  1. Eat your hearts out. Wings went in the smoker about 30 minutes ago.
  2. The Big Game Sunday has many interesting story lines. But I’m always interested in what people are chowing down on, to match the excess that is [usually] the Super Bowl. I’ll be brining, then smoking, about 10# of wings, finishing under the broiler to crisp them up. Two homemade sauces: sweet Thai chili and a raspberry habanero that will get - and keep - your attention. Augmented by a nice, chunky blue cheese dipping sauce.
  3. https://www.nfhs.org/articles/blocking-below-the-waist-in-free-blocking-zone-addressed-in-high-school-football-rules?ArtId=470237 Blocking Below the Waist in Free-Blocking Zone Addressed in High School Football Rules By NFHS on February 05, 2021 nfhs news Share Print The rule regarding blocking below the waist in the free-blocking zone in high school football has been revised for the upcoming 2021 season. This rule change was recommended by the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS) Football Rules Committee at its January 10-12 meeting, which was held virtually this year. This change to the 2021 NFHS Football Rules Book was subsequently approved by the NFHS Board of Directors. As a result of numerous interpretations of current language regarding blocking below the waist in the free-blocking zone, the committee approved another condition in Rule 2-17-2 that must be met for a legal block below the waist in the free-blocking zone, which is a rectangular area extending laterally 4 yards either side of the spot of the snap and 3 yards behind each line of scrimmage. The new requirement (2-17-2c) is that the block must be an immediate, initial action following the snap. Under the current rule, an offensive lineman can delay and then block below the waist if the ball is still in the zone. In the committee’s ongoing quest to minimize risk in high school football, the change was approved to require the block to be immediate. “This change makes it easier for game officials to judge the legality of blocks below the waist and minimizes risk of injury for participants,” said Bob Colgate, NFHS director of sports and sports medicine and liaison to the Football Rules Committee. “This change lets game officials observe the block and make a call without having to determine where the ball is and what formation the offense lined up in.” Blocking in the back continues to be legal in the free-blocking zone by offensive linemen who are on the line of scrimmage and in the zone at the snap, against defensive players who are in the zone at the snap and the contact is in the zone. The committee noted there has been no criticism of the current rules governing blocks in the back as they are delayed blocks by nature, above the waist and considered to be a safe and necessary legal block. “I believe this rule change will help make the interpretation of blocking below the waist consistent across the country starting next football season,” said Richard McWhirter, chair of the NFHS Football Rules Committee and assistant executive director of the Tennessee Secondary School Athletic Association. The Football Rules Committee is composed of one representative from each of the NFHS member state associations that use NFHS playing rules, along with representatives from the NFHS Coaches Association, NFHS Officials Association and NFHS Sports Medicine Advisory Committee. A complete listing of the football rules changes will be available on the NFHS website at www.nfhs.org. Click on “Activities & Sports” at the top of the home page and select “Football.” According to the most recent NFHS High School Athletics Participation Survey, 11-player football is the most popular high school sport for boys with 1,006,013 participants in 14,247 schools nationwide. In addition, there were 31,221 boys who participated in 6-, 8- and 9-player football, along with 2,604 girls in all four versions of the game for a grand total of 1,039,828.
  4. Yes, they need more WRs, right @DE?
  5. 😂🤣😅 You’re killing me!
  6. Unless it’s actually public information, it’s probably the better course not to use the “rumor mill” as a source when referring to peoples’ jobs on the GID.
  7. I guess they didn’t come close enough to getting fired this season. That will surely do the trick. The current franchise tag for QBs is about $27 million. You can get 3 competent offensive linemen, and have some change left over from that. The thought of paying that to Mitch makes me throw up in my mouth.
  8. And what do you think the market is for a FA Mitch? Nobody likes him as much as Pace and Nagy.
  9. It seems so obviously unconstitutional. We’ll all be in trouble if simply being a jackass becomes a crime.
  10. Word is that Kelly targeted him as soon as there was a whiff that Lea might leave for the Vandy job. Might be the best hire of Kelly’s era. That or Harry Hiestand.
  11. There’s a very interesting separation of powers issue there.
  12. I wonder how he managed to win state championships at two different schools, then? That’s not exactly common. Perhaps there was an official story, and then the real story.
  13. That’s not the reason. If being unable to beat Hobart in those days was a firing offense, there would have been a lot more turnover in the DAC.
  14. The Chosen One has arrived! https://247sports.com/college/notre-dame/ContentGallery/Tyler-Buchner-Notre-Dame-Football-In-Depth-With-Notre-Dame-Quarterback-Signee-159902915/#159902915_5 In-Depth With Notre Dame Quarterback Signee Tyler Buchner In only a few more days, La Jolla (Calif.) Helix high school four-star quarterback Tyler Buchner will arrive on campus at Notre Dame and officially become a student-athlete in South Bend. The 6-2, 207-pounder has been committed to the Fighting Irish since March 8, 2019 and has never wavered on that commitment he made to offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach Tommy Rees, as well as head coach Brian Kelly. Prior to his arrival on campus, Irish Illustrated caught up with Buchner for a detailed look at what he’s been up to, his excitement level regarding his future at Notre Dame, and much more. ON HIS EMOTIONS KNOWING THAT HIS TIME AT NOTRE DAME STARS THIS WEEKEND "So, we're moving in this weekend. I couldn't be more excited to go to Notre Dame as a student and also as a football player. I can't wait for the next three or four years at Notre Dame and I'm excited to kick things off," said Buchner. "It's been a long time coming and couldn't be more excited to have the opportunity to go to a prestigious school like Notre Dame and then for the fact that it's actually coming and I'm gonna be there next week, it's crazy. Leaving home and all that stuff is not always fun, but I couldn't be more excited for the next chapter in my life." ON WHAT HE’S BEEN WORKING ON OVER THESE PAST FEW MONTHS TO PREPARE FOR NOTRE DAME "A multitude of things," said Buchner, when asked what he's doing to prepare to join the Notre Dame football team. "I've been watching a lot of film, learning the playbook for the mental side of things, been running, lifting, throwing as much as I can and just staying as busy as possible. All my friends are still in school, so I'm the only one who's off. All my buddies who go to college are all at school, so I'm pretty much home here on my own. Everyday I got 10 hours to get work in, so I try my best to take full use of each day." ON THE ADDITION OF WISCONSIN GRADUATE TRANSFER QB JACK COAN TO THE NOTRE DAME ROSTER "I remember my dad had mentioned something like, 'Hey, you should probably expect them to bring in a grad transfer.' He brought it up a while ago, like months ago, and I sort of figured they'd do something like that. I couldn't be more excited to have Jack in the quarterback room. I know he's super experienced and knows a lot about the game, and I can't wait to play beside him and obviously learn a lot from him. I'm really excited to have him as part of Notre Dame and to play with him. It's going to be a lot of fun." ON HIS RELATIONSHIP WITH OFFENSIVE COORDINATOR AND QUARTERBACKS COACH TOMMY REES "We've always got along since day one and it's only gone up from there. He's obviously a great coach and the offense looked really good this year. I'm excited to get there and really get things rolling. I think that's kind of just the mood right now between us. We're both like, 'Alright, let's get it going.’” ON HIS GOALS FOR HIS FIRST YEAR AT NOTRE DAME "I think among those goals are to enjoy my freshman year. That's one of them. I want to have fun. I want to get to know everyone at school, make friends, and enjoy being a freshman. Also, I have goals on the football field. I want to be the best, obviously. Everyday you want to be the best, right? Everyone has that goal. That's one of my goals. I want to work as hard as possible and I want to get better. I think those three things are my main goals and will always be my goals. Get better, work hard, and things will work out. I'm excited to really get to work and the only expectation I have of myself are to just keep working." ON THE DISCUSSION SURROUNDING HIS LACK OF STARTING QB EXPERIENCE IN HIGH SCHOOL "Everyone who says that has a pretty legitimate argument in my opinion. I think they're right," said Buchner, when asked about the critics regarding his lack of playing time throughout high school. "I didn't have a senior year. I was hurt my sophomore year. They have a legit — it's not like they're making stuff up. Those are all facts. I think they have a legitimate argument, but I know myself better than anyone knows me and I know what I'm capable of. I know how hard I've been working these past couple of months. I feel like I'm in the best spot I've been, so I feel great. I think to all the people who don't think that, I think it's fine. They have a great argument and I'm not going to counter it, because I haven't done anything yet." ON NOTRE DAME BRINGING IN ARGUABLY THE NATION’S TOP OFFENSIVE LINE CLASS "I can't wait. Blake, Rocco. Pat, Caleb, Joe, all those guys are studs. They're all studs and I can't wait to play behind them. I think Notre Dame has done an exceptional job of recruiting and developing offensive linemen over the past couple of years and I know we'll do great things together. They know that I'm excited. They're great guys and great people. I'm excited to spend the next couple of years with them."
  15. I think the fact that both Pace and Nagy are still here means they are all in on Trubisky... for one more season. If that’s the case, please, please, pretty please address the offensive line issues.
  16. Unless the school corporation has some policy against it, I can see this happening.
  17. Seriously? This is really out of the blue. Glad to hear that Coach Buzz is healthy enough to take this on. Crown Point just became a Duneland contender.
  18. I have always said that the best football player I ever saw was Jim Brown, with Walter Payton a close second. But if Brady somehow wins two more games, that is going to change.
  19. It's a teaching moment. That's all. That's what the Officiating Forum is for.
  20. This is a point well worth noting. The philosophy JR explained has been in effect at the collegiate level for a while, and is thankfully beginning to trickle down to the high school ranks. If the man in motion beats the snap by turning abruptly upfield early, that “simulates the start of the play” and is properly called a false start, not a live ball foul for illegal motion. It’s always better to shut the play down, if there’s a reason.
