Then I don't understand why Knox is not 2a. From what I can find it says 3a is 600 plus kids. Knox has been below that for years now. I guess I'm looking in the wrong places. Thanks for the reply.

3a is currently ranging from 790 on the high end to 511 on the low end. Knox is currently at 553 at the last count with 14 schools lower in the class than them in enrollment.

What is weak about Knox schedule? Besides the conferences teams, they play John Glenn and Maconaquah. Both with winning records. 6 out of the nine teams they played had winning records. They say Knox is 3a. Yet there's only 38 kids on the team. So what makes there schedule stronger?

Knox’s schedule is weak for a 3A team. It is a fact. They are currently in a conference comprised of only 1A and 2A opponents. According to Sagarin, they have the 182nd toughest schedule in the state. There is only one other team in the top 20 of 3A with a weaker schedule. Knox is a good football team. They are well coached and disciplined. However, the fact remains that their schedule does not prepare them for the 3A tournament. I think it is great move for them to make a move to the new conference.

  3. Knox @ Lakeland- I think its a matter of when not if, the Knox Football team's weak schedule catches up to them... but its not this week.

Andrean @ LaVille- Andrean is not the same Andrean of the last few years, but their schedule has prepped them for the 2A postseason.

Winamac @ Central Catholic- Knights win big over the Warriors. Has Winamac gotten better or have they just hit the soft spot of their schedule?

Triton @ North Newton- Trojans get healthy for a couple weeks while they start prepping for Judson or Pioneer in the sectional championship.

Culver @ SCUM- Satellites win the rematch from earlier in the season over the lowly Cavaliers.

Caston @ North White- Taking the Comets here as they look for their first sectional win since 2020.

Pioneer @ Judson- The difference in this game to me is which Pioneer team shows up? Will it be the turnover prone, mental mistake team we saw last week, or the Panthers that were aggressive and confident the other half of the year? Judson is a well coached and quality team that will make few mental mistakes and take care of the ball. If the Panthers have 3-4 turnovers like they did last Friday they will be dribbling basketballs next week. As another poster mentioned, both teams were more vanilla than usual last week with the weather conditions, which suited Judson. I expect the young Panthers to come out swinging this Friday and win in a tight one.

Hard to tell how good Carroll is based on their strength of schedule, but it looks like they're at least as good as last year based on scores. Sagarin ratings of the teams with solid records in their sectional are pretty low, so we probably won't know how good Carroll is until regional.

Any predictions for sectional 41? Is Triton the clear front runner? It looks like Pioneer gave them a decent game a few weeks ago.

I think Triton is the front runner until proven otherwise. If wet weather is a factor, Judson might have an edge. Panthers probably too young to make a run, but getting their fullback back to full speed will definitely help.

If I were Pioneer or Judson I would be very careful to make sure your team is healthy for the sectional game next Friday.  It’s VERY hard to beat a similar quality team twice in a year let alone back to back weeks!  I would say whoever wins this Friday is now the underdog for next Friday!

Hard to be get healthy/save kids when you're already thin to start...

I'd like to see AC challenged before LOS, but I just don't think there's anyone among the likely north sectional winners to do it.  It's hard to tell whether Carroll can be that team from their atrocious regular season schedule.  The most competitive game they'll play before the tourney is tomorrow against Sheridan, and the Blackhawks are in no way comparable to the Jets.

Carroll's schedule does nothing for them from a post season prep standpoint. Sagarin has their strength of schedule at 303/314. Opponent's records are at 21 and 42 for the season with most of the opponent's wins coming from their conference's cellar dwellers. Don't get me wrong, they are doing what they should be doing to these inferior opponents, but I think they are in for some shock when they play a team with a pulse.

What will hurt Winamac will be losing Jadon Jones to a season ending injury.

I also think the last two weeks Winamac has been very turnover prone and no offense to West Central or Caston but Winamac has that many they'd lose by 5 or 6 tds to Triton. They'll have to really clean it up and someone besides Bucinski will have to carry the ball now with Jones out.

    What happened to Jones?

Anyone know how the process works from All Conference to All State? I get the HNAC coaches know the conference players, but how is All State chosen?  Is it a statewide 2A coaches vote? You can’t tell me coaches know the other side of the states player’s performance!?Review film? Just curious.

IFCA All State players are selected by region regardless of class size. The coaches in a specific region get together and nominate their players and give a spiel on why the player is deserving and then all of the coaches vote. When fans wonder why player xyz did not make the team, sometimes it is as simple as the coach didn't show up to represent. Other times it is due to better players at the specific position.

Can't speak on the AP process.

  9. Culver at LaVille- LaVille will have 2 weeks of Andrean prep.

Knox at Caston- Knox Football team preps for sectionals and gets guys some rest this week

Triton at Winamac- Trojans pummel Winamac from start to finish.

North Judson at Pioneer-  I think that both teams will head into this one with the mindset to win this week and next. What is there to hold back for either team? Both teams want to control the ball and play great defense. One with a wing-t and one with a power/option scheme.

Neither team is going to come out and magically do something on offense that they haven't done all season. The real question this week will be to see how Freshman QB Shiloh Rine develops with a week of confidence under his belt for Pioneer. He played well last week against Culver and his comfort may end up being the difference maker for Pioneer.

Defensively, Judson will be in their 4-4/4-3 looks and will be very sound versus the Panther offense. I'm curious to see which defense the Panthers settle on this week as they have been in about 6 different looks since week one, while trying to find what fits their young core best.

  10. 2 POINT GAMES

    Benton Central @ Central Catholic

    Rensselaer @ Northwestern

    Washington @ Hamilton Heights

    Tipton @ Western

    Twin Lakes @ West Lafayette

    Sheridan @ Eastern

    Taylor @ Tri-Central

    North Vermillion @ Fountain Central

    South Vermillion @ Seeger

    Triton @ Knox

  11. Culver at Caston- Comets secure their first win of the season.

LaVille @ Glenn- Lancers bounce back after last week's lost

Judson @ Triton- Jays pull out the win in a close one

Winamac @ West Central- Trojans beat the warriors by 2-3 scores

Knox @ Pioneer- I think Knox gets caught up after last week's big win over LaVille and the Panthers hang with them and eek out the win. Don't be surprised if the Panthers end up resting the FB and QB again to prepare for a late season tournament run.

Hey Farmer Fran!  I would love to get your opinions on the Pioneer/Triton game!  I think Triton will have a difficult time beating Pioneer again if they were to meet up in sectional.  Pioneer had some major players out for this game as did Triton but it’s always tough to beat a team twice in one season!

My prediction held true, that if Pioneer could contain Shively they would win, and they didn't. Shively was the difference in this game. Being down both primary ball carriers did not help Pioneer, but the offense was still fairly successful even with backups in 3 of the 4 positions backfield positions and being out our starting center. Pioneer was inside of the red zone 3 times and didn't put up points, which was a killer. At full health, I think Pioneer wins this past week by 1 or 2 scores, but being a 30 man team at the 1a level we probably will never be at full health.

I think what was more motivating for the Pioneer players was the last minute of the game where Pioneer stopped calling timeouts so that Triton could kneel out the clock. Instead of kneeling it out, Triton went for not one but two qb sneaks to score. In my opinion, if you don't like it then stop it, but at the same time, the players took that pretty personally and are already hoping for a sectional rematch.

There are no restrictions on which player can throw a legal forward pass. Any player on offense can do so on any play.

The fact that you asked 2 different crews and neither was sure is disappointing. This is pretty fundamental stuff.

They told us that any linemen cannot catch a pass if said linemen are in the backfield. Can run though.
