The only people who would give this preposterous claim any credence at all are those who, because of their personal political predilections, don’t understand federal criminal sentencing, don’t understand the function of an appellate judge, and don’t care enough to actually learn about those subjects before they pass along that tripe. My understanding is that per the CBA, you cannot be compensated for time spent under suspension. ”Fully guaranteed” means that if they cut him after 2 years, they still have to pay him the full value of the contract.

The interesting thing about the contract … other than it’s fully guaranteed … is that his base salary in year 1 is only $1 million. So, if he gets suspended for, let’s say, half a season, he’ll only lose $500K, instead of $23 million.

Let’s see if he can play. I don’t see how that’s possible. If he can’t, the rest is moot.

I found it interesting that his contract with the Browns is a 5 yr. deal, but his base salary in year 1 is only $1 million. I assume that’s because they know he’s going to be suspended at least part of that year, so the salary he doesn’t get when he’s suspended will be insignificant compared to the rest of the contract. NFL, the ball is now in your court, so to speak.

Deshaun Watson to the Browns. 5 yrs., $230 million, fully guaranteed. Baker Mayfield now is going to get his trade wish. With Watson and Amari Cooper, what does that do to the Browns’ chances of keeping up with Joe Burrows and the Bengals in the division? And where will Baker Mayfield end up?

If we’re talking about marketing the game to new fans, perception is all that counts. And the DH is a small piece of the puzzle in terms of tweaking the game to appeal to a new generation of fans.

Cry me a river. This is what happens when the inmates run the asylum. Now you’ve got a QB who is making $50+ million … and no one for him to throw to except his pet, washed up buddy, Randall Cobb.

You’re ignoring the “opportunity benefit.” DHs put the ball in play more than pitchers. And there is always the possibility that something will happen vs. watching the pitcher go up there, take his three, and sit down. DHs may not hit as well as the average position players. But they are a much tougher out than the pitcher. As for statistical analysis of the effect of the DH, I don’t have to do it. The owners, who have a lot more at stake than you or me, have already done that. That’s why they voted to expand it to the NL.

At a time when baseball is declining in popularity, and failing miserably to engage younger fans, baseball should be looking to inject more action into the game. This is a step in that direction. For that reason, I support it completely.
