @Impartial_Observerbe happy to meet you as well.

I know who you are. Lol. If I get the chance, I’ll talk to you.

From my view of the situation…I could see (not hear) him jawing at the Floyd players and received a flag for that. He then turned and said a few things and was being very animated towards the official for throwing the flag. At that point the official threw another flag and he was then ejected.

It seem He was pretty frustrated during that second half of the game.

He’s playing on a team that has 0 wins and I imagine that he’s probably pretty frustrated. I get it.

Yeah he’s a great guy and I’ve been a fan of his since day one. He’s the first guy there in awhile that I feel truly wants to change the culture. I really like how he hasn’t been afraid to challenge the status quo and bring outsiders in. When you’re known for losing, it doesn’t make much sense to bring insiders in. More often than not, if Jennings County athletics is all they know then they’re just going to come in and continue the losing.

You mean all your hires don’t have to be internal? And no, this comment has nothing to do with the Head Coach at Floyd Central. Just an observation.

  10. I’m actually looking forward to East/Floyd Central. We played 2 teams well above our level(Male, Manual.) 2 teams a little below our level(SC, Jeffersonville.) And one team that matches up evenly(Seymour.) East is a better team than Seymour. But not close to the level of the Louisville schools. I expect if there were a line, East would be favored by 14-21 pts. Something like that. So this is an opportunity to see if our guys can finally matchup with them physically. We haven’t been able to do that the last several meetings. We should be getting some guys back this week from injury, hopefully. I liked how hard they played in the 2nd half against Jeffersonville. Hopefully they’ll bring that kind of effort on Friday.

  11. Some good news.

Over at Floyd Central, the Highlanders have been without junior running back Mitch Bernardi since their season-opening loss to Louisville Male. Bernardi, the team’s top rusher last season, has been sidelined by a back injury the past three weeks.

“We’re just trying to keep our head above water,” said Bragg, whose team was without 13 players, due to injuries and/or suspensions, in last Friday’s last-second loss to Seymour.

Bernardi could return this Friday night again
