  1. 4A looks like its going to be fun to watch shake out. New Pal is definitely the favorite but their path to get to Indy will be tough with Roncalli, EC, and Reitz all trying to up end them. 4A south is TOUGH. The north has Northwood as the favorite to get to indy but with New Prairie, Columbia City, and Kokomo all spaced out in different sectionals that could lead to some great regional/semi-state round matchups. The knock on Northwood is they rely heavily on the pass and all it takes is one bad weather night to throw a wrench in their plans. As for my cougars. If they are playing their best football I like their chances to make another run. Getting through Lowell and Hobart in November is always tough. Should be a fun 6 weeks!
  2. yup final NP 35 Elkhart 7 Game wasn't even as close as the score indicated. NP with 2 TD's called back and a missed field goal. If NP plays like that throughout the post season they are going to be a tough out.
  3. New Prairie looking like a team trying to get to thanksgiving weekend. games is at halftime 4A #5/8 NP: 21 6A #10/12 Elkhart: 7 NP dominates the half (they even had a TD called back on kick return). Offense is finally mixing it up and the defense is flying to the ball. NP to get the ball in the 2nd half. Let's see if they can keep it going.
  4. Ho hum ending to a ho hum season. A lot of teams looking forward to a post season run. Bremen at Clay - Bremen - nothing to say. Elkhart at New Prairie - Elkhart - I somehow feel better about this one than if NP would of won last week. Still think Elkhart will win. Penn at Adams - Penn - Penn trying to make a run in the post season to change the trajectory of the program. Riley at Jimtown - Jimtown - Probably the most intriguing game of the week. I think the teams are pretty evenly match but jimtown pulls out the win because that is what that program does. St. Joseph at Marian - Marian - the holy war feels more like a black plaque this year. Both teams struggled mightily this season but I think Marian is slightly better in 2022 Washington at Glenn - Glenn - After some early season momentum Glenn has sputtered the back half. They look to get another "W" in the column this Friday.
  5. St Joe vs. Adams: 21-14 (Adams runs out of time on the 1 yard line to end the game) Adams vs. Riley: 6-14 (2 OT) Marian vs. Adams: 7-6 That's some crazy parity right there.
  6. Yup, kinda what I was thinking going into it too. Penn wins 9 out of 10 times this year against the cougars. Frustrating game to watch on the NP side. granted some NP receivers dropped a few balls that would of been big gains. NP still refuses to do anything out of the box to try to trick, slowdown, or just get the defense guessing what's coming. it's been 3 years since we've seen a counter, screen, hard snap to get the defense to jump, or anything. Just follow the pulling tackle and you'll find the ball (which penns back side D end made about 5 plays from behind because the play is too slow to develop). I knew we weren't winning that game when NP got the ball down 14-0 with 4 minutes to go till the half and was completely content just running out the clock instead of trying to score. Congrats to Penn for the NIC crown.
  7. As Rocket said NP has a lot of weapons that could score a TD in many ways. Unfortunately NP either only utilizes a few of them, doesn't play them all together, or not creative enough to get it to their playmakers multiple ways. If Penn has a front 7 that is tough that could spell doom for the cougars; not because NP doesn't have the athletes to adjust but they just simply won't adjust to keep the D honest. First play of the game for NP will be a Mungia run off a guard for a 1 yard gain, it is every game...
  8. and you guys have lost 2 of the past 3 of those "big conference games between Penn and NP". I kid I kid, looking forward to a good high school football game and hopefully the Cougs come to play and make it a game in Granger tomorrow night.
  9. I think Riley has some nice weapons this year and some for the future (I feel like we say that on repeat for SB schools). What I came most impressed with the wildcats was just not giving up despite facing a routinely ranked 4A team and being down 27-7 after 1 quarter. I thought their coaches had a nice game plan coming in and they executed it pretty nicely. If there is one SB school at least punching within their weightclass it's Riley. With that being said I think a lot of bounces went Riley's way to keep the game closer than what it actually was. The 2nd play of the game, the pass hit the ground but the official called it a catch at the 2 yard line to set up their first score. Their 2nd touchdown was a 50/50 ball that both receiver and defender had possession of in the end zone; to which they ruled a touchdown for Riley (probably the right call, but could of easily gone NPs way). They had a high snap on a punt that would of resulted in a NP score but there was a time out called the second of the snap. On a NP kickoff the Riley return man muffed the kick and the ball BARELY trickled into the end zone which nearly led to either a safety or Riley starting at their 1 yard line. and NP ended the game running out the clock inside the 5.
  10. Yeah I assumed you were run heavy but it seemed like you guys threw the ball a bit more than the average high school team the last 4+ years. Maybe I'm wrong but that's what it looked like from an outsider looking in. Other than a running back named Williams I believe, I haven't heard much about any individual on the team so I figured you are just a well balanced attack on both offense and defense.
  11. I think Penn is 2-3 touchdowns better than NP if both teams play their best. NP has scored majority of their points in bunches this season (which I don't think Penn will allow them to do) so the Cougs are going to have to play 4 solid quarters to have a chance in this one. Honestly haven't heard much about Penn this season or any individual players (seems like Mishawaka, Northwood, and a little bit of Elkhart are gobbling up local attention) Are you guys run heavy? stout defense? or just a well-balanced team this season?
  12. Benet Academy (Ill.) at St. Joseph - no idea Jimtown at Adams - Jimtown - This will be an interesting game to see how the top of the NS stacks up against the bottom of the EW division. Glenn at Clay - Glenn - Not much to say here Marian at Elkhart - Elkhart - There might be more elkhart eyes looking to see what happens in Granger than at Rice field. New Prairie at Penn - Head says Penn heart says NP. I think if NP puts together 4 quarter of quality football they have a chance if a few things bounce their way. NP has taken down Penn twice now in New Carlisle but it's always more difficult to beat the kinsmen on their home turf. Riley at Bremen - Riley - Riley played tough after being down 27-7 last week. I think they take care of business this Friday. Washington at Bowman - don't know anything about this matchup.
  13. This. I'm honestly surprised more people haven't been talking about how exceptionally weak 5A is this year. It has 1 undefeated team in Mishawaka who has played a pretty weak schedule thus far (big test for them tomorrow though). Only has 1 team rated in the top 25 in sagarin, Compared to 14 teams in 6A, 5 teams in 4A, 3 teams in 3A, 1 in 2A, and 1 in 1A. Hell, if you go off sagarin, only a 2A state title would be easier to win.
  14. Absolutely. But Mishawaka has already been featured twice and Northwood once. It's unfortunate for channel 46 that essentially 3 area conference championships are being decided in the next 2 weeks: Week 7: NLC Northwood vs. Mishawaka Week 8: NIC Penn vs New Prairie HNAC: LaVille vs North judson Freeby and crew are probably frustrated that Warsaw ended up being the "paper tigers" this season as some early season beat downs of some underachieving teams made everyone think Warsaw was a top 10 6A team. But so be it; it's nearly impossible to know what games will be the big ones for the areas 4 main conferences. Besides Channel 46 does a HELL of a job for an area high school broadcast; top notch operation.
  15. Nothing really to talk about this week. A lot of games that are either going to be blowouts or really just don't matter. Angola at Marian - Angola Bremen at Prairie Heights - Bremen Calumet at Clay - calumet Jimtown at Washington - jimtown - Is Washington improving, or did they just benefit from a few a games vs some fellow SB competition? Glenn at LaVille - Laville - Lancers at 6-0 are getting absolutely no love this season and are quietly building a solid 2A program. New Prairie at Riley - NP - Channel 46 game of the week just to throw the cougars a bone. Should be a blowout. Penn at St. Joseph - Penn - not much to say here. Adams at Elkhart - Elkhart - not much to say here.
  16. Bremen at Glenn - Glenn - Most interesting game of the week (I feel like every game for Glenn and Bremen has been an interest game this season). But I think the Falcons will find a way to win this one. Elkhart at St. Joseph - Elkhart - St. Joe had 22 yards rushing against NP last week....Elkhart big. Marian at Penn - Penn rolls. Adams at New Prairie - NP - Biggest question for NP is can they take care of business as big matchup against Penn and Elkhart getting closer. Clay at Jimtown - jimtown Riley at Washington - Riley - Wildcats seem to be only SB school on the verge of figuring it out.
  17. So any news to talk about last night? NP had more penalties yardage against them in 2nd quarter than most teams have in an entire season. There's Gotta be something to talk about with Penn/Elkhart. Seemed like to good of a game to go silent after. Clay I knew you were bad. But to be completely humiliated by one of the worse teams in the state....
  18. Indianapolis Washington at Riley - Riley - Washington results look exceptionally weak. Jimtown at Bremen - Jimtown - Do the lions have some magic left in the tank to pull this one out? my head says no. Knox at Glenn - Knox - battle between two historically subpar programs with headliner head coaches. Should be a fun one to keep an eye on. Marian at Adams - Marian - Still don't think Adams is there yet. Although I think this game is closer than I originally thought going into the season. Penn at Elkhart - Penn - Game of the week. Schedule wise, Elkhart has had it pretty easy and Penn has had it pretty tough. I think that's the difference in this one. St. Joseph at New Prairie - NP - The cougars are going to have a disappointing game at some point this season (hopefully it doesn't come during sectionals). The cougars should roll in this one though, especially if STJ's DB is out for this game. Washington at Clay - Washington - I can't imagine Washington winning a football game. Although it's harder for me to imagine Clay winning a football game.
  19. Elkhart at Washington - Well not much to talk about as suspected Jimtown at Glenn - Jimtown still showing they are kings over their old NSC foes. Anyone have any details on this one? New Prairie at Marian - NP continues it's pattern of playing uninspired for 50% of a game then the other 50% they look like they will be playing in Indy. NPs biggest playmaker/game changer is on the defensive side of the ball which I don't think at ever happened in New Carlisle. Penn at Cincinnati St. Xavier - haven't hear anything about this one. someone please give us something Adams at St. Joseph - Adams 1 yard and 1 second away from tying it or winning this one; crazy finish. Any news on the St Joe DB that went down late? I noticed Adams picked the Indians apart down the middle with him out the last drive. Clay at Riley - come on clay Triton at Bremen - Didn't see this one coming. Still don't know what to make of Bremen. How in the world did they beat Marian?
  20. Elkhart at Washington - Elkhart - Pretty much a waste of time. Jimtown at Glenn - Glenn - Going to go with the hot hand here. Will probably be a close game regardless of who comes out on top. I'll be real interested to see the final score of this one. New Prairie at Marian - NP - should be a 3+ score victory for the cougars as they end their 3 games away from Amzie Miller Field. Penn at Cincinnati St. Xavier - St. Xavier - Don't know anything about X, but while Penn is improved they still showed they are a tier down from "elite". Adams at St. Joseph - no idea - evidence points to a low scoring affair regardless of who wins this one. A loss here would really take the sails out of any St. Joe "hype" Clay at Riley - Riley - Will clay show any signs of life against a SB brethren? Triton at Bremen - Bremen - One of the more intriguing games this week. Does Bremen handle their formal conference foe? Or does Triton have what it takes and flexes it's HNAC muscles at the streaky Lions?
  21. NP beats Lowell 24-7 at the inferno. NP jumped out to a 17-0 lead after 1 quarter (could of easily been 21-0) and played even from there.
  22. That's unfortunate for the school. Bremen is a GREAT community based school with a lot of history to feed off of, I've always been envious how the high school is in the middle of town. Makes for a great atmosphere on Friday nights. The dissolving of the NSC set Bremen back a few steps; that conference was perfect for the Lions in a lot of ways (size, geography, competitiveness). Being in the NIC is tough in football (although that has changed a little with the division realignments) and EXTREMELY tough for a school like Bremen in basketball, volleyball, track, etc. You guys are kind of stuck with your conference affiliation for right now as the HNAC seems pretty happy and would be a horrible drive most of the time and the NLC would be an EXTREME long shot at this point as there are other schools that seem to be better fits if something were to open up.
