  1. I've sung West Washington's praises all season and see no reason to change now. I picked them early in the season as the team to come out of the south in 1A .The Senators by 3 scores.
  2. It was a great rivalry until 2011. After that the Miners won 6 in a row. And most of the games weren't even close that was what was so crazy. Sooner or later the Miners are going to win another game like that 1997 game and the program will be changed again (in a bigger class).
  3. Sooner or later the Miners are going to win a game they aren't supposed to and it will change the program once again. I look at the 1997 season and see that the Miners finished at 6 - 3. Just like this year. They were the underdogs in the sectional championship game just like this year. I remember it was a clear night but VERY cold. In that title game Linton traveled to Perry Central. The final score was 35 - 12, a Miners win. The Miners went on to semi-state and lost to Knightstown 14 - 7 in a constant drizzle that year. That one game at Perry Central they weren't supposed to win, propelled the program and started their many years of being a factor in the South. They made the semi-state many times before getting over the hump in back to back years (2015 and 2016) I truly believe that sectional game they weren't supposed to win started it all. Sooner or later, history will repeat itself. History tends to do that.
  4. I just meant recently since Southridge has been in 3A, MD has been the favorite. From 1999 to 2016, Linton or Perry Central won sectional 48 every year except 2003 when Tecumseh won it. Linton won it in 2004, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2011 - 2016. Perry Central won it 1999 - 2002, 2005. 2006, and 2010. So those 2 were dominate in 48 like Southridge and MD have been dominate in 40. Linton was totally dominate before they moved up to 2A (2017) winning it 6 straight years. You see a team win their sectional 3 years in a row and think "great class" during that time frame. However when you see a team win it 6 years in a row you think, "great program", or at least I would think most people would feel that way. It's always a given when teams win multiple state titles they are considered great programs. However, I have considered some programs great with lesser titles because multiple state titles are fewer and far between for most schools even the great programs.
  5. I was only posting those numbers for the season as information. Not really comparing the two or using it as a metric. In their last 4 games the Miners have averaged 41 and given up 6.5. In their last 6 they have averaged 38 and given up 10.8 and that includes a 27 - 14 loss to North Knox. People have mentioned that both MD and Linton have been playing some good ball the past several weeks. You look at how they are scoring and defending and it is telling. The Miners do not have 1 or 2 superstars either. They have several backs that can go for 100 in any given game including the QB who is only a sophomore this year. You don't have to convince me how sound MD is. They have been a solid program for years. Now that the Miners are in 2A, that is where they are trying to get to. They will get there eventually. Not to sound like a homer but. the Miners have a pretty decent program themselves.
  6. I have been feeling the same way Miner Pride. When they were in 1A it took the Miners a while to get past Perry Central. Then it got to the point of the Miners controlling sectional 48 for several years. They became the favorites just about every year as is Mater Dei now in sectional 40. Linton is still a young program in 2A. They have only been in 2A just a few years. They figured out how to win sectional 48 in 1A and they will get it figured out how to win sectional 40 also. The Miner coaching staff is too good not to make it happen. As you said and many of us have said this year, the Miners are a young team this season. I think about the season they have had this year and then think about next year and all of those sophomores and juniors will be another year experienced and another year older and stronger. No matter what happens this year, I'm looking forward to next year as the season the Miners rise up and start making some noise in 40. It will be a more veteran team and I expect them to do well. I hate to say, "wait until next year", but I think in this case it fits. I'm not counting them out his year because they haven't played the game yet, but I believe next year they will have the best team they have had since moving up to 2A.
  7. Mater Dei scores 25.9 points per game and gives up 13.5 Linton scores 35.1 points per game and gives up 17.8 One interesting thing about Linton's offense this year is their red zone scoring. I am not sure what it is exactly now, but a couple of weeks ago it was something like 23 out of 28 times in the red zone they scored TD's. I'm sure Miner Pride will be on later and give us all of the stats for the 2 teams.
  8. These teams have played each other the past 2 years in the tournament. 2 years ago at Linton Mater Dei won, 40-21. Last year at the Reitz Bowl Mater Dei won 44-20. So for the third year in a row they will face each other only this time it's for the sectional championship. Here's hoping there's no 40 points laid down this year. The Miners are a very young team but have played the past several weeks like a veteran team. They need to continue that type of play to be in this game. This is for the sectional title. There should be no need for motivation. These are the kind of games you remember for your lifetime. This is going to be a l-o-n-g week!
  9. No way Meyer OR Fickell would take the Michigan job. Being from Ohio State and going to Michigan would be like becoming the Benedict Arnold of college football. Not happening. But I do agree that Harbaugh is finished especially if he loses to IU.
  10. So far it is looking like people are taking MD by 3 - 12 points. Harrell picks them by 4. As I said earlier, the Miners will need to play mistake free. Nothing like last year when the very first play of the game was a pick 6 TD for MD and the game just went downhill from there for the Miners The Miners need to make MD earn it and not give up any gifts. That should make the game a bit more interesting and more than likely keep things closer. We all know MD is the better team, but in a close game you just sometimes never know. A bounce here, a bounce there and the team that was supposed to win, doesn't.
  11. Loved how Urban Meyer said IU is the second best team in the Big Ten East, especially after the Buckeyes took down Penn State. I really like IU's chances against Michigan this year. The IU defense dominated yesterday in the 2nd and 3rd quarters. Rutgers had only 60 yards of total offense at halftime. In the second quarter IU only gave up minus 6 yards. That's quite impressive. IU still has a tough schedule but they are playing well enough to be in every game. Allen had to be proud of his team yesterday. It seems like he is the coach that IU has needed for years.
  12. I wouldn't exactly count Rutgers and Maryland as automatic wins. Rutgers beat up on Michigan State and last night Maryland beat Minnesota in OT. Maryland was down at halftime and came back to tie the game. and won in overtime IU has a tough task to get 4 or possibly 5 wins. But I l believe this year's team can do it. They showed a lot of guts in that Penn State game. This year's team of Hoosiers is tough! Maybe it is just one game but I like what I saw. They should be overflowing with confidence after beating PS. It was a REALLY good win for the program. I felt really good for Allen and the team. Hopefully that Covid crap stays away and doesn't mess with their season.
  13. Sorry for the typo. That should have said Linton played 4 home games NOT 3. My bad. But the weather was dry all 4 games. Didn't get much rain this year.
  14. I have heard the fans "decision" will be made by Wednesday. The field was a bit on the wet side last night from Thursday's rain, but from what I could see it didn't get too torn up. This is the year that Linton only played 3 home games on their schedule and every week the weather was dry. So I am guessing the field won't be all that bad for this game.
  15. I haven't heard anything MDAlum, but this is just a guess. Maybe it will be on IHSAA for the live stream? I know it will be on WQTY (93.3) radio. Darren Clayton and Miner Pride do the broadcasts and are very good. They keep the listeners informed of what is going on with each play (down and distance, how much a play gained, who carried or caught the ball, and who made the tackle or got the turnover). They also provide in game stats. They provide a lot of detailed information. More than most broadcast teams do.
  16. Even before the tournament draw a lot of people felt this was Mater Dei's sectional to lose, and the big dog is still standing at the top of the heap. Basically the only question was who would be their opponent in the final. A good majority of fans felt it would be Tell City, but the virus reared its ugly head and changed those plans. Others felt it would be Linton and here they are hosting MD this Friday night for the hardware. Since moving up to 2A this will be Linton's first opportunity to play for the sectional championship. They have lost in the first or second rounds in previous years. Harrell is predicting a 28 - 24 Mater Dei win. With their SOS and their record against that SOS, who could argue with that prediction? Since losing to North Knox, the Miners have played some really good ball the past few weeks. However, they will need to protect the ball and keep the penalties low. The offense, defense, AND special teams will all have to contribute if they are to stay in the game and even have a chance to win it. Playing for (and winning) sectional 40 is nothing new to MD. For them this is, "been there, done that". I am looking forward to a good game. Good health to all players, coaches, and fans.
  17. MD 30 North Knox 19. Linton 47 North Posey 17. So the final is set. I wonder if they will allow fans at the game next week? If not, the atmosphere will be nothing like it normally is for a sectional final at Linton.
  18. Well I hear there are no fans allowed at tonight's game. They are only letting family members in. That will probably be an all time smallest crowd ever for a Miner playoff game. They tell people to wear masks for a reason. Are they a pain in the butt? Sure, but if they stop the spread I'm down with that.
  19. Maybe I am too much of a worrier, but after last week's game at Tell City I was worried that some of the Linton players might test positive this week. I know that the Marksmen had about half of their team out, but you just never know with this crap. I hope all of the players at TC are healthy again!
  20. Same here Miner Pride. I've always liked the Southridge program and their fans. Good group of peeps! The team always plays a top notch game and always plays hard during their games. At least the ones I've seen. Mucho respect for Southridge. Linton hasn't won yet against Southridge, but it gets them better prepared for the season and later in the tournament. You can't coach and you can't teach competition. That is experienced week after week during the season.
