2A North Semi-State ANDREAN @ EASTBROOK
Bobref replied to captainobvious's topic in The Indiana High School Football Forum
Not necessarily. There are several ways the officials can handle a situation like that which would have prevented the defense from illegally consuming time. -
Legitimate question, but what’s your alternative proposal? If it involves changing from a 2 to 4 year cycle, I’m pretty sur3 that has been fully explored in previous threads, and there’s nearly universal agreement that if you’re going to have a success factor system, a 2 yr. cycle is too short.

4A Semi State Hobart at East Noble

I disagree. I think the winner will be the team that gives up fewer points. 😅🤣😂 -
Not just a terrific official, but also a social psychologist! https://www.simplypsychology.org/maslow.html

There are a number of “potential “ benefits. As always, some schools take advantage, and some don’t. Speaking in general: Not as many kids have after school or weekend jobs that detract from their ability to be involved in extracurriculars. Kids can afford to go to clinics and camps in the off season. The schools can afford to pay more and better coaches, and there’s not as much coaching turnover. Don’t discount the advantages of better nutrition and more stable family situations. Ditto for facilities and equipment, which you seem to dismiss.

This is the kind of whiny sour grapes that is very uncharacteristic of a classy program like Lewis Cass. -
I think elimination of any foul that is even tangentially safety-related is unlikely in the current “risk-minimization “ climate.

Hoosier Conference 2019
Bobref replied to Punttheball's topic in The Indiana High School Football Forum
If anyone is actually interested in what the rules have to say on this subject: “Fighting is any attempt by a player or nonplayer to strike or engage a player or nonplayer in a combative manner unrelated to football. Such acts include, but are not limited to, attempts to strike an opponent(s) with the arm(s), hand(s), leg(s) or foot (feet), whether or not there is contact.” “PENALTY: Arts. 1, 2, 3j – Fighting, intentionally contacting a game official, striking, kicking or kneeing – (S38-47) – 15 yards and disqualification.” (emphasis supplied) -
Any time the penalty is accepted for a live ball foul, other than an unsportsmanlike or nonplayer foul, the down is replayed unless the enforcement results in a 1st down, or the foul carries a penalty that includes either loss of down or an automatic first down.

Assuming the facemask foul occurred after the reception, it’s 1st and 2. The 5 yd. penalty is enforced from the end of the run and the down is replayed. If the facemask occurred before the catch, if accepted it’s enforced from the previous spot and the down is replayed, so it would be 1st and 5.

I am not prepared to second guess the people on the field on the basis of that very brief, less than optimal angle, video clip. -

He took a swing, which is ejection-worthy in itself, whether it connects or not. -
You have got to feel for Tua. A hip dislocation is not just a season-ender. It’s potentially a career-ender. Even if the imaging does not show a fracture, the concern is that the dislocation compromises the blood supply to the head of the femur. If that happens, the articular cartilage dies and you have a condition called “avascular necrosis.” That’s what ended Bo Jackson’s career. This will absolutely affect his draft status.

The dirt on Cathedral fans, parents ,alum.
Bobref replied to southend's topic in The Indiana High School Football Forum
A couple of seasons ago my Ohio alma mater, St. Edward, traveled to Indy to play Cathedral. @PHJIrish invited my wife and I to join the Cathedral tailgate. I have never seen such great hospitality, respect, and sportsmanship from a collection of high school football fans. They are truly what high school football is all about. -
The long awaited New Pal vs Cathedral matchup

I wouldn’t call it “hate.” At bottom, it’s grounded in “envy.” -
Heritage Hills 12-0 at Lawrenceburg 11-1
Bobref replied to DaveMosbey's topic in The Indiana High School Football Forum
I was at the game tonight, on the sideline, and have personal knowledge concerning the “bad” call on the L-Burg pass that was called out of bounds. Discussed it with the crew after the game. Here’s the skinny: it was, in fact, the wrong call. The receiver did have the ball with a foot in bounds. But ... The right call wouldn’t have helped the Tigers, because the receiver stepped on the sideline while running his route, just before the catch. The correct call should have been a foul on L-Burg for illegal participation. A 15 yd. penalty from the previous spot and replay the down. Make of that what you will. -

Did the round trip. And you’re right. That’s quite a hike. Had a nice time. That’s a very nice facility they have there. -
Dwenger at Harrison 5A regional
Bobref replied to Mebuck's topic in The Indiana High School Football Forum
We had to go to the AD before the game to move the Dwenger crowd back. They had filled the visitors bleachers and flowed down to the field. One of the top 5 games I ever worked. Real slobberknocker that went right down to the wire. -
Hobart vs. New Prairie
Bobref replied to Boilernation's topic in The Indiana High School Football Forum
I’ll be honest. I saw Hobart many times in their heyday ... and I saw them many times after they got bad. What with their coaching turnover and the changing demographics in the area, I did not foresee them getting back to this level. It’s a real tribute to those kids and that coaching staff that they have. -

I think he would have had an even better HS career if he hadn’t been required to play QB as a senior. Not his natural position. -
219 Lake County Hosting 3 big Regional Games
Bobref replied to Coach Nowlin's topic in The Indiana High School Football Forum
And if you’re talking about the 219 in general, there are teams in the final four of 4 different classes. Is NWI football coming back?
