Although I’m trying hard to keep this non-political, this next one proves I can’t: the Effingham (IL) Flaming Hearts. Being they are located in that heavily taxed state, Bleeding Hearts would be more appropriate.
Business as usual for the Freeburg Pretzels, Lake Forest Scouts, and Schaumburg Saxons…
I’m a fan of nicknames that protect and govern our beloved land—Cadets, Generals, Minutemen (plural mind you😉) Senators, Governors. But no Presidents?!? And don’t anyone bring up the Lewis Cass Kings…
Other favorites of mine include the La Porte Slicers, Avon Orioles, Edgewood Mustangs, Switzerland County Pacers, and the Vincennes Lincoln Alices.
Lest we never forget the Martinsville Artesians, Attica Red Ramblers, and the Rensselaer Bombers.
Actually Coachella Valley HS has the Arabs as their handle, while our own Pendleton Heights HS is nicknamed the Arabians…
Creativity! Cavaliers, Owls, Zebras, Bronchos (with a H), Kougars (with a K), Argylls, Jimmies, Mavericks, Railroaders—dazzle me!
Or how about some new ones? Conquistadors, Jackalopes, Kangaroos, Ocelots, Scorpions, Tarantulas…
Spot on! I can’t stand the overused Bulldogs, Cougars, Eagles, Indians, Panthers, Spartans, and Trojans. Heck even, my Alma Mater of South Newton has many teams within of state nicknamed the Rebels. Then again, Roncalli HS ditched it a few years ago.
Yup, as I was saying I was very fortunate to travel extensively this summer:
Texas—New Braunfels Unicorns
Florida—Key West Conchs
Michigan—Watersmeet Nimrods and Ironwood Red Devils😉
Illinois (although it’s 5 minutes away)—the Marco Polos, New Trier Trevians, and Teutopolis Wooden Shoes.
I’m aware we have some cool ones like Cavemen, Millers, and Spark Plugs but just want to bring a few more into the fold…
Time for my daily meds!
