  1. This is really not a game to talk about but it is Week 8. Eastern is on a rebuilding track I hope. It was fun watching them just a couple of years ago and I hope they reach those goals very shortly. Linton can not afford injury and still have South Putnam left. Tough game for Linton this one. I can just hear Dorothy saying      Auntie Emm   oh my. What do we do now? I'll call Linton by35 and a short game. Any thoughts?

This game will be homecoming for the Miner Faithful, and certainly a game North Daviess has circled every year as a barometer for how ND Football is doing.   The Cougars are 4-1  under 4th year Head Coach Brent Fine.   He came in to replace long time coach Scotty Helms, and a program once one of the area's best 1A programs. however, they'd won only 4 games in 3 seasons when Fine was brought it.  He toughed out a 2-8 1st year, and has had immediate impact as the Cougars went 7-4 his 2nd year.  As mentioned they have come into week 6 against the Miners riding on a 4 game win streak.. .and have not allowed a point in their last 3 big wins.

Linton comes in 5-0, and you gotta go back to 2010 for the last Cougar win in the series... and it was a doozie 73-33 shootout but the worst Miner defeat in a long time.  Linton would score 81 the next year in revenge at the Roy.  The scores have been pretty lop-sided in the past several meetings, and people who thought perhaps the 'trap' game was last week...might be better suited looking into this week's matchup.

Is this Cougar team for real?  Will the Miners be looking ahead at the warriors?  I think with the senior leadership it won't happen.. but these are kids ya know... it's hard to look at recent history and not think...this should be another blow-out... but... you play the games.  ND will have nothing to lose going into this...

    Well said and thanks.

I am not sure why you would think Southridge would not want to play Linton again. At the time the Linton vs. Southridge game was not renewed Southridge was 7-0 all time vs. Linton.

Somehow you have mistaken me. I don't know why either team would not want to play each other. Two great teams, coaches, and fans. Very similar in fact. Heck I love the matchup! Especially the SR whole sports complex. I can say I find it hard to believe the game was canx because of a lack of competition. More like wrong week in the schedule, travel costs, time or other considerations. I honestly believe the programs just couldn't work it out and agreed to amicably let it expire but sadly.

I hate that.  I thought having Southridge on the schedule exposed the Miner weaknesses Game 1, giving them the rest of the season to work on them.  In the past, Eastern was the first game, and the Miners got nothing out of those 50+ point blowouts.

I'm not concerned with any team that used to be Rockville.  This wasn't a good trade, maybe if they had been switched for NV, North Daviess, or Eastern.

Why don't you like the Boonville matchup?  We've already discussed the series at 1-1.  They are better competition than the 3 teams I just mentioned.  An hour and 45 minute drive is common for other schools in the state.

Pull up their record on Harrels and they haven't won a sectional ever have they? I dont dislike Boonville great kids. But a game playing a really run of the mill 4A team I see no value. Southridge has proven their a quality team. Saying this who knows they might beat the Miners by 30 tomorrow. Doesn't change my thoughts. And you did ask why   so I answered.

Holy Cow !  I wasn't aware of what the Miners were getting into.  I wonder if outgoing AD Charlie K got us into that or New AD Clayton is responsible.  Oh well, we probably can get out of it in two years.  Seriously, I think that game will be a good matchup for both teams and could turn out to be a good rivalry.  BTW, I remember when Rockville was actually a juggernaut back in the days when they were a six-man football power.

I agree Rex. Adding Rockville (oops) PH is not a bad deal. I just wished that game would have replaced Boonville is all. I don't know though, introducing Juggernauts is a scary thought! LOL....GO MINERS!

The Miners need to drop NV. Too long of a drive, either way, for a blowout.  Did everyone come out healthy?  If so, I can't see it being a game. The transitive property doesn't necessarily work in football, but I think it does here.  Linton > Southridge, Southridge > Booneville.   So Linton > Booneville.

I tend to agree with you on dropping NV. Reasons are a lil diff though. Miners are 2A now Falcons still 1A. Just a few years ago it was a very meaningful series both being 1A. Cayuga is a long trip but Boonville is longer and I see no benefit in that game either as value added playing a 4A school. Lotta better matchups out there but a lot of bigger, closer schools can't seem to happen.

  7. Linton 4-0  Boonville 0-3. Linton has played a pretty good schedule to date. Hasn't been blowing teams out until last week against NV. I might add I think NV is really having a bad year and I wish them luck soon. On the other hand Boonville has played a pretty good schedule as well. Never being blown out and a close one with NK last week. If the Miners take them lightly with most of their players suited up it could easily be. Any Thoughts?

I always admire the Falcons work ethic... and boy those first few miner-falcon games were battles I agree.  Linton can't come in and just go through the motions.  Plus... in this day and age... you never know who will be on the field week in and out.  A few key players can change the game quick.  I agree that Linton should be the heavy fave here but NV has put up big offensive numbers.  White had an impressive game last year for a soph QB.  If there is any kink in the miner D at all.. it has been in giving up some big pass plays... but that has not been nearly as evident in 2021 and with the pass rush much more prominent...Linton has vastly improved that aspect.  Now...I can't imagine NV putting up 32 points on LInton unless the JV defense is out there for a quarter.  They've only given up 42 in 3 games against the likes of Southridge, Sullivan and Monrovia.  I sure look forward to going to NV..always a friendly rockin' environment..and Martin and Brian are always is fun to talk with!

I can't see Linton giving up 32 either. Maybe 20? Might be all the Falcons need to pull it off. But if I were a betting man....Well I shall refrain.

  9. Some of the best sammiches you'll ever find at a HS football game. Been a long tradition. If ya ever watch a video thats the smoke you see from the grills.Ribeyes and various other great stuff. I understand now the student body does it as a great fundraiser. Watching from your lawn chair you brought from the end zone. Ribeye sammich, soft drink in hand, watching both stands go crazy, It don't get no better than that at the Roy. One common goal....just to watch HS football.

  10. The Miners did the same with Sullivan. Both of them are very good football teams (Southridge and Sullivan) but its very early in the season. I hope its not a conditioning thing. Miners really need to start generating 1st half scores. As teams become more conditioned and cooler weather that edge will be gone. Monrovia is yet another very good team so if you wait till the 2nd half to turn it on you might just run out of clock. We all have seen that happen before. Just a thought.
