  1. 2024 Season look ahead

Im not going to put out an order of finish because I don’t see much separation between several teams. I feel confident that between BNL, East, FC, and Seymour, that one of those 4 teams will most likely be conference champs. It doesn’t mean the other 3 can’t suprise, but it’s not expected.

BNL-Maybe the deepest team coming back. Louden, Hughes, Bates, Gates, Childs. They bring back all of their skill guys. Barker is a good coach. They’ll be up at the top.

East-They have come back to the pack. It was expected after the loss of one of the best coaches in Indiana history.

FC-After 2 mediocre seasons, I’m hoping this is the bounce back season. Robertson is a 3 year starter at QB, Bernardi back at RB, an experienced OL, several athletic WRs, and an All State LB, I’m hoping for a conference and sectional championship this season.

Jeffersonville-Coach Parker has made them more disciplined but they are a long way away from being competitive. You’d think that having 2200 students would give them plenty to work with? You’d think?

Jennings County-They were better last season. They beat us up there. If they get to .500, then they’ve round a gem at HC.

New Albany-Coach Cooley is a veteran HC and a really good offensive mind. But they’re still trying to replace that generational class they had. They have a lot of good athletes at New Albany so they’ll find some good skill guys, but their football program has a ways to go, going down to the lower levels.

Seymour-Could be the best of the bunch. Perry is a rock solid QB. Their WRs Pennington and Hilleman are really good. They get their TE Jaylan Johnson back. They’ll have the best passing game in the conference IMO. Well coached team.

I can confirm TJ Newton is not from Jennings County and was hired from outside for the HC position.

Thanks for the correction. I thought I had heard he was from within the program.

I noticed today that Kyle Bragg is the only current HHC coach that has a winning record as an HHC coach. That’s a pretty sad stat for our conference.

    1. Kyle Bragg (29-24 in 5 years at Floyd Central)

    2. Steve Cooley (84-86 in 16 years at Jeffersonville and New Albany)

    3. Derrick Barker (10-11 in 2 years at BNL)

    4. Tyson Moore (13-17 in 3 years at Seymour)

    5. Eddie Vogel (8-12 in 2 years at Columbus East)

    6. T.J. Newton (3-7 in 1 year at Jennings County)

    7. Isaac Parker (8-21 in 3 years at Jeffersonville)

It’s James Bragg. But overall records don’t mean much to me. I think Tyson Moore at Seymour is very good. But one thing I’ve noticed is, that none of these programs have hired their current HC from outside the school.

Can’t lie. I’d love to see this game now. Brownstown wouldn’t be the walk in the park some think they’d be.

I’m not saying we’d win everytime. Brownstown is good. I’m just saying that’s a team that I would like on the schedule. Coach Bragg was telling me, when they’ve tried to schedule 3A teams, people act like they’d be scheduling Cathedral. One coach from Kentucky said “You guys play teams like Male and Manual, so there is no way we’d compete with you.” 😆. Perspective is everything.

  4. That game was more of a 3 score game. Unless we count the garbage time TD with 30 seconds left.

“Following a scoreless third period, the Highlanders put the game away midway through the fourth quarter with a 52-yard scoring drive. Andrew Gibson pounded it in from the 5 to cap the march and put Floyd up 27-7 with 6:24 left.

The Dragons added a late touchdown — with less than a minute left— on a 1-yard run by Wyatt Hoffman.”

FC beat them by 2 scores lol ...

Btw.. that was SCs worst team in the last 8 years, congrats on beating them, I guess.

SCs best player transferred away before last season.. if we are keeping track of every single little thing.

Neither team was that good. But I haven’t been impressed with Silver Creek the 3 times I’ve seen them. But I guess as terrible as the HHC is, they’d compete in it.

No clue what the future holds, I have been told multiple times from multiple administrators they have no interest. They have upgraded their schedule but the bottom line is, it’s a whole other world when your schedule goes from Eastern, Scottsburg, Corydon, etc., to Columbus East, FC, Jeff, Seymour, BNL, etc. Can they compete against FC in their game this year, most likely, but they’re not ready to do it every week.

Floyd was average at best last season and blew them out of the water. Silver Creek looked pretty small. Reminded me of Madison.

  7. Floyd Centrals 98 team was their best team. They lost in the Regional to the Otis Shannon Cathedral team by like 8 points. My cousin was the top WR on the team. They had All State RB Kyle Samons who ended up walking on at Louisville. Todd Bertrand was a really good QB. They had like 3 guys on their OL that were at least 6”3 300 Lbs. I believe guys on that team made up the state Powerlifting Championship team. All those guys were jacked.

Best coach was Ron Wiegleb. I mean the stadium is named after him. Never got to State but had a lot of consistently good teams.

Best player was Kyle Bramble. He was a one man wrecking crew. Ridiculous athlete. I heard he’s like a Bio-Chemical Engineer now. The dude won the gene lottery.

My son was throwing with a couple of Seymour receivers last weekend and they were both hard working and talented.  Kyle and Josh(?) I believe?

Seymour also has Jaylan Johnson, who could be a top receiver in the state this upcoming season.  I'm not sure how good their QB is but if Seymour can pass the ball then these three could cause some serious problems for teams.

Their QB is Brett Perry. And he’s good.

  9. I can’t complain too much about the schedule. This is the most favorable schedule that I can remember FC having.

    No Louisville Male or Manual.

Unfortunately a road game at St X which is tough.

Home games against Terre Haute South, BNL, Seymour, JC, and Silver Creek.

Road games against St X, East, NA, and Jeffersonville.

    I’d take that every season.

Our fans barely have to travel.

My guess is conference games are long term contracts, thus in an AD’s mind set in stone. The only real changes you ever see are with conference changes. Why does CN/CE always play week 2? You know what finding football opponents is like, and jiving up who needs a home game, and the myriad of other factors.

The MSC isn’t the same way?

I do think some ADs get lazy. But Coach Bragg explained to me last year how hard it is to find opponents and schedule around teams. Seymour couldn’t play them in 2021 because of Covid so he was trying to schedule a game on short notice. Some team down in Kentucky said they wouldn’t play them because they must be good since they play Louisville Male and Louisville Manual(those have since ended), and coach was like, “Man, my team is 0-3 right now.”  ended up getting Daviess County though a few days later.

    Yes it is.

He asked, "why can't it be switched up every other year" and I replied with "why does it need to be"

I don't understand why it would ever need switched.

That's ridiculous. It makes no sense, there's no need, to just randomly switch up the schedule.  What purpose would that serve?

I agree with you. I’ve just heard that some ADs get lazy with this stuff. And for the record, I am not talking about Floyd Centrals AD. He’s pretty active.

Does anyone know why HHC games are scheduled in the same exact order every single year? I’m not talking about non-conference games. I’m aware each team has designated weeks for conference games. I’m just asking why, for example, I know year-in and year-out that Columbus East gets Seymour in week 3, Jennings County in week 4, New Albany in week 5, Floyd Central in week 6, Jeffersonville in week 8, and BNL in week 9. Why can’t it be switched up every year or every other year?

    One word. Lazy.

  12. Since I’m itching for football season, like everyone else on here, I figured I’d start a “waaaaay too early” discussion about 2023 HHC Football.

A lot of things can change over the summer. But as of right now, I’d probably place Seymour as my #1 team. They’re the defending champs. Perry, Pennington and Johnson who should be healthy I think, that’s a tough trio. My top 4 would be Seymour, BNL, FC, and East. Not necessarily in that order but that’s my top 4. Last season Seymour, BNL, and JC took a step up. NA and East seemed to take a step back. FC and Jeffersonville looked maybe marginally better than the season before. Floyd Central has the most favorable conference schedule. They get Seymour, BNL, and JC at home. NA, Jeffersonville, and East on the road. East will be their only conference road game considering their fans usually are 50/50 at NA and Jeffersonville. BNL will be a tough team this year too. Louden, along with Perry, and Robertson should be the top 3 QBs in the conference this season. I can’t give much of a preview on these teams because I’m not exactly sure just yet who all these teams will have except maybe FC a little bit, but we are replacing some guys just like everyone else is as well.

I saw your guy Brian Glesing took yet another coaching job. Five jobs in seven years and he sat out one of those seven years. It’s almost becoming comical at this point.

Glesing had a pretty decent program going at FC. I guess the bickering parents got to him. It’s the only job he’s had for more than 4 seasons though.

He had a handful of solid seasons when he was there. I have a picture out of the CJ of him ripping me during a TO at Charlestown in a tournament game. Let’s just say we’ve never exchanged Christmas cards.

On the bright side of things not sure he has quite the hole to dig out of that he had in Shelbyville.

I have a kid at Salem. It’s probably a better fit for Glesing. He always seems to have success at those kinds of schools, (FC, Clarksville, Paoli.) Power running type of coach. They should be fine with him.

Corydon is an interesting school. They have a tradition of producing some athletes. Their track team historically ranks among the best in the MSC. They also were relatively flush with cash as opposed to their county rival. Boat money seems to have leveled the playing field a little bit. I just don’t see SC or Charlestown moving to a big school conference in the near term.

Their football program was good under Darin Ward.
