Perhaps a public reprimand, but not a suspension.

It was incredibly unprofessional conduct by a journalist. Giving heart signs to a female basketball player then compounding it with what he said. You can't do that as the "columnist of record" for the Star.

Another overreaction by the Indianapolis Star.  Color me shocked.  It is like them virtue signaling by not using the word "Indians" when referring to the Indianapolis Indians baseball team,  they just use something like "The Indianapolis minor league baseball team."  Lame.

I don't think it was an overreaction. You can't say what he said. If he had left it after the gesture (which was weird in itself), then it would have been just awkward. This was more than awkward. It was creepy and unnecessary.

  3. To me, it seems like the transfer rules are applied unevenly. Some rather eyebrow-raising ones sail right through. Others that seem like slam dunks are held up or denied or have to go through the courts.

I don't have a problem with the one free transfer as long as undue influence is not allowed. I also think what some schools do...which is right on the line...needs to be reviewed. Finally, you should be scrutinized if you are a lay head coach with AAU ties.

Doyel hasn't been active on Twitter in nearly 10 days...for a guy who loves himself that seems kind of odd.

    Too good to be true?

Bob Kravitz is reporting Doyel is serving a two-week suspension and is expected to return on Monday, 5/13.

It hasn't been reported (to my knowledge), but I understand the topic was brought up to some extent in the recent meetings. I don't have any knowledge of the finances at any school except my own, but it seems to me the big difference between NIL in college and HS is that the NCAA and colleges profit off of the athletes. To my knowledge there aren't any TV contracts, etc. that generate significant funds for HS conferences and jersey sales, etc. for individual schools. I don't see that at our school. We pay to have our football games streamed on Indiana SRN, not the other way around.

If a kid is 18 and makes a deal with the local pizza joint to appear in their ads, let's say. I could see that being a thing.

As chaotic as ever. Can't wait to see the matchups for Sectional 5. What a snooze fest, AmIright? 🙄😂

If you ever wanted or NEEDED reasoning to seed the BIG class, look no further than Sectional 5. There's probably a few sectionals beyond Sectional 5 that make seeding make sense for ALL classes but not sure we'll ever get there, unfortunately...

The Central Indiana 6A Sectionals are pretty easy to make sense. I was just hoping they weren't going to reinvent the wheel. When Carmel dropped to the South, BD had to go to the Sectional with Tech, Southport and Perry Meridian. That was great for the trophy case, but it wasn't so good for those squads. Warren is in that boat now. With Cathedral up to 6A, you can't put WC in with NC, LN and LC.

The one that never made sense to me was when Ben Davis had to drive past North Central to be in the Sectional on the Eastside with LN, LC and Warren. That configuration had Ben Davis playing Avon in the Semistate. Seeding is a different kettle of fish. There seems to be no desire to do that from the IHSAA.

I'm certain the defense got through the game (physically) unscathed! Mentally––very, very scathed. I suppose you could argue we didn't have a single able-bodied player from the opening kickoff given the results.

We for sure had one unreported head injury on special teams––of course those were the dying days of the bell-ringing era.

I know that it was a different time back in the days when you would "see stars". I remember the old AD at Tech, Frank Craig, telling me about his first meeting with my father at Indiana Central back in the 50's. Apparently, my dad knocked him out cold in practice making a hit. He said that when he came to that my dad was standing over him saying, "Freshman, are you ok? You alright?" He said that always stuck with him that my dad was so concerned about him.

Football used to be different! Not saying it was better either. It's probably good that we pay attention to, you know, brain science.

The only thing slowing BD down is the grass. You get them in the perfect indoor environment, and it's lights out. I'll argue day and night that turf favors the faster team. I think Westfield would have suffered the same fate at Crown Point. I could be wrong, just my take.

Hardly anyone in 6A plays on grass these days in Central Indiana. I'd have to go back and look to see the last time Ben Davis played a game on a grass field. It may have been when Terre Haute North and South were in the MIC.

I don’t think Westfield was on the level of BD, Brownsburg or CG.  But I still thought they were a tier above Crown Point.

I know it was a very small dataset, but you could see in the scrimmage that Westfield was going to have trouble against Ben Davis. They could not keep BD's defensive line out of their offensive backfield.

He for sure has 3 accounts on there (based on all of the evidence/ posts). I think two of the accounts are in the current "hot topic" on that forum and even invited the 3rd (main account) to the party. After reading here and reading there, I think he's having a grand ole time "stirring up the boards." Lol

Sometimes it's fun to have the pot stirred.

I think Ben Davis's gauntlet through the playoffs last year is what ended up putting them over on CP. BD took CP's best shots and still walked away with a 28 point win.

Ben Davis was a really good football team last year, but Brownsburg or Center Grove could have won it all too. The Giants were just a little better/luckier on that particular night. It was going to be one of those three or even Cathedral in 6A. Respectfully, no one in the North was going to win State last year as good as CP was.

Well, I am bored here at work trying to keep myself awake at the moment. So, I have been trying to figure out who the 16 North Schools will be with some of the changes that have been made due to enrollment and success factor.

Warsaw went down and Snider moves up. Harrison has joined 6A and Cathedral remains in 6A as well.

With Snider moving up, this could be an all Fort Wayne sectional.

Sectional 1 could easily be Portage, Harrison, Lake Central and Crown Point.

Sectional 2, 3, and  4 are where some changes may come about.

Possible outlook for Sectional 2: Penn, Elkhart, Carroll and Northrop

Possible outlook for Sectional 3: Snider, Homestead, HSE and Fishers

Possible outlook for Sectional 4: Carmel, Westfield, Noblesville and  Maybe Zionsville.

Penn and Elkhart make things muddy with them sitting in the middle of the state. If Valpo would have moved up We could have seen Valpo and Portage back in sectional 2. The Fort Wayne schools are almost interchangeable in regards to placement in either sectional 2 or 3. In Sectional 4 for me it is hard to know which schools will likely be labeled a Northern school since they are all so close.

Ben Davis tends to be a tennis ball that gets bounced around. In 6A, the Giants have been paired with Avon, Brownsburg, Pike, Arsenal Tech, Perry Meridian, Southport, Lawrence North, Lawrence Central and Warren Central in Sectional. Personally, I think the Avon/Brownsburg/Pike configuration makes the most sense. Ben Davis has still never played Franklin Central even though they were paired in the same Sectional in 5A for a cycle.

  13. The trophy says IHSAA (Year) Football Champions (Class)

Which is accurate. They are the state champion of that class. Are there some years the 6A State Champion might not be the overall State Champion/superior team? It's plausible. I think if you win your class, you earn the right to be called a State Champion.
