North Shore and Duncanville will be squaring off again in 6A in a repeat of last year's title game and is the fourth time in the last five years that these two will meet in the championship game. In 5A, Aledo, which will make its eighth appearance in eleven seasons in 5A will square off against College Station which is making its third appearance in six years. Aledo also had a run in 4A as well showing up four championship games in its last five seasons of 4A and taking those four championships before heading to 5A. My daughter was asking me about college bowl game season and when it starts. For all intents and purposes, these games tend to be better games, and better attended, than some of the college bowl games ... especially the Texas 6A contests. Last year's Texas Class 6A- Division I title game had almost 60,000 in attendance which was greater than all but seven major college bowl games.

North Shore broke the massive Westlake winning streak in semi. Anyone else remember Westlake Coach Todd Dodge when he was a highly touted qb coming out of hs and later played at Texas? He was at Texas when I was an undergrad at A&M, when Kubiak and Murray, Kyler Murray's dad, were QBs back in the early-/mid-80s. He's had pretty good success in Texas as a coach ... at least at the high school level ... as he also coached at Southlake Carroll too and has rings from there as well. Bonecrusher
Rep'ing the smaller schools here... Class 2A, Div. 2 (smallest class/div in 11-man) Mart (15-0) vs. Albany (13-2) tonight. This will be Mart's 13th time playing for a championship with 8 wins. Three-peated in 2017, 18,19; runner up in 2020; knocked out in the semi's in 2021 by 4 pts. Class 2A, Div. 1 Refugio (14-1) vs. Hawley (15-0) Thursday. This will be Refugio's 10th time playing for a championship with 5 wins. 2019 was both the last appearance at the ship and the last title. Their coach has been jokingly referred to as one of the most hated high school football coach in Texas. Class 4A, Div. 1 China Spring (14-1) vs. Boerne (15-0) Friday. China been to 4 championships, with 2 titles. One of those wins was last year, so looking to repeat. When my kids played (youngest graduated in 2018) we played Mart, they were a bigger school then and in our district, that was 100% a guaranteed "L" for us. There's something in the water in that community, and also Refugio. I'll bet @foxbat knows about Mart, maybe Refugio. Somewhat familiar with Aledo's program, from reading about them in news and on football forums. I think their coach wasn't real well liked either, for the same reason as Refugio's.

Oddly enough, it wasn't until I moved up here over a couple of decades ago that I learned about Mart's dominance ... and Aledo's. Prior to moving up to Indiana, and coming out of a big 6A Texas school which currently boats over 3,200 students, I must confess that I was a "big school bigot." I've since come to love small school ball. I'm more familiar with Refugio via their FFA program and the fact that my old high school is more populated than the city. 🙂

Been a good week for west Texas teams so far. Both 6-man (1A) classes won by west Texas teams. The Mart vs. Albany game won by west Texas team (Albany). The current game Refugio vs. Hawley, Hawley another west Tx team leads 34-13 at HT. In one of the 6-man games and both 2A games, the central or south Texas teams were heavily favored over west Texas. 3A and larger are all central/south/east TX teams. A few of these are from the DFW/Houston/San Antonio areas. Impressive run for the big country teams, though.
