The injury situation doesn’t sound good for Jennings County on Friday based on what I’m hearing. I felt like this team had a chance to finally give East a run for their money. May not be the case now.

This week’s games (week 4): Columbus East (0-3, 0-1 HHC) at Jennings County (2-1, 0-1 HHC) New Albany (1-2, 1-0 HHC) at BNL (1-2, 1-0 HHC) Seymour (2-1, 2-0 HHC) at Floyd Central (2-1) Jeffersonville (0-3) at Louisville Fern Creek (2-1)

I think there’s a clear division in the conference. Seymour, Floyd Central, and BNL are in one group. Columbus East, Jennings County, New Albany, and Jeffersonville are in the other group. I’m very interested to see how those two groups play out in the standings.

Don’t count BNL out. They were very close to being 3-0.

Sounds like it from the updates I was seeing on Twitter.

Jennings County lost their QB in the second quarter with a knee injury. He was 6 of 7 for 110 yards at that point. Also had several tackles as he also plays defense. Sounds like Jennings County got pretty banged up tonight according to their radio broadcast.

Columbus East and Seymour tied at 13 after the first quarter. Other than Seymour getting an INT, not much defense so far.

I was able to confirm one kid is out who happens to play both offense and defense. Can’t confirm any others but that doesn’t mean they’re not out as well.

I know one defensive player went out in the second quarter last week with a twisted ankle but I was under the assumption it wasn’t serious. Not sure if he’s one of the kids you’re referring to but I’m hoping to get that clarified.

Let me see if I can verify that info. If so, I’ll have to withhold the names of the kids unless it’s public info.

So the starting QB is practicing and the starting RB is questionable. Are there any other key injuries? I want to pick BNL over Jeff but I want to make sure they’re not too banged up.

I think it’s a combination of things. I love Coach Vogel but he’s no Coach Gaddis and that was to be expected. I guess the hardest part for me is that I anticipated the fall-off to be gradual. I expected a 6-4 season at some point after Gaddis left. Instead, we went from 8-3 in Gaddis’ last year to 4-6 to another 4-6. And with the way things are looking thus far, we may be lucky to get to 4-6 again. I think not having Gaddis has something to do with it. I think the coaching staff turnover as a whole has something to do with it. And I also think talent level has something to do with it. Stevie Brown, the Kiel boys, Markell Jones, etc. all had hype surrounding them from the time they were in middle school. When’s the last time East has had kids like that on the team? Granted, coaching should develop players and it has in the past. Therefore, I think all three factors are at play here. There may even be more that I’m not mentioning. I’d heard numbers had dropped off at the youth levels and East definitely isn’t near its peak numbers either. So that could be a fourth factor. And now that I think about it, size is another factor. The kids lately don’t have the size, strength, and musculature that the elite East teams had.
