  1. Nope. The Mercy Rule supplants normal timing rules. Exactly.
  2. Without the benefit of the full record (appellate courts are often accused of only quoting parts of the record somewhat selectively), I’d be just guessing. I’m not very well-versed in federal criminal law and procedure.
  3. I dinged 2 crews I observed during the tournament for not knowing this rule. For the unbelievers, the rule reference is 3-4-3: “ART. 3 . . . The game clock shall start with the snap or when any free kick is touched, other than first touching by K, if the game clock was stopped because: “i. The penalty for a delay of game foul is accepted.”
  4. In high school football, the game clock does not start until the ball is next snapped or free kicked following an accepted delay of game penalty. No exceptions.
  5. Do not interpret the language of Judge Parker’s (no relation 😃) dissent as advocacy supporting the principle of juror nullification. The relief sought by the government in the Court of Appeals was a writ of mandamus. This is an extraordinary remedy that is rarely granted, since it amounts to an appellate court interfering in an ongoing prosecution in a district court ... something judges are extremely reluctant to do. Judge Parker’s dissent was as much about letting district judges fashion their own remedies for what they view as prosecutorial overstepping as anything else. Even he could not be assumed to support the very controversial principle of juror nullification. In fact, his dissenting opinion contains the following: “Whether Judge Underhill went too far is debatable. But because this case does not come close to meeting the exacting standards for mandamus, I respectfully dissent from the majority’s grant of a writ directing the District Court to allow no arguments for jury nullification.” (Emphasis supplied.)
  6. I don’t believe that’s accurate. It’s certainly not the case with the game clock, and I don’t know why they would be different.
  7. The correct timing mechanic is for the covering official (B in high school) to watch the play clock until it hits 0. Then you look for the ball. If it hasn’t been snapped, blow the whistle and throw the flag. But you don’t need to be in a hurry to do that. This is one foul we hate to call.
  8. Tried to muster some outrage on behalf of Michigan. ... Failed.
  9. It’s OK to judge anyone. That simply means you’re allowed to have an opinion. Opinions are like noses: everyone has one ... but some are better than others. You can have an opinion - make a judgment - but the quality of that opinion or judgment depends on the information available, and your ability to properly process that information. For example, you may judge something to have been a fumble, as opposed to an incomplete pass, and you may even have all the information needed to make that judgment. But if you don’t have the education, training and experience to process that information and make the proper judgment, you may get it wrong.
  10. All I heard when I read this aloud was “blah, blah, blah ...”
  11. Notre Dame behind USC? You’re dead to me.
  12. Yes, it’s called “the Internet.” That’s what we do.
  13. 3-yr Northwestern starter and team captain, Ben Skowronek, from Homestead, has entered the transfer portal and announced his grad transfer to Notre Dame. This is a big get for the Irish, the icing on the cake for an early signing period that was an unqualified success. This is a quality receiver who will be a huge step on the road to filling the void left by the graduation of Chase Claypool — who I predict will be a star in the NFL within a few years. Notre Dame Lands Graduate Transfer WR Ben Skowronek By Matt Freeman January 1, 2020” 21 2,900 Tweet Share (33) Jump to Discussion Brian Kelly stated Notre Dame's recruiting class could grow on the offensive side of the ball in December and it did on Wednesday night. Northwestern graduate transfer Ben Skowronek has committed to Notre Dame and will provide much-needed experience and leadership to the receiver unit. Skowronek racked up 110 catches for 1,417 yards and eight touchdowns at Northwestern over the last four seasons. The Fort Wayne (Ind.) native only played in three games in 2019 after suffering an ankle injury early in the year. The 6-foot-4, 215-pounder took an official visit to Notre Dame following The Echoes banquet in December. Stay tuned to IrishSportsDaily.com for more on his this pickup for the Irish. Stats 2016: 8 catches, 70 yards 2017: 45 catches, 644 yards and five touchdowns 2018: 45 catches, 562 yards and three touchdowns 2019 (3 games): 12 catches for 141 yards
  14. I beg you ... don’t go there. It’ll be OSU vs. Clemson all over again.
  15. Pretty accurate, in a “big picture” sense. I would love to see Texas and Nebraska reinvigorate their programs. College football would be the better for it. USC ... they can disappear for all I care.
  16. Apparently, you are not sufficiently insightful. 😅😂🤣
  17. He’s the new Joe Paterno. Self-righteous, holier-than-thou.
  18. I know that video of the two controversial plays was posted somewhere, but I can’t locate them. Can someone point me to them?
  19. Although Dabo turns my stomach, I’m going to be rooting for Clemson in the championship game. If they win the title again, it’ll make it all that much sweeter when the Irish take care of them next November in South Bend.
  20. When people equate an officiating error with “getting screwed,” it is offensive to every official, and to the team that worked hard and deserved to win. I’m not saying the two plays you referenced out of a couple hundred in the game were wrong calls. But if they were, they were honest mistakes, just like missed blocks, bad playcalls, incorrect reads, etc. It’s a game played - and officiated — by human beings. Mistakes, on all levels, are a part of the game. Learn to live with it rather than calling “foul” (no pun intended) whenever a slow-mo replay from an angle no official had reveals an incorrect call.
  21. No love for the Irish? I know they have fallen short against the very elite recently. But they’ve won 33 games in the last 3 seasons and not many Power 5 programs can say that.
  22. The implication - to me - was that the “questionable” calls were made by an SEC crew that was biased in favor of Clemson, seeing Ohio State as the greater threat to an eventual LSU national championship.
  23. The implication in your post is unwarranted and offensive.
