Little rainy at practice this morning at U Indy but the players from both the North Squad and the South Squad were enjoying the environment.  Always a great experience for these young men and selected coaching staffs.  Great presentation by the Indiana Shriners today at lunch and all the players were tuned into the message and what it means to be an IFCA Indiana All Star.  Now let's do our part by supporting this cause by attending!

IFCA North/South All Star Game:  Friday July 11 7pm (Decatur Central HS Southwest Indy SR 67 just south of 465)

Is it time to talk East-West split or is North/ South still the best dividing line for the state?

If I saw the score correctly, it might be time to go ENTIRE state vs Indy/Donut.

Personally, I have mixed feelings about this game in general.
1. The top talent does not play in this game. It’s really a D3 All Star game with some FCS and D2 smattering.

2. Tough on coaching staffs both personally and professionally. A week away from family and team. Coaches and families already have limited time with both their family and teams.

3. Injury risk too high. I don’t think the players are in their prime playing shape when game is played. There was a knee injury to an OL last night. He is/ was going to Southern Illinois to play this fall. Likely out for season. For what?

4. Quality of football is poor. Really not very fun to watch.

On the flip side, it is an honor to those chosen to play in it. I get it but I think just being named as an All Star is an honor though without playing game.

I’m assuming the financial proceeds are going somewhere. IFCA? Charity?

interested in others thoughts??

Have you ever coached or played HS FB?

In my opinion, the honor is in making the All Star team and having your jersey framed in your high school forever not necessarily playing in that game.
By July, I was getting ready for the competition and physical demands coming at my first college summer/fall camp.

I have seen highly recruited DII athletes not make the team. It seems to be heavily influenced by the region, with teams often favoring players from the same area as the head coach and assistant coaches.

North vs South is just fine, this game has very little meaning.

I like you Sparty, but that's just dumb. Unless you're thinking is about making sure each half has the same number of kids coming out of a metro area (areas that offer the best training). If you add Fort Wayne, South Bend/Mishawaka/Elkhart, and The Region, you pretty much have a level playing field for an All Star team going up against Indianapolis.  Fans have a skewed mentality that Indy breeds better athletes than the rest of the state as a result of their dominance of 6A. That dominance is, by and large, a result of having the largest schools in the state. Talent for talent Fort Wayne could put together an ALL TIME team would, at the minimum, take Indianapolis Metro into overtime. In short, the South beating the North 37-0 means absolutely nothing to me. It just means that the best players from the North didn't play. East vs West, Indy vs everyone else, bla bla bla. Good grief.
