I could also see Columbus East getting into this new conference. Saturday games, great idea, unless PU or Indiana has home games. How do we circumvent the potential conflict?

    Conflict is constant...

East will not be invited.  Commissioner DT makes the call on all invites.

The CN-CE rivalry ends with this conf realignment.

    Impeach!!!

  2. Having the Lafayette schools in a conference with Bloomington, Columbus could work.  The travel might even ease up a bit as Anderson, Muncie, and Richmond aren’t exactly next door...

I went to mapquest: Lafayette to both Bloomington and Columbus is a little over 100 miles.  Muncie is also a little over the century mark, while Richmond is 135.  I kind of like this idea...

This is my mystery team.  Certainly I don't disagree with their ranking.  After all it is for recognition purposes only.  And they are deserving of this recognition.  But they basically had a 3-game season.  West Lafayette, Harrison and Lawrence Central.  They passed those tests. Barely!  And all 3 scored a lot of points.  You can convince me that they can score points, but it will be hard to convince me they can stop the top teams in 6A defensively.

Seems that Jeff is to the NCC as New Pal is to the HHC.  But they don't play conference foe Marion, 20-2 in their last 22 games, which could have been a good test.  New Pal has proven themselves, Jeff is going to have to do it right away against Merrillville in the sectional 1 opener.  Win that game and a lot of doubts will be erased, and a semistate matchup with either an Allen Co. school or a Hamilton Co. school could be waiting.

Someone educate me on what they do well.  Defense?  No!

Jeff--Merrillville should be an interesting one as I don't  know what to think of the Pirates either...

so if I am correct,  all the OL has to do is throw their head back violently and you will fool umpires into BS hands to the face penalties?

That seemed to be the case last night....

In 50% of our 6 classes (Classes 1A-6A), there is a game being played the first round that might well have been a game that should have been played in LOS on Thanksgiving weekend per Sagarin (and I’m tired of hearing all of the bonehead b!tching about Sagarin....as if some polled Sportswriter or Coach in Angola knows ANYTHING about the relative strength of a team in Evansville or vice versa.....give me a break).

    6A: Sagarin #1 Avon v. Sagarin #2  Brownsburg

    3A: Sagarin #1 Chatard v. Sagarin #3 Brebeuf

2A: Sagarin #1 Lewis Cass v. Sagarin No. 2 Pioneer

Rather than football fans being able to enjoy the ability to see these games live, they will as likely as not be watching some 2-7 teams pound away at each other.....with one of them actually living to play another day.  While 50% of those 6 teams cited above Seniors will be turning in their gear having played their last game ever.

Teams and kids that have spent years honing their skills to play at the highest levels in their class denied the chance to play in a high profile and electric  Sectional, Regional, Semi-State or even State Championship game.

    No.

We would rather let ping pong balls decide....because “it’s the only fair way”.

Its flatly wrong and we all know it.

And don’t give me this crap about “Football Gods”, “Sh!t Happens”, etc., etc.

This situation exists because WE allow it to.....not some fictional Football God.  We are just too damn lazy and indifferent to do anything about it.

If we really are honest to God fans of the game why do we tolerate this?

Never, I repeat never anger the football gods...

That's only because we continue to allow it to happen lol. If this were any other state in the country, Avon gets a protected seed or bye and they aren't playing the second best in the state the opening weekend. Avon/Brownsburg is only allowed to happen because we continue to allow it to happen. That's why I'm advocating change, to make the regular season actually mean something.

I see your point, but stodgy institutions/cults like the IHSAA probably don't deal with change well.

It's not about proving how tough your team is, it's about making the regular season mean something. What value is there in a conference title that doesn't get you a protected seed or a bye in the first round and at the very worst doesn't even guarantee you a home game in the first round? Avon is a game away from going undefeated in one of the toughest conferences in the state. Their reward? Drawing an away game against the second best team in the state the opening weekend. It's maddening. It's wrong. Show me another sport at any level where a conference championship doesn't impact your postseason draw. You can't.

As I have always maintained, no one gets all the cards.  Sometimes the football gods are on your side, sometimes not so much...

Ok, I am a Hoosier who relocated to Illinois 15 yrs ago. Now I am stuck here! Lol

I don't have a ton of knowledge yet on HS sports here, mainly football, but my son will be entering HS next year, and it has made me start paying attention the last few seasons.

First off, the Illinois season starts one week later than Indiana. So any changes to the playoff format, would likely simply be addressed by moving the start of the season up one week.

The new proposed plan has many parents scratching their heads here, as most fans truly don't understand the idea of more teams making the playoffs (God forbid they all make it).  The high number of High Schools in Illinois is balanced out with 8 classes of roughly 32 playoff teams in each class.  So basically cut out one round of Sectionals (which here is Regionals the. Sectionals).

The ultimate goal is to cut down the amount of travel in the first two or three rounds of playoffs.  I personally believe they all end of pre-assigning Districts of 8 teams, and the top 4 in each will make playoffs.  I do NOT think they will ultimately end up having a set deal where those 8 teams will be required to play during the regular season.

Lastly, some asked why football playoffs should be set different than any other sport.  The answer is simple.  You can play 4-5 heck even 6 basketball, soccer, baseball, etc games a week. 3-4 wrestling meets with a wrestler having 10+ matches in a week.  But playing more than one football game a week is too much to ask a HS kid.  My kid plays 8th grade football and is starting on both Defense and offensive lines.  Even at that age, he takes at least two days to recover and ice the bruises.  We have all either seen or felt that exact thing.

Sorry, brother.  I was a prisoner for 15 years, but made it out.  Whereabouts are you?
