  1. Yes, this crew is doing an excellent job. ... Knock on wood. 🤣
  2. The Cathedral punter is the grandson of a very well known retired official, who now works as an observer. I know, because I was sitting with him most of yesterday. There is no connection with any of the officials on this game. This crew is not from the Indy area.
  3. The taunting is unsportsmanlike conduct, which is always enforced like a dead ball foul, i.e., from the succeeding spot, regardless of whether it occurs during or after the play.
  4. One of the primary factors in distinguishing roughing vs. running into is whether the contact is on the plant leg or the kicking leg. Here, although the contact was not huge, it was on the plant leg, which points in favor of roughing due to the higher risk of injury.
  5. Andy is wearing the white hat here. This is the crew at the 2017 North-South All Star Game. Andy was also the crew chief I worked with for my last season on the field. Great guy. Great official.
  6. Agreed. It was a late hit that should have been called. It would have made for an interesting enforcement, since there was a live ball foul on the play.
  7. You can hear a pin drop in this place. Cart on the field and they’re putting a kid on a spine board.
  8. what a terrific football game. Those teams played their hearts out.
  9. Everyone see the player still running onto the field during the try? What did you think of that?
  10. A lot of time left in this one. I expect 3 more scores.
  11. what about these numbers?
  12. You can take the boy out of Highland, but ... .
  13. My understanding is that it turned out they did not figure enough people to take temperatures as people were entering, compounded by the fact that some of the thermometers didn't work.
  14. Not only that, I understand that the back judge on that crew and the head coach at WEBO both have brown eyes, and the umpire shops at the same Krogers as the mother of the kid who was interfered with! The implication you are trying so ham-handedly to foster is silly. You're embarrassing yourself.
  15. Opinions vary. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BzFCnHc8KU0
  16. Wow, I could write a book on that. SHort version: Every crew that applies for the playoffs is assigned a score which is a combination of experience, test scores, meeting and clinic attendance, observer evaluations, and coaches' ratings. Crews are advanced through the playoffs according to those scores, adjusted for a "new blood" process which insures that there are a certain number of crews in the finals every year that have never worked the finals before. It's much more complicated that that, but those are the broad strokes.
  17. Just trying to educate people on some points of officiating that they don't, and couldn't be expected to know, from time to time. But you can only educate people who are willing to be educated.
  18. Yeah, I wouldn't have been too proud of that post if I'd made it, either. Makes you look kind of like a whiny baby. I bet if you asked the admins nice they'd take it down, so no one else who feels the need to dig through this thread looking for hours old comments will see it.
  19. Ineligible receivers downfield was, indeed, a point of emphasis this year, likely because of the increasing prevalence of RPOs.
  20. Then you haven't seen enough of my posts. If you're talking about this specific play, I don't think the DPI call could be called unreasonable by anyone. Some might not have called it. But no one can really say it was unreasonable to call it. As for the receiver stepping out, I have no idea. Perhaps the reason I agree so often with the call on the field is that they usually get it right. But I have not hesitated to call out officiating errors on this forum where warranted. I won't hesitate to do that. I just don't see an error here. This crew did make a few errors, but no one on here has raised them. If you do, I'll be happy to comment and concede that they didn't work a perfect game.
