I get totally what you are pointing to. I very rarely use Ben Davis vs Warren Central as a gauge anymore. It is a classic Eastside vs Westside rivalry game. Believe it or not Warren Central leads the rivalry between the 2 schools 58-35-2. Warren Central got a big lead in the series (like 36-12) until Coach Dullaghan got established there then they started playing catch-up.

    58-38-3 Warren...

It was 31-13-3 when Dullaghan took over. Dullaghan cut it to 39-29-3 before losing his last two. So, it was 41-29-3 when he retired.

You're right. This rivalry has been really good recently. Several games in the last 10 years decided by less than a TD...regardless of which team was the better one.

I know @Bash Riprock hates numbers but since the turn of the century, there have been 11 Indy vs non-Indy area state finals matchups in the state’s largest class and the average margin of victory is 32.8 points per game.

In fact, you have to go all the way back to 1996 to find a state finals contest in the state’s largest class that has finished with a one possession final score in such a contest.

Crown Point is likely just the next victim.

I know you likely know the BD program better than anyone else on this forum but can I flip the script a bit?

Is this just PC level coach speak on your part?  What makes you think Crown Point will be able to do what only two (Penn in 2015 and Snider in 2004) schools have been able to do in the last 20+ years?

History is not on Crown Point’s side.

Westfield was a big underdog and nearly pulled off the win too...I know...not really a northern team.

I don't know how to quantify it. I'm just looking at what Crown Point has done. They're destroying people they should destroy. I think Coach Buzea is a good football coach. I'm trying to give them credit for what they've done. I don't think folks should think this is going to be 63-14 again. Of course, if I'm wrong, I'd be happy to have you point it out.

I still have Carroll up there with, at least within the ballpark, of Crown Point and Penn. Too much stock is being put into their loss to Warsaw. Just like many on here thinking Snider is average since Mishawaka took them to the wire. Those are hard offenses to defend. Warsaw's time of possession on one drive was higher than Carroll's for the entire game. Again, posters are putting too much stock into "one" game. Warren Central almost beat Ben Davis. EVERY team has a week or two where they just don't play up to par. Some are too blind to see that.

I have a lot of respect for the time you put into your rankings. At least you throw it out there. I'm still going to take the easy road and put mine out there after this weekend.

By the way, I still think Brownsburg is the best team in the state. But I'll give credit where credit is due. I'm not sure anything can change my mind this weekend about not having them in at least the #2 position.

As of right now, I'm not sure how you measure the gap between Ben Davis and Crown Point...........unless we're going by how many miles they are away from Indianapolis. I really don't feel like getting into another transitive property debate. I'm just hoping for a good game, as I know you are too.

Warren Central/Ben Davis is a rivalry game, but you have a point. LC played BD very hard too.

Brownsburg or Center Grove could be playing this week. They were both good enough. Cathedral was too. But...they aren't. The other team in that echelon is...Ben Davis.

I expect we'll see a competitive game on Saturday. This BD team is really good though at full strength, and they are right now. Crown Point can't let them get in automatic mode like they have been a few times this year...where everything is working.

But has this Ben Davis team really “been there?”  I know I am sort of contradicting myself and I’m prepared for you to tell me I am wrong which is fine…but I think the Carroll/CG matchup last year fits that narrative more so than this one.

Now, if we wanna get into who has been more battle tested and ready for the moment, I’ll have that conversation.  The gauntlet that Ben Davis (under a FIRST year head coach) went through just to get to Lucas Oil may be unprecedented.  The argument could be made that Russ Mann’s squad just eliminated three future Hall of Fame coaches in a matter of four weeks!  I am not a region guy but default to others on the accomplishments of Buzea so we could very well be adding a fourth Hall of Famer to the “hit list.”

And that is not even mentioning Mike Kirschner who BD knocked off in the regular season, Moeller who is still alive in the final 4 in Ohio and a “moral victory” (hate that term) against IMG.

I fear Buzea’s squad is running into a BUZZsaw next weekend.

Ben Davis has an almost completely new coaching staff since the last state run. Pretty much everyone left when Kirschner left or was gone within a couple of years. The only constant is Kevin Vanderbush, and he's been there for all of them. I think Mark Zackery is about the only holdover otherwise. The rest were Simmons or Mann hires (I think). There were some guys who played for Coach Dullaghan on the staff in state games. But, you're right. This is largely a new staff and, obviously, team.

I don't know how many people have looked at buying tickets to the Finals on Friday and Saturday, but these fees are outrageous.

3 tickets priced at $15 a piece, after fees, are $67.40!!!  I understand processing fees and convenience fees, but $5.60 per ticket, plus the same price for a processing fee is just obscene.  I hope the IHSAA has a better way to handle this.

That doesn't even include the parking.

I thought BD would decline the penalty to avoid the harsher angle.  Obviously didn't matter.

Ben went to kicking camps all summer and was posting about the harsh angle drills he was doing. Paid off for sure. Hats off to the Trojans on a great run. I think it will get harder and harder to do what they've done as the competition continues to get more and more fierce in 6A.

    FG, not XP.  My bad.

Distance wise it was pretty much a PAT, but you wouldn't kick it from that angle. I didn't even realize what a good hold it was until I saw Kyle Neddenriep's video. Then, I think Channel 13 in Indy had a low angle. Pretty remarkable. Skibinski had to almost stand up. The snap was above his helmet it seemed. Rudolph never stopped either. Coach Mann explained that they put the operation under pressure a lot in practice, and it paid off there.

The only reason the IHSAA does it this way is for the money. It has to be because they have predetermined locations in many of the other sports. So why not football?

A suggestion: Change it to Neutral sites for one 2 year cycle similar to classification changes, track the revenue, cost and attendance vs current set up. Then determine path forward.

I think it would make sense to put the Semistate at neutral sites or at least come up with more equitable ways to determine who has home field, but I feel like we continue to argue and post about this here every year.

I'm not arguing with you. I bow to your infinite wisdom and knowledge, Mr. Cathedral.

I was imprecise in my language. You are correct on the locations of the games. "Many" and "Down" were the wrong words. I should have said, "We've seen a few teams from the North punch Central Indiana teams in the mouth."

Thank you for calling me out on my heinous crimes and misdemeanors. I will throw a french fry out the window in penalty.

Penn has ONE win on the road in the tournament against a central Indy team in the last 15 years.

HSE traveled to Carroll last year...

Snider won AT Westfield in 2014...can't find any other examples...

What are you even talking about?

I'm not arguing with you. I bow to your infinite wisdom and knowledge, Mr. Cathedral.

    What's your rationale?

I think Ben Davis is the better team. No disrespect to Center Grove, and it may not end up that way on the scoreboard, but I think BD, on paper, has more in the three phases. Now, Center Grove has plenty of state level experience to make up for all that. You can't beat the run they've been on. They expect to win. I just think that the Giants defense has been playing very good football. They have given up some plays, but they've been solid in the clutch. They've been turning turnovers into points. I also think this is a rare occasion when BD might have the advantage over CG in the kicking game. That's definitely played into things.

I have nothing but respect for Center Grove's program and its fans. Our teams have had a lot of battles over the years, and I think this will be another one on Friday night. If the Trojans win, like I said, hat's off to them. They will have beaten one of the best Ben Davis teams in the last 30 years.
