Before Muda gets mad at me, I better eat some crow. Our Frankfort became linked with the Frankfurt in Germany (which is way better than the capital of Kentucky) and the Hot Dog name evolved. Another story is that the FHS basketball was being a Lafayette (not sure if it was Jeff, McCutcheon, Harrison, etc.) and a newspaper reporter referred to them as Hot Dogs and the name stuck. Name calling does create other insteresting nicknames. Purdue University and Wabash College used to hook up on the gridiron regularly with the squad from West Lafayette dominating the contests. This caused a writer for a Crawfordsville news writer to angrily refer to the Purdue squad as “boiler makers” as he accused Purdue hiring day laborers. Just think of it, if he would have been taking his medication, the sports teams at Purdue could be known as the Sagamores, Prophets, Rambling River Rats, or something else with local flavor, although I think Astronauts would be pretty cool.

Actually, it has a great story behind it. What we call FrankFORT was named in honor of FrankFURT in Germany. The Hot Dog moniker generally evolved. Weirder yet is the Logansport Berries. They adopted Felix the Cat, an anthropomorphic black cat with white eyes, a black body, and a giant grin in 1926. Incidentally, Felix is from London, England.

I wonder who’s next? Frontier, North Newton, Tri-Country? Even North White, West Central, and even South Newton could surprise... it will get even saltier cone the MWC expands...

Although I was only half-joking, that statement will transcend time and won’t be going anywhere as Glenn Edward Schembechler was a respected man. Even Woods Hayes was going to speak at an event right before his death. I know I’m probably going to catch a lot of hell for this, but he’ll be remembered more positively than Bobby Knight.

I do agree that the NCC is a there-headed monster, but this game ranks a lot higher than playing Andrean on a Friday fall night. This the State Finals and think Hobart will find another gear to keep the game close. Will they win? Not sure on that one, but I will not surmise a blowout.

The NCC is a good league at the Brickies rep them well. They did go down to Merrillville earlier in the season and they’re Sectional final game against Lowell was nowhere close to the bloodbath everybody and their mother (notwithstanding yours truly) was expecting. I do like the Bricks’ chances, though.

I place very little stock in Sagarin. Do his models reflect heart, desire, questionable calls, and weather (although that’s not a factor this time). That would be a no. There are so many elements computer models are blind to, suit up and play. There’s your data, the final score.

It’s all good. I understand the need for a level playing field. But, I also realize sometimes life ain’t fair. Ultimately, everything is cyclical and the ship will be righted as I can recall the days when Pioneer and even Caston were easy outs in league play while Frontier and to a lesser extent, North White were top dogs.

Home of the Rebels and my alma mater. Although things are a little bleak for Coach Bevis and the boys right, even the darkest night shall end and the sun will rise.
