I don't think Coach May will mind...

Brownstown will bring back 7 starters on offense and 8 on offense, but basically all of our "rotators" return, as well. We bring back 75-80% of the guys we played last year, essentially.

Offensively we lose Carson Darlage (6'5 215lbs QB), who the last two seasons combined--340 carries 2200 yards 34 TDs on the ground. The plan is for him to be replaced by Micah Sheffer, who will be a SO.

OL-- there will be some reshuffling in spots with the added depth from the JV guys moving up. Last season we replace 10 starters offensively, so there was a lot of newness with this group up front last year. We hope the experience and year in the weight room pay dividends. We expect to be better here and have more depth.

Off-skill-- everyone is back. Engle, Hutcheson, Zike, Tiemeyer, Garrison, Killey, and Fritz will all share the rock. Another group that was new last year and took some lumps, and we hope to see some strides because of it this season.

DL--- should be the strength of our team. Burcham-Jones+Branaman will be 3yr starters who have been excellent so far in their careers. Hutchinson started every game as a FR last season (6'5 280) and played well. We will add a player or two to these already-established 3 and I think we have a very solid top 7-8 guys here.

LBers--- we replace MLB with Owen Wischmeier, whose brother Eli, was a North/South All Star. Both OLBers are back--- Hutcheson+Killey who both had big games against Triton Central in the sectional.

DBs-- everyone is back and another position group we hope to have more depth at this season with some JV guys moving up/getting some guys back healthy.

Our kicker, Bryce Peak is back and will be a SR.

Last season is the youngest team I have coached while an asst at Brownstown. (2013) and I'm pretty sure it's the youngest team Coach May has had here. Last season we played 5 different FR on one side of the ball (at times), along with playing 5 SOs, regularly.... couple that with a whole JR class (besides 2) that did not see the varsity field as SOs 2 years ago... it was interesting at times lol

I would say this group has the potential to be good, but doing it and saying it are two different things. As always, super excited to get to work with the dudes later this month and we hope to hit the ground running with the experience we bring back.

I love these posts. It's nice to get to see names and expectations from a coaches point of view. Even during coach speak I enjoy seeing their POV and how they see kids shaping up. Makes me wish some of the WW coaches were back. Always want that insider info. Haha. But yes Salem 2 non conference are Valley and WW. Maybe they preparing to Juno for plac...🤣🤣🤣. J/K. Thanks again coach!

This whole time i have seen Lutheran needing a team for week 9, and was hoping. Then I see this and its like what the .....

Yea. Poorly missed opportunity. Not only could Linton and Lutheran have played but Phalan could've scheduled South Decatur which is more in line for them

  3. 4 more months. Hope everyone provides some summer info to help burn the time. Wondering if WW will try to add North Daviees. Both now have week 6 open with Linton adding someone else. Makes too much sense to me. Same sectional. Played in the past regularly. ND was scheduled to be on road that week and we desperately need a home game.

I find it interesting that folks are highlighting p/p schools as something that this would impact most.  Realize that WeBo won three consecutive 2A titles in 2018-2020.  Of interest is that Luers, who WeBo beat in their third-straight appearance, said nary a word about the supposed "injustice," but I do recall a few public school posters giving WeBo a hard time about that.

Also, Pioneer had three visits in a row to LOS in 2016-2018 in 1A and actually had four visits in five years 2014-2018.  In contrast, Scecina had only two visits in 2011-2012, lost both, and got bumped to 2A ... the only team, in the history of SF, to get bumped without getting a blue ring in the process.

While Lutheran and Mater Dei COULD indeed join the club, the programs that have ACTUALLY benefited from the set periods re-evals are public programs.

Think it's more of a highlighting teams from last year. I'm not highlighting Lutheran because they are private....I'd highlight Linton I'm sure over last few years if they were in 1A. I think it's also highlighting teams that haven't moved up. Scenia webo and pioneer just like LCC have moved up. I'd be just fine if WW moved up due to success factor. I do however 100% think you should have to win at least 1 title in order to move up. 2 runner ups shouldn't matter. Just my opinion

I will give you coach speak here.  We will be running the systems which fit our players.  I have a system I want to run, but if the players do not fit that system, then I will have to change.  The only aspect I can tell you for sure is we will be attacking where we have the advantages.

14 years Varsity Football coaching experience- Jasper, Forest Park, Springs Valley

    3 years AD- Vincennes Rivet

6 years Varsity Track and Field Coach- Jasper, Vincennes Rivet

5 years Middle School Basketball Coach- Holy Family (Jasper feeder)

Hope that answers all your questions!

Appreciate you. I knew of the Valley back ground (I work at the casino...kids go to Valley...wife a Valley grad). I know of Corydons offense last year as similar to WW offense under bowsman but jasper and Valley didn't run that so didn't see that continuing. Good luck coach and always enjoy a coaches perspective on the board. Thanks!!

  6. According to Harrells looks like Salem/Springs Valley is gonna be a series. Added to week 5.

Also so far only week 6 opening I can see happening for WW is Washington. We played there couple years ago then they cancelled. Maybe they can return the trip. We need the home game that's for sure.

What does Clarksville have coming back? Their schedule does look more program friendly without that conference full slated on there. Does Clarksville have enough there to attract a younger up and coming coach looking for an opportunity?

They lose all their skill players including QB and do it all RB Robert Lamar but return every lineman it appears. Our JR high beat em 48-0. They did beat our JV but we only played like 3 or 4 JV games I think finishing winless. That about all the info I could find.

So does Clarksville slide back into the abyss?

I dunno. Going independent has allowed them to schedule easier/closer to their size instead of the MSC meat grinder. That seems to be their biggest help last few years. 6-9 last 2 years against non MSC schools 2-5 vs current. Still play Charlestown, Scottsburg, North Harrison. They did have 39 listed on last year's roster (11 seniors I believe). So they seem to be in better shape then alot of struggling schools. Hopefully the next coach can continue to build.

I didn’t realize RJ was there that long.

Coaching out in Texas now. I'm more surprised Thompson stepped down so quickly. Now we wait for Corydon to announce. Their HC stepped down pretty quick I assumed he had a job lined up somewhere. Wonder if he will be an assistant somewhere

Biggest question for the Jackets is the line on both sides of the ball. Return almost everything in the skill positions. Ethan Turner is the guy for the full offseason, excited to see him throw it around in the fall.

Kids continued to fight and get better throughout the year. Give Kling credit, plus he is also doing a great job with working with the JH kids. I think you'll see a slight increase in the win total each year, and the incoming freshmen class group will be "the year" for us when they are seniors.  This season's W total just hinges on a lot of questions on the Line.

That's good for Mitchell. I know our JH was decent and mix well with the soon to be sophomore class as they have alot more size. Looks like we may have quite a few years of dog fights coming up. Most conference seems to have some bright spots coming if the kids stick with it.

Congrats to Coach Glesing and Salem. Coach Glesing is an outstanding coach and program builder. His early roots offensively were in power run/power toss out of various pro formations. He incorporated a little more spread/wing-t kind of concepts later in his tenure at Floyd, but still had the basics of power toss as the root, though he was dressing it up with more formations. Defensively he was always a 4-3/cover 2 base with adjustments. I think Salem has always been a hard nosed, physical team and I would fully expect that to continue.

Thanks!! Salem is always hard for WW to beat. Even when we are really good Salem just generally has our number. Odd they seem to never have a coach stick around long. Good luck to him! Hope it works out.

Looking at last year's roster Crawford County has 15 freshmen on last year's team, including QB Quentin Bell, LB Isaac Adams, OL/DL Russ Payne, and OL/LB Conner Morgan, who at least started against us so I assume they got quite a big of experience. This group has some size physically and Bell threw the ball well when he has time. Crawford County only had 3 sophomores and 3 juniors so that group will have to keep playing a lot. Sophomore Aidan Bell was a solid receiver for them last year and they also return their best player in Nash Stroud who played OL/TE/WR/RB/DL/LB for them. Stroud was all-conference and is a real nice player wherever they end up using him. Hopefully they can hang on to some of their young kids and get going in the right direction.

How did their JR high do? Any numbers?

  13. My current PLAC projections

    1. Perry Central- PC lost 12 seniors including 3 OL and the QB. They still return stud RB Sawyer Guillaume. I never assume PC can't replace lineman so if the new QB can keep a defense honest by week 4 I expect them and Paoli to have a dog fight. Both the Paoli and WW game are at home which helps out tremendously.

    2. Paoli- 11 seniors gone from last years team they appear to be almost a mirror image of PC. Returning 2 OL and a stud RB in Trey Rominger. Like PC I also assume Paoli, who generally rotate alot of lineman throughout, will be able to replace their OL. @PC will be their toughest test for the conference crown

    3. Springs Valley- The Blackhawks lost the fewest seniors with 6. They lose 2 OL and 1000 yd RB in Ezra Mills. Replacing Mills will be interesting. I'd assume Konner Chase and Larron Childers split to start. They return 3 OL and have quite a bit of good young kids on the line. They could compete with top 2 if they get good play from their DTs. Great Edge guys here but too many teams beat them by simply running down their throat.

    4. West Washington- Losing 7 seniors including 2 OL and 2 of top 3 rushers. Bad schedule has us looking at possibly only 2 home games if we don't find a week 6 opp to come to Art Sanders. I have my doubts about us but more on WW when I do my full breakdown later in summer

5 Mitchell- The most seniors lost in 13. They lose 4 OL and return couple skill guys. The strength will be in the freshman class as they ran through PLAC last year. I'm sure some will get some early introduction to Friday nights as Mitchell looks to build something over the next few years.

    6. Crawford- Not much to say. 8 seniors gone. Only team I couldn't find a game for to watch. I do believe against WW they started a freshman at QB. We all hope Crawford can get something going. Roster had around 21 kids which is improvement.

That's where I'm at currently. Obviously this won't account for transfers/quitters/movers. I didn't touch on D since most are 2 way guys. It should be a fun season hopefully. Looking forward to more input and insider info from everyone.

I like that alot. I think a couple years ago I had combined the conferences and made two divisions and the #1's played each other week 9, and #2's did and so on.

Or you could do what PAC did and make a small/big school division. That would be fine too.

I just think the schools in Orange, Washington, Crawford fit well geographically than Perry Central who has a different time zone. If they're moved to the small PAC, almost all their opponents are right along the interstate and same time zone. I just get bored. None of it will actually happen. I've always hard WW doesn't want Pekin in the PLAC. I'm sure they wouldn't approve Salem if it were proposed.

I'm really hoping someone wants to do a MinerPride style write up on each team to preview the season. Maybe 1 a week. WWFan would be good at this.

I'll do PLAC on my days off to best I can.  Haha. I do wonder if Clarksville would be decent in PLAC....let Crawford go independent (even tho they said no couple years ago) or maybe add Eastern Greene/NCF
