    Couple things:

    1. This is a funky recruiting year. I was told by a B1G coach that this senior class got screwed out of scholarship offers because all the D1 programs were forced to extend scholarships for a 5th year of COVID eligibility. When the NCAA granted the 5th year last year, it zapped 1000s of scholarships for this class. Cathedral has 2-3 kids that should have had Power5 offers in this senior class, but didn't. However, 2 of our juniors had them before the season started.

    2. Kendrick Gilbert, Cathedral's 4 Star junior DL, had B1G offers before the season ever started. He played maybe 10 snaps with 1st team defense as a sophomore. So, I think they look at dimensions more than anything on the field.

I think this is true for scholarship availability.  Also any senior on a college team gets an additional year. If the coach wants them back there may not be any scholarships to offer high school. Also the darn portals is another reason for limited availability for high school men. This could mean some lesser teams might get some better talent these next few years.

Best of luck to the young man.

Yea, but I’m not sure why he is choosing to leave? The Indiana coaching staff gave him Carte blanc as far as opportunities to be the starter.  Too bad he has to dump on Indiana. Not a good look for Penix.

  3. Also along these same lines, the marginal ,5 star ,kids have a lot more college choices  now ,to win a National championship than in the past. Although Alabama is one constant recently. Used to be the same characters ,schools, every year in the hunt for a mythical championship. And ND would get their share based on reputation.

Over. He'll do well. The better question is whether or not he gets a national title. I say yes. I just don't know if it's going to be 3, 5, or 7 years. Make no mistake, this man can coach football. He's good at hiring the right people to work within his system.

This. The man is driven. National title is what he wants to get. Loyalty is out the door. There is no deception here. He is taking on the pressures of the big show. He knows how to get there. And it ain’t at the has been institution ND. (For football dominance), them days is over for the Irish. Unless there is a scandal involved, I expect him to win one title befor retirement.

  5. Allen knew when he got the job he wasn’t coaching offense. Never was or pretend to. Thus the reason he  hired who he did prior to Sheridan. The Sheridan hire was a hire of loyalty, he wanted the job first, secondly we was on staff for both of the previous OC’s.  Allen wanted to give the guy a coaching break. Didn’t work obviously.Allen knows the coaching rank and file around the country. It’s if there is enough money to get the P5 assistant. Remember Wilson left Indiana, and within a year doubled his income as an assistant. So as Wilson, before Allen ,lost many top notch Defensive coordinators ,Allen’s Achilles is obvious keeping a good OC.

And it may never end for a program like Indiana has.

Indiana is in big trouble.  Rutgers and Illinois both improved this year, and will no doubt continue to do so under Greg Schiano and Bret Bielema.  Purdue has clearly surpassed Indiana.  The IU program has no identity under Allen.  Are we a throwing team? Are we a running team?  Are we strong on defense?  IU will win 5 or 6 games over the next two seasons and Allen will be out, and we start all over again.  Very depressing.

I can see this.  I can also see Allen landing another really good Offense play caller as were the previous two before Sheridan. A good offense keeps your defense off the field. Big problem this year. I’m thinking a few tweaks, involving a good coordinator , and Indiana is in the mix with Rutgers, Illinois Purdue, Minnesota and  Michigan State.

  7. So now the season is over what are the expectations for next year? 9 wins again? Big Ten championship, is what Allen’s statement said. He was setting the team up physically and mentally to win this’ thing. And then the injury bug bit.

    LOL…

”Indiana is the biggest threat to Ohio State in the Big Ten East.”

Congrats on your wins over WKU and Idaho.

And shows how much you know, you had IU winning 6 or 7 games. Lol

The 6A schools in The SAC have a much bigger problem than the round robin schedule.

In the case of Homestead, and especially Carroll, both schools lack the interior line size and physicality to compete against the top 6A schools in the state.  Neither school has a record of producing D1 linemen.  The current rosters are stocked with lightweights at the Guard and tackle positions.  The DAC has become more competitive at the state level because they have consistently developed big men over the past 5 years.  Valpo routinely has 4 or 5 players in the 270-310 range, 6-3 to 6-6.  Merrillville just a notch behind.  Michigan City has good size.  Chesterton as well.  Warsaw is similar to City and Chesterton .  Elkhart has good size.  Snider has some size, Demon Moore is a Big Ten lineman.  Why are Carroll and Homestead so far behind on big men?  My guess is both schools are behind in the strength and conditioning department.  Dinan and Zolman will tell you they have good weight lifting programs, but their rosters dont bear that out.  Until that gets rectified, it makes no sense for Carroll to travel down to Indy and get waxed by any of 10 metro Indy schools because they get pushed around for 4 quarters.

Let’s set the record straight, Carroll and Homestead are lightweights?
