Tonight was pretty bad and while @BDGiant93has skin in the game and sometimes sugar coats things, Warren took advantage of some pretty damn head scratching decisions from BD tonight.

Not that it matters but I walked away from the game (and am still sitting in my living room typing this) in disbelief.  I still cannot clearly state whether or not Warren won the game or BD let it get away in losing it.

Didn’t see it so can’t really comment on it, but saw they blew a 22 point lead and then later a 13 point lead with less than 2 minutes to go. Credit Warren for never bowing out but that question kind of answers itself.

They’ll likely outscore LN next week before losing to Carmel, then win big against two bad teams in LC and North Central to get above .500 for the first time this year, but I just don’t see any progression out of the Giants.

How’s that?  They’ve been in the semi state the past two years and just lost to one of the best teams in the state.

Is there serious progress? He has a losing record through 4.5 seasons. Is 2-3 this year with a team yielding almost 40 ppg and just inexcusably blew multiple double digits in a single game against an arch-rival that he’s 1-3 against. Highlight of the year is playing Center Grove close for a half. The two teams he’s beaten are a combined 0-10. Is that acceptable at Ben Davis?

  3. 37-13 final. Bulldogs made it interesting there for a minute. Irish we’re up 17-0 early in the 2nd with blowout written all over it before CN recorded their first 1st down which also resulted in a TD on a 4th and long pass. From there, and stop me if you’ve heard this before, Cathedral sputtered multiple redzone opportunities due to lack of execution and penalties.

Need to credit CN for hanging tough and making it a 4 quarter game. Most people, including myself, believed this would be a walkover and it certainly wasn’t after it appeared that way through the 1st quarter.

Yes. Game scheduled for Arlington. Center Grove is starting to sound like the new Carmel. Pampered. We'll still serve you caviar, but wear your flak jacket.

To be fair, it was a Roncalli fan who started the post.

Cathedral may not have their own home field on campus, but they ought to rename Roncalli's stadium "Cathedral South" as the Irish haven't lost there since 05.

His comment of crappy grass field is the laughable thing. Not every team is capable of affording and playing on the luxurious turf fields of today. Not every grass field is crappy either. As far as a game of this magnitude, whats to say either team has anyone important even playing in this game.  Bragging rights? I dont think CG even cares. If all play, this will be the closest game they will have played, but with the grind that CG will have gone through, they might just sit players to have 2 weeks of rest before the season that actually counts in Indiana starts. Cathedral might do the same with sitting players. Who knows.

But to complain about ACTUALLY having to play on a Grass field. Get over yourself.

Nobody is going to be sitting any players in this game as has been the case the last 6-7 (or however many) meetings that have all been classics aside from the one CG blowout. This is a huge game for both teams and for the second year in a row will be the marquee game in Indiana by a large magnitude.

Agree with everything else though, playing surface won't have an effect on the game as both teams are playing on the same surface and the field is well-kept anyway. Should be another classic.

Phenomenal? Not sure I would call Tech phenomenal. It’s solid. The pressbox looks like middle school and there are trees growing on top of it. Lots of seats and a nice field service but I’ve seen players walk a long distance to the lockeroom and I’ve heard stories about the awful small outdated pressbox. There are many stadiums I would put first before I call tech phenomenal.

I think Tech has one of the best atmospheres in the city. Very, very cool stadium on a very nice campus that has an extremely old school feel. Playing surface is fine and there is more than adequate seating on both sides. As a fan, not to concerned with the locker rooms or press box, just there to watch football and Tech is a great place to do it.

I think you need a dictionary.... what is actually ironic is that Cathedral in all their self described greatness doesn't even have a field.  Your comment is laughable. LOL.

They have a field that they pay to service and maintain professionally. It's located at Arlington, hence why the game is being played there.

    Try again.

Tech is at Kokomo that week. Played there plenty of times in the past , I have 0 dog in this fight just saying I think a game of that magnitude deserves a little bit better and more accommodating stage to all involved.

I agree, Tech has a phenomenal facility. Not sure it is an option to Cathedral anymore.

Just thought it was ironic for a Roncalli fan of all people to chime in. Roncalli dropped Cathedral after a few drubbings awhile back and now wants to dictate where Cathedral hosts a game?

Just say that where this game is.  What a joke!!!  I'm so glad Roncalli doesn't have to play the irish there!!!  That game should be at U Indy or CG, or anywhere else that can actually host the event properly!  I heard the Chatard game last week was a awful there.  No parking. Just ridiculous!  They're probably looking for any advantage they can get.  Playing on a crowned crappy grass surface will be an obstacle for any team, but the irish get 4 or 5 practice games before the CG game.  They'll still lose, but it stinks that this game doesn't receive the proper environment it should. Maybe they'll make some $ on the webcast???  Is that technology even accessible there???

    Joke!

Just be glad Roncalli has ducked Cathedral for the last decade and get over it.

The playing surface at Arlington is fine. It is a smaller venue but what other choice does Cathedral have? It's where they play their home games.

I'd be interested to know why the Irish aren't playing St. X this season.  The Irish have played St. X almost every year since the late '90's.  I have attended every game of the series.  The results are lopsided, somewhat, but most of the games were very competitive.

I don't believe the Irish have played at LaSalle since 1999, when Otis Shannon rushed for 489 yards in a 34-24 Irish win.  Looking forward to seeing that one if we can make it past the road construction on I74.  We may have to hit the side roads.

It's been sometime since the Irish played at Columbus North also.

Played La Salle last year and in 07 at the Herbstreit Classic. Won both.

Edit: I see you said at LaSalle my apologies. 07 game was in Cincy but played at UC's Nipper Stadium.

Ya see, the difference in the analogy that you are attempting to make is that Toledo actually had something to do with Williams fumbling.

The read option play in which Toledo scored prior was defended SO poorly by ND that Toledo (only needing a first down) actually scored instead of just setting up for the game winning FG which would have been a chip shot.

Had Toledo just gotten the first down, they’d have been able to probably run the game clock down and kick from 30 yards down 2.

Not a guarantee but the dude was already 3/3 on the day.

No chance I’m letting my kicker attempt a game winning on the road in front of 100k fans at the expense of not scoring a TD to take the lead while trailing. Hindsight is 20/20 but you just don’t do that.

Still don't know what to make of this Cincinnati outfit either however.  I don't think they are a top 10 team but clearly a top 25 team.  Does the fact that they were tied at halftime with Murray State last weekend mean they too were holding back and keeping it vanilla?  Time will tell.

I think they're very well-coached and have some serious individual talent. IU is going to have to play extremely well to win this game.

For the record I think CN would handle Penn convincingly.

This time last year Cathedral was in the middle of their"Ohio" schedule. In fact, they had played 3 Ohio teams each year since 2017. Just one this year.... Did schools back out of a contract?

Now as a result the Irish have Hammond Morton on the schedule next week. If you look at Morton's results thus far, there is no way this game should take place. This may be the biggest mismatch in recent memory. Better have a number of EMT's standing by.

Cathedral “could” have beaten Penn by a lot more than 37-0 had they wanted too, however they chose not to. I think a similar outcome will be in the works Friday against CN.

Not sure why St. X isn’t on the schedule this year, they’ve been a mainstay on Cathedral’s schedule for the better part of the last 20 years but there have been a few instances where they haven’t met. I believe they are back on the schedule next year. Moeller, Elder, as well as Louisville Trinity and Lakewood St. Ed’s have shown up on the schedule a few different times over the years but not teams Cathedral traditionally plays every year.

It is unfortunate when a team like Morton shows up on the schedule but in almost every instance it is out of necessity not luxury. One of the downsides to not being in a conference I suppose.

I just posted at the same time in the college football season topic. Funny reading the comments. Urban Meyer’s name comes up a lot. Not that he would leave at this point, but bad timing on the part of USC. Had they made this move when they should have, they could have at least been able to talk to Urban. While it should attract some attention, not sure who would follow through.

I’ve heard Urban coveted that job on his most recent “retirement” but the school chancellor wanted nothing to do with Urban  so long as she was there given the issues he had at Florida and Ohio State.

Luke Fickell and Matt Campbell I would think are obvious choices. Both can flat out coach football. Feel like James Franklin’s name has been mentioned the last 2-3 years as well. Honestly wouldn’t be surprised to see them make a run at Kiffin again. I know it sounds crazy but Kiffin is a ton more mature now than he was in his mid-30’s when he took that job the first go around, not to mention in less than desirable circumstances given the fallout from Reggie Bush.

  15. Feels like this should have been done 2-3 years ago but here we are. Outside Bama, I think this is the best job in the country. Beautiful location, fertile recruiting grounds, storied history, etc…for the life of me I can’t understand why this is so hard for them to get right.

Job should attract plenty of suitors, interesting to see how committed the USC administration really is, I’ve heard they’ve been penny pinching for sometime.

If that is what Cathedrals wants the score to be, it will be.

It'll be similar to the Penn game. 35-0, 42-0 at half, running clock 2nd half with backups running the same two or three plays every series with the score being similar to what it was at half. Only way it gets significantly out of hand is if the Cathedral defense is scoring directly off turnovers.

  17. The only way I'll start worrying about preseason polls is if they College Football Playoff (the only poll that matters) is directly influenced by either the AP or Coaches poll. I haven't seen that to be the case yet. Preseason polls are fun and meant to hype up early season match ups, all while being meaningless at the same time.

Was not my intention, but your suggestion is a lot better! By the way, what about that? The hawks D has taken it up a notch or two this year. And with that in mind, the offense doesn't need to do  too much to win the game.

    Indiana should be taking notes.

That was IU's MO all of last year. Very stout and fortuitous defense that turned their opponents over at an extremely high rate that just simply isn't attainable over the long haul. IU's defense is good enough to keep them in most games this year, but they aren't going to win many if they turn the ball over and can't sustain drives.

Prepping for the “see what Iowa did yesterday” spin.

”We lost to a top 5 team.”

Saw what Iowa did, still not overly impressed with the Hawkeyes. If they are a top 5 team, college football is considerably down. Iowa has 476 yards of offense through 2 games and their QB is completing 50% of his passes. They are a well-disciplined and coached team and they have a very stout defense that will be good all year, but they've been just as fortuitous as they've been good. I have them with 3 INT's off tipped balls where defenders simply were in the right spot at the right time and 3 defensive TD's. That is simply an unattainable rate and will surely regress towards the mean as the season progresses. Iowa's offense at some point this year is going to have to win them a game, maybe a few, and their offense has been very average.
